I remember sometime in November I had 3 4tb Crucial MX500s in my cart for something like 160-180 apiece to swear off disk drives. I got up to go grab some water and my wallet, sat back down to my cart getting updated to "new" prices of over 200. Now they're $260 and I'm still hitting myself...
The launch event images of the 5700xt anniversary edition had "RX 690" on the card. These were designed, even up until they were making early promotional materials, to be spiritual successors to Polaris. I remember laughing quite hard when they announced 379, 449, and 499 launch prices for...
2070 super at about $500 was really close to 1080ti performance. 1070 wasn't too far off from a 980ti either. 3070 matching a 2080ti doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. If anything, it just shows how terrible a value the 2080ti was.
You're probably right. I think the original idea of Big Navi was essentially just more Navi CUs with the possibility of HBM. Also for it to not take very long to put out to market. RDNA2 is actual new tech. I still make the mistake of saying big navi instead of rdna2.
I haven't been following leaks like I was back before vega & navi came out. It just isn't fun for me anymore.
I'm sure AMD will have some price-competitive offerings to much of Nvidia's stack. I just don't know if AMD will have a statement product to match the 3080. Quite frankly, that would...
From what we've seen so far, 3080 should seriously spank your 1080ti, along with every other card currently available. Getting access to RTX and NVENC should be some nice icing on top of that.
Normally I'd say wait for benchmarks, but that DF video left me believing much of the Ampere hype. Sadly, Big Navi is still a mystery. AMD still seems pretty hyped about their upcoming products, but I've lived through Bulldozer hype, Polaris hype, Vega hype, and Navi hype. Ryzen was probably...
Big Navi is going to have to be pretty damn big to outdo Nvidia's claims for 3080 performance, which is double the performance of a 2080. It will also need to deal with nvidia's price point of $699.
And it's great because analyzing BSOD dumps when your memory is causing game crashes will throw up error flags in gpu drivers and d3d. Naturally, one is lead to assume something is wrong with gpu hardware/software.
Wait for reviews and spend what will make you happy based on your own budget. So much of what we assumed about Turing and Navi launches turned out to be wrong.
Seasonic is one of Corsair's OEMs, so there's a possibility you went from one seasonic to another. They are one of the earliest brands I remember seeing switch to a 12cm fan with an underslung intake while everyone else was still using a loud 8cm fan on the back panel.
There's always the...
Look at people buying a 3800xt over a 3900x, even though you can get a 3900x cheaper in some cases. Sometimes it's just a lack of knowledge, other times it might be some weird enthusiasm for one particular part. I understand getting the lower end part due to power constraints (either psu or...
The PC I built in 2013 had 16gb of ddr3. I felt really weird at the idea of building a pc 7 years later with the same amount of memory, so I went with 32. I like to multitask a lot, and I have topped out on memory with 16gb on the last system.
I remember when AMD was bragging about how amazingly efficient polaris was, and then only a year later rebadging overvolted/overclocked variants as new cards.
I used to run a program called OCCT that had a setting to stress test the PSU by stressing the cpu+gpu. I haven't used it in a long time since they added some weird timers for free users and I wasn't sure what other trickeries they may have come up with.
I had the USB-SATA board on my 2TB Elements drive go bad. I took the drive out of the enclosure and tested it directly on mobo connectors and the drive itself was fine. I had a rosewill enclosure with a fan lying around that I stuck the drive in, only to find out how terribly built the...
I generally use water + a nice microfiber towel. If it's just spot cleaning, I might use some TP instead. I have never used cleaning solutions for fear of ruining any anti-glare coating.
Welcome to why so many people were disappointed with Turing. It felt like a sidegrade, where you essentially get equivalent price/performance to Pascal while gaining RTX support and the NVENC encoder. To get a compelling upgrade over a pascal part, you had to spend significantly more money...
Sadly, like a previous poster mentioned, it's going to be difficult to figure out if it's the mobo or CPU without having a spare cpu or mobo to swap around. You've already ruled out bent/missing pins and BIOS version concerns, and those are the usual culprits. I assume you've already reset the...
I know what you mean about early Nvidia cards having really bad image quality. I personally had an Nvidia Riva 128 (predecessor to the TNT lineup) to go along with my 3dfx Voodoo 2. I couldn't believe my eyes at how different things looked when I eventually went to a new card 3 or 4 years...
I paid 287+tax USD for this panel in January and it's currently available for 320 at B&H. It wouldn't surprise me if stock is low everywhere with the global pandemic affecting production of all sorts of goods. I got lucky in that my panel had 0 pixel issues and fairly low backlight bleed. The...
Audio over both HDMI and Displayport is heavily distorted (tons of clipping and popping) if the card is in its idle state. If you are running a game or load up a benchmark in the background, the audio becomes perfect. Many people on different forums have reported the issue and it still hasn't...
I've been using the spread method on every pc I've built ever since the late 90s. I'm the kind of person where if I put down a peasized dot, I have to pull it up to check, and then I've already failed. I've used plastic gift cards and I've used gloved fingers and I don't think it matters which.
The entire card release was a clustertruck. Unless you're specifically buying one of the cards where they changed the name for the newer bios release, like the gaming Z, you might not know what you're getting and what specs the hardware was verified for.
I've sold items that are still relevant for people wanting some budget gear, like maybe 2-3 generation old gpus. Anything that old, I've generally donated/recycled. Ebay can be annoying but they do have some free listings promotion so you can measure interest.
While I would love to jump in on that 240hz 1440p panel, I have to take a pause to think about what kind of warranty services are available from this small company.
Here's another video for how haswell/devilscanyon compare to current gen offerings:
While you may have the 4770k and not the 4790k, it's essentially the same architecture with slightly different clock speeds, so the results should be quite similar.
Radeon 5700 non-XTs occasionally dip down to $300. I have a 970 as well and just put in my order last week at $300. It was backordered, but I should be seeing it fairly soon.
I just jumped in on a sale on the 5700 DD ultra and I assumed that they had a driver/firmware fix for these fan problems after 4-5 months. Is there seriously no resolution yet?
