I just found this on New Egg. It must be fairly new; it's not an Asus's site, and all I got from Google was a crappy review, and a few German sites that listed the thing at 2000$+ or 1500 Euros+.

I don't know weather this is a pricing error, a new product at a low price, or a really good sale, but at 200$ less than the A8Js which is for all practical purposes its equal, I'd say it's pretty darn good. Now lets hope it stays at this price until I save up enough money. Darn you insurance!

Here's the link (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834220104)

Looks like a nice laptop though I would prefer a lighter weight. Anyone familiar with the build quality of ASUS?

Looks like a damn good deal on a sweet laptop; includes some GREAT upgrades at that price. Building a similar laptop at dell would cost you probably $400 more even during a deal. 2 of my friends have ASUS laptops. Both of them are completely satisfied, though neither has had to deal with tech support (which is a good thing after a year of use), so I can't attest to the support.

Only bummers: 1 gb ram in 512 MB chips and the small battery that won't last too long with that screen resolution and system specs (you're looking at probably 2 hours).

The base:
Windows MCE
2.0 ghz Core 2 Duo (4 MB cache, 667 MHZ FSB)
120 gb hdd (5400 RPM SATA)
1gb 667 mhz ram (2 x 512 mb)
ATI X1700 (512 mb hypermemory -- 256 mb dedicated)
WXGA+ (1440x900)
6-cell lithium ion battery

Extras:
DVD Super Multi drive
bluetooth
infrared
gigabit lan
wireless A/B/G
webcam
Card Reader: MMC, SD, MS, MS PRO
Carrying bag (though probably low quality)
Optical mouse (probably good enough for most users)

Weight:
5.25 lbs

Interesting link:
A8JS as referenced by OP is $300 more and the same except 512mb dedicated GeForce 7700 instead of the X1700 (256mb dedicated), but no bluetooth.

Does anyone know if you can disable hypermemory? On a card like that it'll only waste RAM.

Good to know. I might just consider picking this up

pretty hot deal! As someone else here stated this thing is the alternate version of the a8js, nearly identical except for the video card which gets nearly identical scores to the x1600/7600/7700 (yes I know that sounds rediculous but it's a fairly accurate statement). I will buy this if it's still avail after x-mas , too bad no more free shipping :( Thx op!

AFAIK, you can do so with the graphics memory aperture option in BIOS.

That's a hot price, probably a mistake. I want 15.4" or I'd go for it - Asus laptops are great.

Man, I'll bet it is a mistake. By the time I have enough money after insurance, it'll be expensive again. :(

I love how it's 14". With a notebook, you want small. Maybe not 12" but having seen 14" laptops, they are incredibly convenient. Leaps and bound better than 15.4". The portability and convince difference is amazing.

Still the same price, may not be a mistake afterall.
