GameIndustry.biz has an interesting article online (http://www.hardocp.com/news.html?news=MjMwOTUsLCxobmV3cywsLDE=) where an Eidos exec. Claims the next Tomb Raider game will be like watching television. Pretty lofty claims, but after playing games like Gears of War and seeing the direction that Tomb Raider: Legend took, I wouldn’t be surprised if it looked phenomenal.

On what to expect from the next-gen version, he commented: "I've seen some of the in-game models and it's just like watching television; if you felt you were in love with Lara Croft previously, you ain't seen nothing yet. You'll be drooling when you see the new Lara as she appears in the next iteration."

Better send this to Stuart. Lora may be back on top again. :D

sounds good to me, I havnt been a big fan of tomb raider since the series beginings, but I have no problem getting back into it if they release a game worth playing. Though I think i'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the old lara with the pointy triangles on her chest.

More realistic eh?

So...a back brace or breast reduction. Argh!

Heh, yeah...in the day, Tomb Raider was awesome. This last game Tomb Raider: Legend (http://console.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTE0NiwxLCxoY29uc29sZQ==)...even with its shortcomings, was pretty good. If the address the issues we brought up and up the graphics like they say they are...it could be impressive.

I don't care how many polygons, hi-res textures, or spiffy mapping you use, Lara Croft can never be made to look "ultra realistic." Though they could make her measurement a little more realistic.

IMHO the move to "Ultra Realistic" will screw things up. They should bump up the detail from Legends and improve the gameplay, framerate and story at the most.

game developers have been promising us these "ultra-uber-realistic" games for years now, and even have us second guessing ourselves every year *cough*E3*cough*.... so I'll believe it when I see it.. IMO I don't think we will see gaming that's "like watching tv" for at least another 5 years

The question is...will there be a CPU/GPU fast enough to run it....for years I have been waiting to actually see in-game graphics that is close to the FMV intro's.

A high polygon count is nice....but not when it is at 3 frames per second.

I don't think we'll see anything "ultra realistic" until they lay off of the bump/normal maps and shaders and start using a high polygon count again.

Sure, those things are nice...but they just can't replace a nice, super-high polygonal model.

I'm sure this won't happen, but i wish they'd make a Tomb Raider with little to no combat. I have the most fun in those games when i'm jumping, swinging, and solving puzzles. The combat always feels tacked on. I know the gunplay is part of what makes Tomb Raider what it is, but i'd appreciate at least a mode in the game where there are no enemies.

Fight Night round 3 for xbox 360 already looks very real on the characters themselves, though the backgrounds are pretty poor. The characters could just almost pass for the real thing.

Will the toe make an appearance in the next version?

I hope not the one from GenMay!

All-in-all, I doubt it will be like they claim. But, any step forward is nice!
