CellFactor x64 WITHOUT PPU CARD!

Alright. Here it is! After 2 days of testing/perfecting, the solution is finally here. This can be very time consuming, and isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world, but do not be discouraged, you'll get it eventually.

http://www.ageia.com/images/physx_in_action/feature_top_cellfactor_02.jpg

The first step is to download the CellFactor demo. The demo is free, and is roughly 464MB's. Click here (http://64.62.151.74/downloads/cf.exe) to download it. If the link does not work, try the second mirror (ftp://cellfactor%40ageia%2Ecom:cellrocks@66.220.3.57/cf.exe). Once downloaded, do not open it. Leave it alone on your desktop- we'll get back to this later.

The next step is to download Orca, which is a free MSI Table Editor packaged with the Microsoft Platform SDK kit.

To install and run the Orca editor, follow these steps:
1. Download the Windows Installer SDK samples, tools, and documentation from the following Web page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A55B6B43-E24F-4EA3-A93E-40C0EC4F68E5&displaylang=en) (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A55B6B43-E24F-4EA3-A93E-40C0EC4F68E5&displaylang=en)
2. Install the Orca editor by double-clicking the Orca.msi file in the \Microsoft SDK\bin folder.
3. Orca will install, and can be found in your 'All Programs' menu under your start menu.

After installing Orca, click the start menu and open your 'My Documents' folder.Go to the top of the window and hit 'Tools', and then 'Folder Options'. Click on the 'View' tab and scroll to the part where it says 'Hidden Files and Folders'. There will be two options under that. Click on the 'Show hidden files and documents' folder and hit 'apply' then 'ok'.

Click your start bar, and select the 'My Computer' option. Double click on your main HDD, (usually C:), then double click on 'Documents and Settings'. Double click on the name of the account you are going to be using to install the demo (in my case, administrator). Double click on the folder 'Local Settings'. It should be greyed out because it was a hidden folder, ignore that and double click it. Next, double click the file labeled 'Temp'.

Go back to the CellFactor demo installer (cf.exe). Double click it to run it and then immediately switch back to the 'Temp' folder. Look for a folder that will be created, generally named something like '_is2A' or another name close to that (Will have a _ in front of the folder). Double click it and watch the files begin to fill up. This is where the installer is moving all of your files before they are installed. Wait for the CellFactor.msi file to be finished transfering. You will know when it is done because the file 'ISScript1150.msi' will pop up. Right click on the CellFactor.msi file and hit 'copy'. Close the window and right click somewhere on your desktop then hit 'paste'. The file will be copied to your desktop. Right when you finish a message should pop up saying that CellFactor cannot install with the version of Windows you are running. Hit 'ok' and let it close. Open up the Orca editor we installed eariler and drag and drop the CellFactor.msi file we copied into the editor. On the left side of Orca, a list of table names will appear. Locate the column that says 'LaunchCondition' and right click it. Select the 'Drop Table' and select 'Yes' to the popup box that appears. Go to the top of Orca and hit 'File' -> 'Save'. You have now editor your file to install on Windows XP x64.

This is the important part to making this work, so PAY ATTENTION!

Right click on your newly edited CellFactor.msi file that you edited in Orca and select 'copy'. Open the 'Temp' folder you found earlier and re-run the CellFactor setup file (cf.exe) that we downloaded eariler. Hurry and find the folder the installer makes, you won't have much time for this next step. Watch the progress bar, and as soon as it switches from the 'CellFactor.msi' file to the 'ISScript1150.msi' file, QUICKLY open the temp folder CellFactor makes and hit paste the file (right click in an empty spot and hit 'paste' or press ctrl+v). Switch back to the CellFactor installer setup and let the game install. If no error screens pop up, you have successfully installed CellFactor! Now we have to set up the game so we can play it without an AGEIA card.

Download the file I uploaded and open up the 'readme.txt' file. From there it will give you instructions on what to do next. As soon as you have everything in the readme done, you can run the edited shortcut you placed on your desktop to play CellFactor WITHOUT A PHYSICS card!

*Edit: No attatchments at HardForum, so I'll have to upload it to Rapidshare or MegaUpload. The file size is only 90kb.

TADA! You're done!

*Things you should know about this game*
-Very demanding
-Your PC will play like absolute crap without a PPU card unless you are running one of the homemade levels.
-The maps were made by RandomVictim from SocomCodes.com
-The 'Shortcut to CellFactor' file was created by RandomVictim from SocomCodes.com
-All I did was make the demo playable for x64 users, I did not find out about playing without a PPU card.

Thank you, and have fun!

Or you could just install it on xp, copy the files over to xp64 and start the game with the cellfactor.exe EnablePhysX=false and viola. It screws up after the loading the level for me though. =P

Edit: host for file (http://home.swbell.net/aw2001/CellFactorx64.zip) that doesnt suck.

Still crashes the same with file mod for me though =(

After loading the level I get this,
-------
An unexpected error occured. Saved diagnostic file to 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Artificial\CellFactor\SystemGame\Reality Engine.dmp'.
Stack Trace:
Address = 0x1dbf018 (filenamenot found) švÆ

I'll try installing it with the method above later to see if it makes a difference

Stack Trace:
Address = 0x1dbf018 (filenamenot found) švÆIt's probably missing the Ageia sw driver that gets installed during installation. The sw driver installs fine in WinXP x64. The PhysX card driver probably won't install, but it's not necessary anyways.

The included level plays OK on my system @ 1024x768 w/HDR and 16xAF. There is some choppiness when a lot of stuff is going on at once. It plays a lot better than I expected. The 2 extra levels in the zip file play even better. Maybe i'll record a video with FRAPS later.

Hey it worked, ;o) I'll see if I can improve on your method later by launching the msi directly or something. My crash was likely due to some crucial registry keys missing and the game's inability to gracefully catch that event. Right now I'm going to see if I can get the game past slideshow framerates on my fx5900u.

Edit: I cant find a way to get around the setup.exe, but on the plus side I know how to make microsoft installers now with vs2k5 ;o)

Yeah, I'm gonna give that a try tommorrow. Right now I'm running the omegas based of the 6.3 cats, so I'll switch to the straight 6.4's tommorrow. Thanks.

I can actually run that game surprisingly well w/o a PPU....rig in sig...about 25 fps with decent settings, no HDR.....Looks like i'm going to wait for DX10 and then get a super upgrade :D
