^^ dido, no ghosting at all here for me, playing most CS:S and DoD 1680x 1050 - all details max no aa or AF - 75mhz refresh and vsync on.

should'nt it be 60mhz refresh?

sdat1333

first, refresh rate is in hz, not mhz

second, did anybody ever find out for sure if this is an 8 bit or 6 bit panel? Im guessing 6, but 8 would be a nice bonus.

I think today is the day to pull the trigger on this one (at least for me..)

buy.com price $354.95 - $15 coupon - $30 to sign up with their credit card, + free shipping, no tax, final price of $309.95. Not bad for this monitor!

But I am a bit worried about my video card and DVI problems (BFG 7800gt).

As for this being a 6bit or 8bit panel, everything I found says 8 bit.

Uh oh, hope mine doesn't have the DVI problem with my 7900gt.

Uh, no it can't, the hardware and panel is locked at 60hertz in DVI mode. 75hertz is for VGA mode.

Yes I can confirm it is able to do 74Hz and it is an 8-bit panel.

And though, animasaki, reports that his never worked with DVI. There is a DVI Recovery (http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/bb/sutra869611.html) utility that is able to help fix the powersaving issue that crops up with some Nvidia cards/drivers. :)

And about that refresh rate question... Windows forces all LCDs to 60 Hz regardless of their capabilities. You can disable it but there is a chance that it will damage your display if you set it too high, and face it some of you will. :p My advice is: if the game will play at over 60fps and you don't like the tearing, turn on more of the features, or enable Vsync. However, for the record, this monitor reports to the drivers that it is capable of 75 Hz at the native resolution of 1680x1050. So will it Really do 75 Hz? I don't frickin care!

sorry for the outburst! http://img52.exs.cx/img52/271/l9iblush.gif

Actually, it DID work for the first couple of weeks. In fact, it worked great, right out of the box, with no drivers needed. My problem is that the DVI port on the monitor actually ended up breaking when I uninstalled some tweaked nVidia drivers (which I'll never be using again): the ForceWare Ultras found on Guru3d.

I think my case, where the DVI port is completely broken for some inexplicable reason, is extremely isolated. I'm RMAing it now, and I don't expect it to happen in the future. I'm the only one who has never been able to fix his DVI port, and neither of the ViewSonic techs even had any idea how it might have happened.

The current dilemma is whether ViewSonic has a good RMA system or not. We'll see...

is the height adjustment really a problem? how high is it from the desk to the bottom of the monitor?

It's not an issue for me...

It's about 4" to the bottom of the bezel and about 5 3/4" to the bottom of the screen.

Well I took the plunge! Just ordered from newegg. Was going to do buy.com, but didnt feel like having another credit card just to save $30, and buy.com uses fedex ground for their free shipping, and the fedex ground driver here is an idiot! he mis-delivers my packages, and doesnt treat them well. UPS driver is a friend of mine, so for $13 more, 2 day delivery opposed to 7-10, and good handling, I think its worth it.

Another reason I chose newegg was actually the dead pixel policy. Newegg states "7 or more" to be defective, and even VS's policy is 10 or more, so it seemed like a no-brainer. Cant wait for this sucker to arrive! :D

Don't really know about Office Depot and Office Max, but Office Depot has it for $399 always and Office Max has a sale for $369. I almost got it, but still debating on the widescreen issue. I'm also looking at the new Samsung 215TW for $550.

Got my VX2025wm today and all I can say is WOW! It's big..
Ordered from Newegg last week.
No dead pixels, bright screen, Text looks awsome.
Even UPS couldn't destroy it :p the box looked like someone got mad and tried to stab it.
I thought for sure the lcd was dead.

Viewsonic is sounding like better deal, now they are adopting zero dead pixel policy. First for their business line and other lines soon after.

You're saying you are doing 1680x1050 at 75mhz through DVI port on this monitor?

I3eyond
05-30-2006, 08:41 PM
I3eyond, I would be dishonest if I said that there was no ghosting. However, I've had great quality CRTs up until this monitor, and honestly, I can't find more than a hint of it. There are plenty of things to think about before buying this monitor (such as the DVI port breaking with nVidia cards), but ghosting, thankfully, isn't one of them.

so you think i should get this monitor over the vx922?

and how frequent of an occurence is this dvi issue?

I3eyond,

Yep, I recommend it. Since there's no real ghosting to speak of, going to a smaller monitor simply for a lower refresh rate probably wouldn't make much sense. VX2025wm indeed.

As far as the frequency of the DVI issue, here's some more info:

- My DVI breaking issue, to my knowledge, was due to a mixed tweaked videocard driver uninstallation. Mine is the only case of such, and it seems to be permanent (hence my pending RMA.)

- The more common DVI issue that people seem to be having doesn't seem to occur too much, and even when it does occur, if you have the (easily found and made) DVI Recovery disk, you can pop that thing in, wait a few minutes, and you're back in business.

I wouldn't let either deter you. Just be careful if you ever want to try tweaked videocard drivers. This isn't the first time custom drivers have screwed up my comp. If you, say, used official drivers, or very reputable custom ones (say, Omegas for ATI cards), you won't run into my problem. :)

MrGuvernment
05-31-2006, 12:45 AM
I haev my 2025 hooked upto my laptop that had Omega Radeon 6.3' installed - no probs :)

i think this is mainly an nvidia issue.....

animasaki
05-31-2006, 12:50 AM
Now, just because you personally haven't had the issue doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. I've seen plenty of varied ATI cards have the problem, as well. Keep in mind that the majority of VX2025wm owners don't have this problem in the first place, and I with my GeForce 6800 had no problems at all, and only destroyed my port due to faulty driver uninstallation.

It's just something that happens. I'm glad you two haven't had any problems, though ;)

If you are trying to hack the resolution of a game, such as BF2 you would edit the shortcut.

Here you make it 1280 by 1024 by hacking the shortcuts target. You would add a few things after it.

"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

My monitor will be here tomorrow at this time. Quite excited! Assuming its not DOA for any reason, my initial thoughts are that this LCD is going to blow away my VP171b (ver. 1) LCD in so many ways. Going from 17" to 20.1" WS, going from 6bit to 8bit panel, etc.

A few questions I have. Last night I went into my Nvidia properties, and told it to show modes that the monitor CANT handle. I was specifically looking for the 1680x1050 mode, and its not there. I'm using 84.21 nvidia drivers. Shouldnt that resolution be listed? The upper most resolution listed was 2560x1600, huge! But no 1680x1050. This is a BFG 7800GT card. Being that this card is only a 256MB card, I'm guessing I should probably look at something better in order to have all the frills turned on in games at 1680x1050?

The next question I have is what to do with my old VP171b? Its got 2-3 stuck pixels. I know most are going to say use both right? And I was thinking of doing that, allocating the 17" to tv viewing through SageTV. I looked around the net, and cant seem to find any of these for sale (used) so is it safe to assume there really is no re-sale value on my old one? If I keep it, and want to go to SLI again in the future, is there any issue doing that (SLI and 2 monitors, not cloning each other)? I never tried it, so not sure if there are pitfalls or not.

Well that about covers it! Just waiting til tomorrow now! :D :D

As soon as you hook up the monitor and windows is does its found new hardware thing the correct resolution should show up. If not just install the drivers that come witht the monitor and all should be good.

That card is plenty good enough for this monitor.

So I submitted a ticket to ATI re: the scaling not working with the CCC. The last response I received from ATI was:

Unfortunately, with this monitor, there are no options to turn off its internal scaling. It is on all the time and there's no way to turn it off. Only when you can disable the displays internal scaling with the centered timings option work.

Looking back in this thread, to the guy that posted pictures of his VX2025WM running on a 7800 with 1024x768 centered and scaled resolutions makes me think otherwise. gg ATI support.

Then the smart thing to do is to point ATI to the pictures in question and prove them wrong. Maybe they'll then fix their drivers :)

It works fine with widescreen resolutions, but not 4:3, which is what I'm interested in.

At any rate, the new response from ATI:

our driver does work fine. We have tested this on both the x1900 and x1300. If your monitor display forces a "scale" there is nothing we can do about it at this time.

You can wait for our new driver that may fix the issue.

The assumption I've seen from NV users is that the display scaling algorithm that they use in forceware must be sending a full resolution signal to the display, (1680x1050) and then using its own generated black bars to fill the area around the centered image. I don't know if that's possible, but it sounds like it might be.

Correct. When I output in, say, 1280x1024 without stretching, my mouse can move even into the black areas.

Really not much to it. Either the game supports widescreen resolutions out of the box, or it doesn't. Some games are hackable using .ini's shortcuts ect..ect.. to FORCE the game to run in widescreen ratio but not all of them allow this. Many don't properaly display the aspect ratio correctly when forcing widescreen rez, hence you don't get the correct field of view though some games allow you tweak this as well, but not many

The PC itself couldn't care less what resolution its putting out.

Just had a spin on HL 2 in widescreen on max deatils, looked stunning. I didn't notice any ghosting.
Yes there is backlight bleed but the only way I noticed it is when I created an all black image in paint, you certainly cannot notice it when browsing or when I played HL2. It's weird because when you move your head so you are looking straight at the affected areas it seems to go away.

Just thought I should share this review with you guys.
http://www.behardware.com/articles/619-2/survey-eight-20-lcd-20-5-6-8-16-ms.html

I squares of the NEC, Viewsonic, Acer and others (all 20" LCDS).

Many quoted that the Acer is exactly the same as the Viewsonic, but they show that it is less favorable.

Just thought it would be interesting.

Also, I suggest you get the Viewsonic soon since buy.com and ZZF has just raised their prices on this monitor.
However, the egg has $5 instant rebate and it can be had for $340 shipped.

Thas the thing, many people say it isnt "back light bleed" like dell, cause if you move your head left to right, it changes, the panel, it does not stay stationary

and to get a blakc background just go into your wallpaper setting and choose none and set the back colo as black :D

Alright I finally bit on this monitor. After doing a lot of research (about 1 month), I came to the conclusion that this monitor is the best next to the NEC (which I aint shelling out $600 for). Also, since e-tailers are slightly raising prices I figured $338 shipped is a pretty good price from the egg. Hope I will be happy with it. Should be a nice upgrade from my other computer which has a 17" Sony XBrite LCD...Wonder if I will like this screen or the glossy one better.

Just had a good session on HL2 and never noticed any ghosting. Did notice the "bleeding" once on a dark scene but like it has been said it seems to go when you change your angle of vision, it's more like a glare than anything.

Of course ;)

As for DVI, I powered down my computer, unplugged power and dvi, hooked new monitor up, connected new dvi cable (just to be sure) and power cables to both monitor and pc. turned on monitor, then turned on PC. booted up fine, switched to 1680x1050 resolution without issue. I just got my vx2025 the other day. This is my first lcd and I really like everything about it except for one thing. I get pretty bad motion blurring in mostly all my games. Playing any game that requires fast mouse movement or bunnyhopping is really bad on my eyes especially bunnyhopping, my whole screen is pratically blurred the entire time =(. I'm currently using the dvi cord that came with the monitor. Would buying a dvi-d cord help any with the moion blurring? If not what else could help because after reading all the reviews on this monitor i'm kinda disappointed because I couldn't find anybody mentioning bad motion blurring.

Your either

A: More sensative to blurring then other people

B: Your monitor is still cold, it gets better after it warms up.

Either way, a new DVI cable will do nothing to decrease ghosting. Exactly what game is causing all the fuss?

Great. I was so comfortable with buying this monitor this week, but now that you've said this about the exact game I play mainly, I'm hesitant now.

If it ghosts too much for me, will newegg exchange it for a VX922?

I3eyond, the only thing I can imagine is that Musty got a bad one. I play CS: Source a lot, along with Guild Wars, Dawn of War, FEAR, Call of Duty 2, etc. I kid you not, there is almost zero noticable ghosting, and even then, you won't find it unless you're specifically looking for it. Ghosting is not one of the VX2025's issues.

Musty, get that thing RMA'd!

ghosting isn't a problem on mine, it's the motion blurring. I can't notice a thing when standing still or moving forward but as soon as i do a fast mouse movement my screen is completely blurred. Is there a program that I can test the response time and compare it with others?

:) Well I took the plunge!

Hi

Thanks to those who have started and contributed to this thread. I am in Australia and stumbled across this thread whilst researching on a LCD monitor to upgrade to from my existing 21" CRT monitor. I am currently considering the Viewsonic VX2025WM, VX922 and the Dell 2007.

I keep reading you guys refering to different stores offering different dead pixel policy etc on this monitor. Doesn't Viewsonic offer zero dead pixel warranty for their LCD monitors in the states? In Australia, this monitor comes with 30 days zero dead pixel warranty whilst the VX922 comes with a more generous 90 days zero dead pixel warranty as do the rest of the VP series. See URL below:

http://www.viewsonic.com.au/kbase/article.php?id=5

I have a couple of questions I am hoping the Viewsonic VX2025WM owners can answer:
1) I have a 128MB Radeon 9800 XT (soft modded from 9800 Pro) using Omega drivers. Has any 9800 XT owner been succesful in "scaling" the video output to non-native resolutions?
2) Does this monitor come with DVI Cable? What sort of DVI cable is required for use on the Radeon 9800 XT card?

Thanks.

here in the USA, their webpage has this for dead pixel policy:

Q & A: LCD

LCD Pixel Criteria

ViewSonic is committed to customer satisfaction by providing the highest quality products in the industry. The result is that our LCD displays generally have very few non-performing pixels. For example, an 18" SXGA (1280 x 1024) display has nearly 4 million sub-pixels. A product exhibiting 7 non-performing pixels would equate to an extremely small 0.00018 percent of the total sub-pixels.

(1280 Horizontal Pixels) * (1024 Vertical Pixels) * (3 sub-pixels per pixel) = 3,932,160 sub-pixels

[(7 non-performing pixels) / (3,932,160 sub-pixels)] * 100% = 0.00018%

To ensure the highest performing displays, ViewSonic sets limits as to the allowable number of pixel anomalies. ViewSonic has adopted the following pixel criteria to supplement our existing three-year limited warranty. This policy applies to all ViewSonic LCD displays during the warranty period.

ViewSonic sets limits on 14" - 15" LCD's at 4 bright sub-pixels, 4 dark sub-pixels, or a combination of 4.
ViewSonic sets limits on 17" - 19" LCD's at 7 bright sub-pixels, 7 dark sub-pixels, or a combination of 7.
ViewSonic sets limits on 20" & greater LCD's at 10 bright sub-pixels, 10 dark sub-pixels, or a combination of 10.

It is possible that any replacement display may also have some non-performing sub-pixels. This should be considered when requesting a warranty exchange.

If its different, i.e. 0, here in the USA and their page is wrong, someone please let me know so I can trade this in for a 0 dead pixel monitor.

With a 7900gt, it upscales all non-native resolution. Right now if you select aspect ratio or any other setting in the driver, you get an "signal out of range" message.

I don't know if that's possible, but it sounds like it might be.
so wait, does this mean that on the X1900 series I can display games at 4:3 resolution w/o stretching? if so, i am getting this baby.

it didnt stretch for me using my x700 PRO - playing CS:S 1280 x 768 - it centered it perfectly.

You should be playing at 1280x800, just so you know. 1280x768 is 5:3.

But the issue is with 4:3 content (e.g. 1024x768) not displaying with black bars on the sides, but stretching to fill the screen instead.

Widescreen games will be scaled to fill the screen if you run at a lower resolution, but they won't be stretched.

I just bought the monitor today and installed the tweaked Xtreme-G firmware from tweaksrus in hope that it will fix the scaling issue, unfortunately the result was a no go (also tried nvidia's latest forceware driver, got same result, running on 7900GT). Bought this monitor shortly after reading the review here (I think a month or so ago).

Anyways, since that day I have been trying to get the centered timings and any other setting other then "monitor scaling" to work without having the out of range message appearing.
I have tried adding custom timings, and setting them to the desired flat panel setting. although the control panel would now be set to which ever mode I selected, for instance centered, any game run at lower resolutions would still be stretched!

Just yesterday, I saw some post asking which dvi port was connected and that may have something to do with it.... I initially was skeptical and wondered with a card that can run dual dvi's why would one matter over another???

Well I switched dvi ports on my 7800gt and rebooted my computer and low and behold, I can now select centered, or any other mode and not recieve the out of range message, and most importantly works with desktop resolutions, in game etc etc!!!

Nice find Sensile. That might help alot of people out.

I have no probs with using the drivers to set scaling on my 6600GT, but I won't have this card forever. I'm just waiting on a few pieces of hardware to come out before I order parts for a high-end SFF gaming/htpc rig. I'll have to test out which port when I get my new card running.

I am aware that which DVI port is plugged in matters for some things though. I have my lcd tv hooked up to one, and the first time I did this my pc was off. I rebooted I got a black screen on my desktop monitor and I thought I screwed something up until I turned on the tv and switched to digital input. The TV was the primary display and the desktop monitor was recieving no output until I set it as primary in the software or enabled clone or dual-view. lol. :p Every time I update my vid drivers this happens too.

Off-topic but this new purchase today works well with my viewsonic...

I found a decent cheap knockoff of the more expensive "mesh seat and back with lumbar support and adjustable headrest" chairs at officemax while I was there for $129.98. It has a 1yr warranty which you can extend to 3yr for another $20 if you want. The back also reclines and locks at whatever angle you want.

I just returned my Viewsonic LCD. I had it hooked up to my PowerMac in addition to my Apple 20" display. Problem was that the viewsonic has no sleep mode. So when the computer goes to sleep, the Viewsonic monitor just sits there flashing "No Signal" indefinitely. Wasting electricity, and making me have to constantly run back to my computer and turn the screen off. Although usually I'd leave the room and come back hours later to find the monitor sitting there flashing away. Many manufacturers use this panel in 20" displays these days, I suggest using another one.

Hi there,

I spent alot of money on this monitor based on the thread starters review and BIT-TECH's review. It amazes me how much problems this monitor has, to name a few-

-Backlight bleed

-Motion Blur

-No sleep mode?

-DVI input lag and does not work

I spent £240 Shipped for this monitor, which when calculated through HIFX equals $442, please know that hardware is much more expensive in the UK.

My bank account is now so empty I think I may move into it.

Im really worried that I have made a bad decison, Im moving on from a Viewsonic VP171B, which is a great great monitor.

If there are any tips to get the best out the monitor can I please hear it?

Specs in SIG.

Thank you.

Just got mine yesterday....If you waded through the 57 pages of posts here you'd find that there is no Backlight bleed(there is a case of some lighting, but I think thats due to the LCD being slighty curved inward, no Motion Blur(I've played a hell of a load of games and not ghosting at all) and only a few cases of the DVI not working, which can be fixed....(Mine is working just fine.)

When I was reading through all the replies on this thread I was worried about some of the posts. A majority of them was good things which made me buy the LCD.

Glad I brought this beast, its a huge step up from my 17" inch CRT and looks damn fine.

Kudos to Viewsonic.

If some of you would be so kind... could you post your settings for your lcd? I'm not quite sure what would give me optimum color reproduction. All i did was use adobe gamma correction and that's about it but it has my contrast at 100. Doesnt seem right. I then played a dvd that had lots of black and then corrected the brightness so that the black of the letterbox bars on the top and bottom would match the blacks in the movie. Before it was slightly off.. the bars ant the top and bottom were a bit grayish. I dont know if this is a good way of going about it.

So if you could post your settings it would give me a good idea of where i should set my contrast, brightness and color (SRGB, 6300k, 5400k...)

87/94/100 (R/G/B)
45 contrast
70 brightness
0.6 gamma (nVidia control panel)

I just returned my Viewsonic LCD. I had it hooked up to my PowerMac in addition to my Apple 20" display. Problem was that the viewsonic has no sleep mode. So when the computer goes to sleep, the Viewsonic monitor just sits there flashing "No Signal" indefinitely. Wasting electricity, and making me have to constantly run back to my computer and turn the screen off. Although usually I'd leave the room and come back hours later to find the monitor sitting there flashing away. Many manufacturers use this panel in 20" displays these days, I suggest using another one.

This monitor certainly has 'sleep mode', if yours isn't doing so then your display settings are wrong or you got a defective unit.

I have a question about sleep mode on this monitor also. I have two different computers, one connected to the vga and the other to the dvi port. When I shut down one computer, it automatically switches to the other input. Is there any way to stop the monitor from doing this? I would rather just have the monitor standby until I turn my primary pc on again.

Change the settings on your secondary PC so that after a period of mouse/keyboard inactivity it also puts the monitor in suspend/sleep mode.

Some people mentioned that the Acer AL2016W 20" is the same screen as the viewsonic VS2025wm except for the fact that it uses a glossy layer rather than an anti-glare layer. However I've just noticed that the sites I've seen show the viewsonic as 800:1 contrast ratio, and the Acer AL2016W as 600:1 . This could be because the glossy screen is darkening the max brightness down from 800, but I'm curious about this if anyone has any further info.

I was considering the acer AL2016W to replace my viewsonic which I would put on my gf's pc.

for those that are interested i can confirm that the scaling works on my 7600gt, however it IS important as stated a few pages back that you select the correct dvi input. why this makes a difference i do not know but i had the out of range problem with one port but all works fine on the other. if you have a 7600 0r 7900 try changing dvi ports and i think you will find it works perfectly.

the scaling issue was the only problem i had with this monitor and now that its solved i am very happy.

ps. if you want a pixel perfect 4:3 mode that fills the screen vertically just make a custom resolution of 1400x1050, games that run in all desktop modes will have a perfect 4:3 mode.

hehe maths was bad :)

Shouldn't 4:3 be 1400x1050? Anyway, I have a 7900GT. It has 2 dvi port, one marked 1, and the other marked 2. I have been plugging my monitor into port 1, and scaling doesn't work. I haven't tried plugging into 2, as I assumed 1 is the main one. Maybe I will try it later.

Confirmed again. In fact at first I couldn't get the 'Digital Flat Panel' settings item to show up on my existing installation of the drivers (91.31) with my 7900GT. I think it's because I had an analogue monitor hooked up at the time I installed the drivers. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and that seems to have worked as now I have the DFP item in the nvidia control panel.

If I change the scaling settings at ALL I get an 'Out of range' message from the VX2025WM. Doesn't matter which DVI port I use. Glad to see this is working for 7800GT users but my 7900GT wants to be able to do it too! I hope it's just a driver issue...

The monitor is a BEAUTY though... dead sexy and so WIDE. No dead pixels that I can see but I'm going to run dead pixel buddy later to check for sure.

***stupid question alert*****

1. What HD resolutions can this monitor display?
2. I know you can get an HDMI to DVI cable, but could you use a DVI to VGA connector on the end so that I can use the DVI port for gaming and PC use and the VGA port for TV?

What I am trying to do is hook up my HD/DVR box to my monitor without having to sacrifice the DVI port.

LostHere
06-14-2006, 08:52 PM
I am not sure, but I found sRGB's white color is whiter than 6500k, so I am using sRGB instead. Also for the fact that it's easier to adjust color using only the video card's control panel, instead of doing a 2 way adjust with both the monitor and the video card.

I think I remember somewhere saying sRGB is the webpage standard or something... but that might not the be same sRGB here.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I really don't have time to browse through all the pages of this thread, so here goes.

I noticed that this LCD's specification states DVI-D. Now that "D" at the end stands for Dual Link, correct? I have also learned that this LCD comes with a DVI cable. By any chance this included DVI cable is a "DVI-D" type? Also, what am I missing out should I not go for the DVI-D and just use a regular DVI cable.

I know that a dell 3007wfp REQUIRES a Dual Link DVI cable and a Dual Link capable video card to even unlocks its maximum potential resolution. That is the reason why I'm concerned about this LCD and the DVI-D specification.

I JUST got off the phone ordering this thing and is quite ecstatic, so thanks for all the response. :)

The D doesn't stand for 'Dual Link' and as far as I know the VX2025WM doesn't need a dual-link card to obtain it's full native resolution. That honor is reserved for the huuuuge LCD panels.

The D means 'Digita'' from what I understand, and means that it's a DVI cable/port capable of carrying digital video only.

DVI-D = Digital DVI
DVI-A = Analogue DVI
DVI-I = Digital / Analogue (can carry both signals)

Woah, you've got both monitors? Can try to post some comparison shots? I've got a 2025, and I'm thinking of switching to a 2007.

I'm particularly interested in the viewing angles, as it seems that the Viewsonic has poorer viewing angles (not to mention a reddish color cast at the extreme ends).

I wanted to post this reply yesterday but the forum was down a long time.

I had trouble with eyestrain on text beneath the frost anti-glare layer of the screen. Using default windows xp fonts and font sizes with cleartype turned on helped. I also used cleartype tuner. It still bothered my eyes. When I installed this same monitor at my mother's house I found that her screen was much easier to read. I at first attributed this soley to her room lighting vs the dark area my computer is in. I now realize that the default display parameters of our two very different video cards were much of the reason. I have a nvidia 6600 GT.

A few days ago I went into the nvidia driver panel to bump the vibrance up a notch, and came across the Image Sharpening slider bar. I hadn't really noticed it before. I bumped the sharpness up a bit and the text looked MUCH BETTER. It still blurry on some really tiny text that show up on a few menus, such as the main nView display settings menu where below it says "Make this the primary display" with a checkbox. The text there is very tiny and still looks "smudged". However all the other text at more common font sizes has improved greatly. My eyes can focus on nice sharp font edges now. I can't get over how much better it looks.

If I zero the ImageSharpening all text looks very blurry. Sliding too far to the right over sharpens. I moved it up until it was over sharp then backed it down until it was 'just right'.

Here is a screenshot of the Color Corection panel from the nvidia driver settings:

http://www.3dalchemist.com/images/nvidia6600_colorpanel.jpg

My monitor itself was set to Contrast 62 and Brightness 36 before I adjusted the driver panel to Contrast 91% , Brightness 100% , Gamma 0.88 . I could probably adjust the monitor control's contrast so the driver panel's wouldn't need to be below 100% but thats how I have it for now.

I'm really glad I stumbled on that setting. Before this I was considering returning it. Now I think this monitor is very good.

Great job!! I love the way it looks now, except I didn't like the sharpening thing-a-ma-bob.

Not sure if the S-IPS panel makes a heck of a difference over the MVA panel.

Nah at work were a dell reseller, so we took one of the free 20inchs that came with the puters and didn't give to client.

I only played with it shortly. The dell is a nice monitor, but not as sharp as this one. If i was to look closely at the start menu on the old one i could see the shapes used to make the image.

Its hella alot cleaner and brigther. I dunno bout viewing angles, i only look at my monitors from teh front.....

This monitor was 270 bucks after rebates, compared to the 400inch Dell 20inch. Much b etter bang for buck.

Anyway, i hooked monitor up, played a few rounds of CS, insane, watches some mpegs and jsut as good.

Ill post back later.

Now that I've gotten some exposure to this LCD, I can see what people mean about the "screen door effect".

It can be spotted when you look up REAL close to the LCD. Particularly on images that goes back and forth a couple pixels. I was playing WoW and my gnome was bobbing back and forth, I can immediately see the effect then. However, at 1 foot away, it is BARELY noticable to my eyes. I usually sit a good 3-4 feet away so it doesn't bother me. :) I'm at work right now, so I haven't had a chance to play w/ the scaling yet. (I didn't think about it before I read more of this thread)

About the desk mount, are there any _other_ deskmounts of good quality for cheaper than the NeoFlex? I was looking at the buy.com for 68ish dollars and felt like it's slightly overpriced. I like the 2 flex though, so nice.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this LCD is ABSOLUTELY crisp. I upgraded from the x2gen 17" LCD with VGA. Even the very texts on this forum is CRISP. And for the first time, I actually have to "turn" my head to see the "other side" of the screen.(when I'm up close to it at least) hahaha

Probably a combination of my camera (Canon A60) and the fact that the light was on in the room and slightly reflecting off the screen's finish. Next time I'll remember to turn the light off.

The game looks absolutely gorgeous on this monitor, I have no complaints.

wow. long thread :)

i just picked this monitor up yesterday (moving up from 19" WS), and initially the "screen door" effect really bothered me. switched from analog to DVI and the problem seems to be gone.

picked it up at office depot, $399 less $30 coupon code less $50 MIR.

I also have the same "distortion" akin to backlight bleeding, and as mentioned it only appears in low light with a black screen, and changes with viewing angle. can live with it i think, except that the bottom left has a "purplish" hue to it.. may need to swap it.

running an x1800xt, and i miss the the calibration tool found in nv drivers. is there anything similar to his to help calibrate the color?

text is definately very sharp, but the white seems a little "off" compared to my old lcd. while it lacks some features (only tilt adj and only anlog & dvi input) it's still a very nice monitor, but i'm not sure i am completely satisfied with it just yet... was originally going to get the gateway 21", but this was a very good "bang for the buck" being over $250 cheaper after MIR.

I'm down to either buying this or the Dell 2007. I also have a 7800 GS on the way and it lists the maximum resolution as 1600x1200 in DVI. Is there anyway I could run this in a native res still or at least make it look good in a lesser resolution?

No. While some LCD's do a better job than others at running non-native resolutions, I haven't seen one that can run them as well as their native res. Especially under DVI-A or DVI-D.

Well, I've tried the Samsung 215tw, Samsung 204B and now the Viewsonic widescreen.

The 215TW was beautiful, not hardly any blacklight issues, great color, but it had a light area (that didn't show up as backlight bleed) on about the left 1/4 of the screen. After I noticed it it sorta was annoying.

The 204B just had to much backlight bleeding and the screen was not uniform in brightness.

The Viewsonic has pretty bad blacklight bleed and a dark area on the left side middle of the screen. It's going back also,

I may just go back to my Dell 21" CRT.

I may have to go back to the 215TW and see if I can get one without the light area.

We'll see.

Dude, sorry to say NO LCD is going to be perfect given the current technology of LCD's, there will always been a drawback no matter what company of LCD maker you buy.

If you want absolute perfection then stick with CRT's.

RedLegos, I wouldn't worry about it. I have a mere 6800 GS, and I ran 1680x1050 just fine in both DVI and VGA. I'm completely sure, unless your card has an unforeseen flaw, that you will have no problem running it at that resolution as well. ;)

Is the LCD staying in sleep mode when connected via DVI? (power LED turns yellow)

It could be that the EDID information in the monitor has been corrupted which has happened in some cases with some LCDs and some nVidia cards. You can either RMA the monitor or fix it with the DVI_Recover utility.

Hello, this is my first experience here in hardforum, and i just subscribed to join in in the chat and to share what i know.

First, i will begin by posting this cool site about most of the cool LCD screens reviewed by behardware's Vincent Alzieu:
http://www.behardware.com/articles/619-1/updated-survey-13-lcd-20-5-6-8-16-ms.html

Second, in conclusion when reading and analyzing the site mentioned above, it came down to 2 screens:

1. The Viewsonic VX2025WM and 2. The Asus PW 201.

Third, Since i live in the Middle East, I called the local distributor of Viewsonic, and he told me that the VX2025WM will retail for about $650-760, He said he will contact me after two weeks to give me his final price. Very Discouraging.

But, the good news is, since i live in the ME, the Taiwanese company Asus calculated the price for the PW201 for about $550-650 (notice the very slight jump in price compared to viewsonic) I will know the final price tomorrow.

I Still am not so sure about the Asus since there are hardly any sites whom have reviewed the product, Except for pcworld which reviewed both, and shockingly, in contrary to behardware's Vincent Alzieu, pcworld gave the higher mark for the Asus, here are the two reviews:
Viewsonic (http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,125929,00.asp)
Asus (http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,125926,pg,1,00.asp)

You can go into a more detailed comparison by clicking on the "Test Report" button.

Anyways, thanks for your time, and hope my contribution to this topic was usefull. Thanks.

Did some input lag testing today, just out of curiosity.

Camera is set on 1/1600th exposure which is why the photos are so dark - I wanted the exposure to be as quick as possible for accuracy's sake.

CRT is a plain jane Dell 17" @ 60hz (same refresh as the VX2025WM and is running in clone mode on my Geforce 7900GT. The VX2025WM is running it's native resolution of 1680x1050 and the CRT is running it's max resolution which I think is 1280x1024 (can't remember),

LCD on the left, CRT on the right.

http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20004_thumb.jpg (http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20004.jpg)http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20007_thumb.jpg (http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20007.jpg)http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20008_thumb.jpg (http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20008.jpg)

So seems to be about 12 to 13 ms lag which I'm not even sure can be attributed to the LCD itself. I'm going to dig out another CRT and hook it up and compare the results when it's hooked up in place of the LCD.

----EDIT----

OK here are some reference shots. Two 17" CRTs, one a plain jane Dell and the other an IBM. Both were running at the same resolution and refresh rate.

IBM CRT on the left, Dell CRT on the right.

http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20011_thumb.jpg (http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20011.jpg)http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20012_thumb.jpg (http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20012.jpg)http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20013_thumb.jpg (http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20013.jpg)http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20015_thumb.jpg (http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20015.jpg)

Now the Viewsonic VX2025WM next to the 17" Dell CRT again. This time both are running the exact same resolution (1024x768) and refresh rate (60hz).

LCD on the left, CRT on the right.

http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20009%281%29_thumb.jpg (http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20009%281%29.jpg)http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20010%281%29_thumb.jpg (http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20010%281%29.jpg)http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20014_thumb.jpg (http://www.bbpix.com//files/1/vx2025wm/vx2025wm_inputlag_test%20014.jpg)

I actually took several more shots and they all seemed to show fluctuations between no delay and around 30ms. I'm not really sure why, the only difference between this and the first set of screenshots is that the VX2025WM is running at lower than native resolution.

Anyway I don't notice anything when gaming, and I play HL2DM and CS:S a lot. If anything I'm playing BETTER than with my old Hyundai L90D+.

I don't know why I decided to do this test, I was just curious after hearing all this stuff about input lag with other LCDs like the Dells. :) Take it all with a big bucket of salt. :p

I have a ghosting and calibration issue.

Ghosting: When I move the camera fast enough ibn games like WoW it blurs. When I move windows on the deskstop slowly, its just fine, very fast, it'S just fine, at medium speed, the window blurs.

And how do you calibrate it? I tried following some settings posted and I ust have gotten it very wrong cuz it was awfull. The writing doesn't seem that sharp yet either, and I do use clearfonts and have cranked up the sharpness a little, but cranking it up too much doesn't seem to give very good results graphic-wise.

I also saw some gradient tools or something posted, and some cool videos(one with dolphins when I read the whole thread b4 buying the monitor, and I can't seem to find them again if anyone know where they are. It's also my first LCD monitor so it might take some getting used to. I'd just like to have that "That's just perfect" feel when I look at it and be as giddy as a schoolgirl when I play games and do things. Widescreen owns though.

Have you reinstalled your ForceWare drivers since you got the LCD? If not you should do so and then your monitor will be detected properly as a flat panel and you will get additional options in the nvidia control panel.

I had the same issue after plugging in the new LCD for the first time and reinstalling the drivers fixed it.

I've been away from this thread for a bit, but thought I would post my observations on using this monitor.

I had 1 (maybe 2 side by side) dead pixel on the far right side of the screen, maybe 1/4" in from the right. Since its so damn wide (the screen) I dont even see it. But it still annoys me that I have NEVER purchased an LCD that was free of dead pixels. I guess thats my curse.

As for DVI issues, none here. I am using a BFG 7800GT 256MB card, forceware 91.31 beta, XP Pro, and the monitor goes into sleep mode and recovers without issue. Also have recently installed Vista 64bit and its default Nvidia drivers work the same. I guess for the price, and overall quality of this monitor, I should give it some slack about the dead pixel! :) Seems to be the best LCD I've had yet! :D

In any version of Windows you can press the Print Screen key (Prt Scr) and it will take a snapshot of your entire screen and store it in the clipboard buffer. From then all you have to do is fire up an image editor (Photoshop, Irfanview, Paint, etc) and paste it into a new document.

If you just want to capture the active window, you can hold down the ALT key while pressing print screen. :)

Ok, after a week of using my VX2025WM, I can report that I have no major gripes at this thing.

No dead pixel. No lag issue that I can see.(I stand in middle of Ironforge and spin the world just for the hell of seeing any of those glowy weapon/armor on the characters spears and such, nothing out of the ordinary, if not good). Goes to sleep and wakes up without a hitch.

The only small gripe I have is that when viewing this LCD at an angle, I think the anti-reflective thingiemabobber feature made it seem like it has more gamma then normal. Wouldn't bother me since I'm always in front of it, but may be an issue when someone is watching from the side. That is to say, nothing is wrong with the displayed image at an angle. Still see all that is to see and clear. Just that it has slightly more gamma than viewing from directly in front.

I have played Oblivion on this thing and it is just AWSOME. :)

Another small gripe is that this monitor doesn't pivot from side to side. Some times I just wanna turn the monitor and show a friend something quick. I'm thinking of the Ergonomic(sp?) desk arm for the LCD. Seems like a usefull thing to have with a nice display.

I fixed that by attaching mine to this kick ass stand for a great price. Now it tilts, pivots, rotates and swings. See my review here

Are there still problems with this monitor and the Geforce7900GT? (Something about DVI problems iirc.)

Are there still problems with this monitor and the Geforce7900GT? (Something about DVI problems iirc.)

I have seen sporadic reports of the EDID information in the VX2025WM being corrupted when used with some nvidia cards, but not the 7900GT in specific. This problem is due to the fact that Viewsonic didn't enable the write protect bit in the EDID info, and something with the nvidia cards and/or drivers is randomly corrupting the EDID info and causing the monitor to remain in sleep mode when connected via DVI.

The DVI_Recover program originally used to fix this very same problem with some Dell flat panels also works great with the Viewsonic. It fixes the EDID info and flips the write protect bit to keep the EDID information from being corrupted again. It's also been reported that this issue only happens with early revisions of this monitor, and certain ForceWare driver versions.

The other problem that specifically affects 7900 series cards has to do with adapter scaling of non-native resolutions. With 7900 series cards non native resolutions are stretched to fill the monitor screen no matter the selection you make in the nvidia control panel. I'm pretty confident this is a software issue that will be resolved with a future driver release.

I have an eVGA 7900GT and havent experienced ANY issues aside from the scaling issue noted above. It's absolutely beautiful and I am SO glad I went with this monitor versus the Benq 20.1" widescreen that's been on sale lately.

So if the 7900 series isnt an issue with this monitor, I might look at getting one of those new 7950GX2 cards! Anyone used one with this monitor yet?

And who says size doesnt matter? :D

Hello all...

I bought this LCD a couple of weeks back and it really is great.

My only problem with it, and I think it's a big problem at least on mine, is the backlight bleeding.

While watching Lost (dark scenes) and games like F.E.A.R. I can really notice the light in the 4 corners. I tried to ignore it at first but I realized it's really annoying to me.

Anyone else have a backlight problem that bothers them? My 30 day warranty period with buy.com has expired and I'm trying to complain with Viewsonic. They're not very good about answering emails. I might have to call them.

Anyone RMA'd directly with Viewsonic for a backlight problem?

Thanks in advance!

I think everyone has that problem. Ya its hard to ignore but w.e. It only happens when the screen goes black.

It's not really backlight bleeding, it's something to due with the coating on the screen. Some people are more sensitive to it than others...

It bothered me at first but that was because I was too close to the screen. The further you are away from the screen the less this effect can be seen.

Do the Dell 2007FPW and thet really expensive NEC have this problem as well? I read the Dell had a banding issue but I have not read anyone's post complaining about its backlight.

Man this sucks... It really is bothersome... I will try adjusting the brightness some more, but I doubt that will work.

Do some of these viewsonics have more of this problem than others?

Now that my 30 day warranty is up with buy.com, any I can get my money back (besides selling it), even if I have to pay for restocking? What are my options with Viewsonic?

Thanks again!

Yeah i don't really dig the sparkly reflection lol... but I am used to it now. I still love it...

There is no restocking fee at buy.com

Well... I lost track of when I ordered it and 30 days from order date went by so they wont take it back... at least the website doesn't give me the option of returning it (RMA link is not there)

Will it make a difference if I call them at buy.com?

I might consider just selling it... I bought it for $340... i'd hate loosing out on it since i've only been using it for a couple of weeks. And with all the rebates and stuff going on now, no one is going to want to pay close to $340...

I'd like to get a Westinghouse 37" 1080p anyways so I wouldn't need this...

dunno... any other recommendations?

Thanks yet again! hehe

They all have this problem, its just a trait with the panel and the antiglare coating which Viewsonic aint gonna do anything about.

Help please?

Anyone else have that blurry problem? When I move a window around very slowly I could read it in motion, very fast text looks still crisp and clear, everything in between(like normal dragging speed) makes the content of the window blurry. I'd like to if it's normal or not to know if I should RMA it. I'm installing a shooter see how it performs when I look around.

EDIT: Just played a few minutes of BF2 and I wonder if I won't get headaches playing longer.

How does watching T.v on this monitor look like when you have a pretty descent Tv-tuner?
