Maybe it's a sale price but not by much. RE2's are better all around performers and are not that much more money. Maybe like $10 or $15?

Yes this drive is in a middle spot because the RE2 looks to be more solid and also the KD drive is only SATA1, I'd recommend spending a few bucks more to get SATA2 if you plan to stripe these. I have the KS model (SATA2) and they roar in Raid0.

The RE2 is only a better deal if you plan on using it in raid, hence RE2 (Raid Edition).

If you aren't using raid, then the TLER is not advantageous to desktop use.

You can read the review on storagereview.com about the differences between the YR and KD (RE2 and SE16), and find out that they are the same drive. Same features, with the exception of the TLER on the RE2.

SATA 1 is also more than fast enough for desktop use as most desktop users can't saturate a SATA 1 bus anyway.

This is an awesome hard drive and a good deal.
