No, the are mtv players, some weird halfassed asian video format that no convertor converts to or fro, atleast on mac and linux.
If you want a mp4 player, you're going to have to spend about 100 atleast. Or get one of those harddrive enclosure + tv output cases.

For the price it seems pretty much unbeatable. ~50 bucks shipped.
external speaker, 2" screen, movies, mp3s, pictures, fm radio, voice recorder, and uses a standard nokia cell phone battery that is replacable so you don't have to just dispose of the unit or buy a new unique battery when it dies due to recharge cycles.

30 bucks on ebay with 20 shipping -- you'd be better off going from this store with an 80% postive lifetime rating. --- you gotta figure that the numbers on the buis review sites are ALWAYS lower than reality because most people will only post if they get ripped. So an 80% lifetime score is probably really quite good for these type of device sales.

alright....after reading quite a bit of good stuff on the glacier and seeing a review of it on utube I bit.
You've sent a secure payment of $56.49 USD to Dragonmarts Company Limited through PayPal. The payment will appear on your card statement as "PAYPAL *DRAGONMARTS". You'll receive an email receipt shortly.
It's $5.30 off with the coupon code, cost $5 to ship, and I paid an extra $3.50 for insurance in shipping from Hong Kong. Total = $56.49
I paid through pay-pal securely - and they had 2750ish feedback through paypal ---so it's not some run in the night company (i hope).....
I'll let you know what I find out. Shipping was said to take 7-14 business days...so it will be a bit before I get back with you. But this could be a really cool little device for the money.

Alright - so I bought the glacier
THUMBS UP
it came in tonight and it's an AWESOME toy for 50 bucks.
BIG huge screen in comparison to the device. The thing is TINY....I'll take some pictures...
It is about as long as my pinky and about as tall as four or five stacked quarters.
The screen is super clear! The build quality seems great! I think I could probably resell these at work for a profit :)....The interface takes about 3 minutes to get used to before you are a pro!....
Sound is great, radio plays very well,
The headphones it comes with look cool but sound really crappy - when i first plugged it up I thought -- well it's cool, but the sound quality is not soo great...but when I plugged in a pair of cheap ear buds from wal-mart the sound got 100x's better. I think i need to buy a quality pair of ear buds now.
This thing is REALLY truly worth the 50 bucks! I can't speak for the 1.5 platinum unit - but thumbs WAY up for the Glacier!

The glacier accepts Nokia cell phone batteries.
QFT...That's why I picked the glacier - of all the units on that website the glacier was the only one that used a battery that would be easy to purchase (Nokia cell phone battery)
I also liked the external speaker option on the unit so I could play some music on my desk and show people my videos with sound (no headphones) The external speaker sounds pretty small, but considering the overall size of the unit it's still really good. I just used the cheapest shipping option and got today...I posted the day I purchased it in here as well...I'd guess two weekish transit time. I did just get it today. It came packaged well in a UXCELL brand box. Came with a USB cord for PC use, and a USB adapter for wall outlet charging. A crappy english translated instruction manual, and a driver CD.

I've seen one of the uxcell products, it was one of the nano rip-offs. It wasnt the "full metal" one, it was the kind with a plastic front and a metal back. It had a little bit of twist in it if you know what i mean. As in if you took it in both hands and twisted it a little it would squeak and move slightly. But i imagine the full metal one wouldnt have that problem. Also the play/stop symbols rubbed off after a couple days.
As far as functionality it worked. The UI seemed kinda engrishy - not streamlined and intuitive like other mp3 players ive seen.
The major drawback is that it uses a smaller headphone jack. 2.5mm i think. standard earbuds will not work and the ones that it ships with really really suck. They sound horrible, However they sell a 2.5 to 3.5 (1/8in) adapter cheap.

There are the images of the glacier - it uses a standard 3.5 mm ear phones plug I wouldn't touch a unit with a 2.5 mm ear phone plug...the adapter is unwieldy.
This unit sounds QUITE nice for 50 bucks. I don't think given the functionality and asthetics of this device anyone could complain!
Ask me any specific questions and I'll try to answer. The unit has movie playback but it does NOT support AVI and WMV --- at least without converting them to another format...I'm still trying to figure that out...I'll let you know when I do. The picture of the polar bear is the unit playing a movie that came with the device. I put about 1.5 GB of mp3's on it and the interface is pretty intuitive compared to what I expected.
The little speaker rocks...i'm listening to it right now...it's like a little tiny desk radio...plenty loud to hear...Definately taking this to the office tomorrow to show it off!

No one can believe the price because the US market rips off its consumers.
Remember we are a capatilist country. That's one of the reasons why MP4
never took off. Half the storage of MP3 format..
And oh yeah.. all of our MP3 players cost way to much for the market.

Oh, I know. I agree. It's still crazy though. They're taking a huge profit hit if they were to have comparable prices. The unfortunate thing is that here in the States, people have gotten used to high prices. So much so that things with a low price actually deter them because they think it has to be expensive if it's quality.

My sentiments exactly. And you have a valid point there US used to mean quality.. now when we export US products to other countries they think its complete garbage.
The only thing that we seem to spread to other countries is innovation *new ideas*
although other countries reinvent our ideas and usually embarass us.

The jack on the side is 3.5mm and the usb cord can be bought anywhere if lost. The UX-Osmium needs a special usb cord , so dont lose it if you get it. The Osmium seems to be the same qulaity as the Palladuim. 2 negatives i have with the Osmium r the usb cord and the speaker doesnt sound as good. Im A Happy Camper:D .

i like the battery compatibility of the glacier, but am wondering what makes the palladium cost $16 more.
hey archaea: in those putfile pics, the one showing the contents of the box, whats that black box with the two leds on it at the top? is that the charger?
and has anyone had any experience with their support? i do realize they are in china, so i wouldnt expect much haha

Archaea
02-18-2007, 02:22 PM
Yeah, The black box with the two LEDs is the USB AC charger when you don't want to use a computer. It's similar to the standard Blackberry chargers. The Red LED means charging - green means done.
I think the palladium would be the smaller lenghtwise but thicker - I didn't compare the acutal mm size specs, but the 2" screen that both units use would be the same screen ---- but the screen on the palladium is almost the entire face, whereas the glacier has the controls on the same face as the screen. I know the glacier is really thin and I would think the palladium must be a smidge thicker.

You can find the mini player white or black for about $159.99 if you google the item. I also found a 8gig Version coming out in March for about $195.99. Pre-order payment of $50.00 is needed for 8gig version . If i was shopping for that high in price range. I would pay $249 for the Zune player instead. These little players are under 60 bucks after coupon and there 2gig's.

i was playing with mine more last night. (glacier) The tempo controller is really cool! It's like an audigy card in that it can speed up or slow down the tempo without changing the key/pitch of the song notes....So it can be really fast or really slow and the singers voices still sound the same (I.E. not chipmunks singing) This is a good feature for working out on the treadmill or something if you like to run to the beat of music.
I'm still impressed with mine. If I compared it side by side with a Zune - I'm sure the Zune would win (I haven't ever played with a Zune) --- But my unit was about ~55$ shipped....and that is 1/5 of the price.
Get real on the GB usage guys. 2GB is enough music to listen for DAYS straight without needing to change the titles. For the price it's a compramise that is worth making. It's USB 2.0 so it transfers fast and why do you need to store your whole 30GB music collection on your handheld mp3 player?

It's about variety. Obviously I'm not going to put my entire collection on a portable device, but 2GB is about 1/20 of my main collection. That's not much variety, especially if your files have a high bitrate.

I encode all my CDs at 192 VBR mp3 with lame. I get a great sound but it does take between 75-100Mb depending on the length of the album. I used to work at a used record store so my CD collection is in the couple of thousand CDs range (really easy to do when you are paying $2-4 an album). So with 2GB I am looking at 15-20 albums depending on length. I think last time I took inventory I had something like 2027 albums with roughly 20 albums to be ripped. So with 2GB I can't even put a dent in my collection. The Creative Muvo2 I have (4GB) gets loaded up with a workout playlist every time I go to the gym. So I personally find 4GB to be inadequate, where as I wouldn't even consider a 2GB player. To make a blanket statement like, "Get real on the GB usage guys. 2GB is enough music to listen for DAYS straight without needing to change the titles. For the price it's a compramise that is worth making. It's USB 2.0 so it transfers fast and why do you need to store your whole 30GB music collection on your handheld mp3 player," is just ignorant.
Value is more than something being cheaper than something else. Value is something working for my situation at a price (and quality) I find acceptable. So while 2GB might be great for some, it won't satisfy me, so it holds no value to me (therefore not really a deal at all). At 4GB you are talking more my language, but I would prefer something in the 8GB range to really satisfy me. Note I'm not saying anything on the build quality etc of these players, I'm just saying that a blanket statement like the one above is ignorant. If all anybody needed was 2GB players Apple wouldn't be selling 60-80GB like they are going out of style.

so at your 192KB/Sec bit rate encoding we get 100mb per album.
You'd get 20 albums worth of space.
That's over 20 hours of music???
I don't know about you - but my gym workouts usually are about 45 minutes long ;)
You can't put what you like on there with 20 hours of music using a 2GB setup?
If 2GB doesn't meet your need then it doesn't --- but for the vast majority it does and these players are phenominal price/performance units!
GJSNeptune

I wouldn't claim that most people use portable audio players just to work out. And you better be using flash-based player if you are. I bet some people have one player for working out and a hard-drive-based player for other uses. I take my iPod to work every day and have it play on my desk, and I'd probably go crazy if I only had 2GB.
But you're right, if 2GB isn't right for you, it isn't right for you.

I have a tendency to just throw whole albums on there and work my way through them as I'm working out. I also put demos/singles on there to check out new or independent artists, which can entail a lot of skipping.
Like I said, I have nothing against these players; I just find that 2GB isn't what everyone on the planet finds acceptable. My Jazz, Classical and House albums will really put these players to shame...especially when you've got a single album that is taking up 300-400Mb on your drive (not to mention I'm sure these players are more like 1.8GB players).
For some 2GB might be great, and for others it will seem plenty inadequate; it is all just dependent on your listening habits.
Oh and this thread has way too much calm thinking/discussion going on. Here: YOU GUyZ R ALLNOOBS AND SO R THESE 2gBS plyers.

Than you have found yourself good value in turn making it a good deal. Personally I won't touch WMA at any kbps, but to each his own (I have heard that WMA can handle low bitrate better than MP3 and/or OGG...so you might be better off at that bitrate).

with an average handheld player chances are you won't be able to tell the difference between a well encoded 128 kb/sec mp3 and a 192 kb/sec.....It isn't like these units use an audigy 2 ZS platinum pro chipset. :)

2gigs is great for music. 1 cd holds about 7~10 mp3 cds of mixed constant 128/192 and 256vbr, atleast for me. 2 gigs is alot more then I need with my tastes, since I get bored/download more real quick.
But, I think most people complaining about the size is those who want to use it for video. At standard pirate video, its 600~700 for a 1.5/2 hour movie. How big is it for one of these videos after running it thru the compression.

with my glacier I don't think you'd want to watch a real DVD movie.
It only plays back at prolly 15 to 20 FPS...it isn't full feature smoothness. It's not bad for a couple short viral video clips here and there, but i don't think it'd look so great with a divx flick...

I have a friend who has a generation 1 chipod looks like a nano - it is 100% complete crap compared to my glacier unit. I couldn't even figure out how to use the device. He couldn't get folders to work correctly for storing media, the interface is extremely clunky - there is a long pause in switching songs ect. Should be easy considering these are really nice. The video playback is probally around 20FPS, but it looks cool.. Colors are vibrant. There is a little light leakage on both sides, but once past the installizing screen they are no longer noticable... I've already sold 2 of these in the past hour (from people seeing mine) for 50 buxx.. Time to order a bunch!!

I ordered (and recieved :) ) both a Glacier and Platinum and I can verify the company is legit with very fast, cheap shipping. The units themselves are very nice - although they have limited run times on the internal batteries compared to my Clix. Overall, definately worth the money.
The only wierd thing is the shipping: It leaves Uxcell via UPS and comes to the US (west coast), once it arrived in Kent, WA (near Seattle) it gets transferred to USPS (good ol' post office) for delivery (I live in Idaho). The post mark says 'New York' but according to all the tracking info I recieved it never went anywhere near the East Coast. Go figure...

It's not a 'clickwheel'. Imagine 4 membrane switches at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, covered in a flexible, thick nylon 'decal' that is flush with the body of the player. It feels well made, but it's kind of hard to describe.

Just a quick question. The Black Hawk is the one that can play NES games, correct? Did anyone buy one of those? If so, could you tell me how you like it?
Same goes with the Full Metal one. That seemed pretty slick too but I haven't heard anything about.
I was about to purchase one of those but playing NES games on the Black Hawk is really, really tempting.

I dont have the Glacier , I have the Ux-Palladium and the Ux-Osmium. I can use the manger software that comes with the players , but i just drag and drop 320k files into them and GOOD to go. No problems with players i have. I do use the software to convert video files onto it.

Something I have noted in most mp3 players is that they don't like non-standard (22.05k or 44.1k) sample rates.

I have had my player restart on me about 2x's...
I'm not sure what caused it....I have my mp3's recorded at any possible bitrate - I've gotten a few of them at LAN parties and such so there is no standard encoding rate. I've not really payed that much attention to it....If it restarts I just kinda go with it.
You aren't paying Ipod prices so I think it reasonable to encounter a glitch or two here or there.
If it straight up can't play 192kbp mp3s - that's uncool - I'll have to check tonight. But I hadn't noticed that and I would have thought I should have by now.
I think this glacier mp3 player is great for the vast majority of people. If you are a perfectionist it may not be your bag. But for my purposes it's a really cool unit.

03-02-2007, 10:17 AM
Even when you do pay Ipod prices you do have many comparable glitches. Like trying to play a track but it just wont start. It forces you to restart the player by holding the play button for 5 seconds. This has happened to me more then a few times. Then the Ipod sometimes has problems handling mp3's not encoded with it's own program. I have a few Lame VBR mp3's that will get cut off about 20+ seconds before the end of the actual track. When I watch the player run I see the time is moving at double pace some of the times. So Ipod is definetly not some pinnacle rock solid piece of hardware. Mind you these same Mp3's play perfectly fine in my new Creative Vision: M without a problem. I have also had problems with 1 or two songs skipping (yup like a cd) on my Ipod.

I have an iPod Video 60GB with tons of mp3s and none of them were encoded by iTunes. Most are ripped using CDex. I've had zero problems playing them on my iPod. Actually, I've had zero problems with my iPod as well.
YMMV, as always with electronics.
I'm willing to bet your playback problems stem from the encoding and not your iPod.

As I said the mp3's work perfectly with my Creative Vision: M and actually worked great with my RCA Lyra 40gig mp3 player and RCA Lyra 512mb mp3 player. It just seems Ipod is having a problem. Maybe with the multiple versions of L.A.M.E I was using with that might of had some flags that the Ipod didn't like. But if the song is playing perfectly without a hitch then the timer shouldn't be skipping ahead at random intervals. I am also not the only person who had this problem it has been discussed in Apples forum.

http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-removing-memory-hack-vt2400.html?highlight=low+level+format
Already have first half of season 1 of Avatar The Last Air Bender uploaded, some chapters from a book I'm reading (little disapointted it dosn't do .doc) and Pirates (gotta love Jack).
Got my Glacier yesterday, so it took about 9 business days.
This is one nice "little" unit. Have to be careful to not lose it, it's so small.
First thing I did was download the firmware for a backup copy and then did a low level format to fix any possible problems that I've been reading people having (restarting, hung hour-glass, memory hack).
This took all of 5-10 minutes including downloading and installing the software.
After that I copied my pre-loaded library in WMA format to the Glacier. Turned it on and worked like a charm.
Sorry no pics yet and I haven't had a chance to test the video yet either.
Lots of good info about these units here: http://mympxplayer.org/general-discussion-vf16.html
Although you'll find a lot of people having problems but I think thats mostly because the people who don't have problems don't even know that website exists.

Image quality is ok, but on the test video I was using I keep getting some slight stuttering in the audio. Some said turning down the quality fixed that, but it didn't seem to do much for me.
Some also said that the AMV converter tool isn't very good. Maybe there's a better one out there somewhere.
Here is a short clip I downloaded off the Internet (AVI format), used their AMV converter tool to convert to AMV format (of course).
My camera didn't capture the quality very well.

Not true. If you're in the USA then the majority if the time Uxcell just ships out a replacement without you having to ship the defective one back to them. I ordered a Full Metal Platinum 1.8 2GB and a Glacier at 2GB. I followed these instructions (http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-removing-memory-hack-vt2400.html?highlight=low+level+format) as mentioned before to check if you have the correct amount of memory and to aid in crashing, etc. The FMP checked out fine, but my Glacier ended up having 103MB!
So I guess I am one of the few that are having problems, so I e-mailed them saying that I have read others have had memory issues, so I checked and I have a memory problem too; please send me an answer on replacing my unit or refunding my money. Well, they replied, but I don't think they understood my problem, even though I thought I spelled it out. Here is my e-mail, and Uxcell's response:
Hello,

I formated the drive with the included software like it was recommended to me
from a friend to make sure that I had the correct amount of memory that I paid
for. Well I followed a format procedure and found that I DO NOT have the
correct amount of memory that I paid for! More specifically, the unit says it has 102M.

Dear customer,
Each folder can only save 99 files even there is memory left, so please check
whether you have saved more than 99 music files in one folder or not, if yes,
please try to separate those files into different folders, the problem should
be solved. Besides, all the folder should be created under the root
directly and no sub folder should be created. Please kindly have a try and advise.

Well, judging by the manual, their English is not the best (Random quote from manual, "...Go with the following steps to have intercept to have sequence Input intercept in intercept speed..."

That info is about a month old and I've not researched recently - but it seems to found on several different sites, from several different sources.

UXCell has a good reputation and this is suppose to be the first true 4GB (hence the name).

Any opinions on the i-Platinum Junior (Link (http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0wht2048mp021))? Has a 3.5mm jack, only 4 hours of battery life (but most seem to be rated at 4 hours), very small in size.
Seems the battery life is actually less than the four they say (one guy said it was under two hours!).
Think I'll go with the little bit bigger regular i-Platinum as many people say it is great and the battery life is at least four hours. Too bad it has a 2.5mm jack but I suppose I can live with that.

Well I received the Glacier and Full Metal Platinum today.
Glacier:
The Glacier was working okay out of the box albeit extremely extremely slow. I had planned to low level format it anyways as advised in the thread. I went ahead with this procedure without any issues and it ended up at the right capacity 2gbs. Fast forward 5 minutes when I tried to transfer a song to it and it randomly shut itself down.
I plug in the Glacier to the wall adapter to get it to charge, the cord on this is maybe 1.5ft! With the switch turned to off I get a red led on the charger and with the switch turned to ON on the player the charger has a read and green led. After trying various things for a few hours, I get frustrated and yank the battery and plug the player back in to the charger. Now after turning the player on I get (in broken english) basically plug a battery in to charge.
I am assuming that the battery that came with it is just completely shot and I won't be able to try a replacement nokia battery until I get back to the states in the end of March. Anyone else had the same problem.
And now onto the other player.
Full Metal Platinum:
This was for my lady and was the valentines edition. This was also operating unbelievably slow out of the box for a flash player as well so I went ahead and did the low level format on it. This went great and the player finished at the right size 2gb.
I transferred some wma's onto it and it works great. The lady also wants you to know for a chipod she gives it two thumbs up :-P My only complaint about this is the stiff, almost stick buttons and the headphone port is extremely tight to plug things into. The sound output and quality is actually fairly impressive to be honest.
-
This is my experience thus far and I hope the new battery will eventually get the Glacier working properly as it seems like it would be a fun beat on mp3 player for a while.
Any questions, feel free to ask.
edit: just another update, now the glacier won't even turn on at all with the battery out and plugged in... doh really really don't want to ship this back.

You say you got a red and green led light on the charger when plugged it into the glacier correct?
Does the Glacier display anything when it's plugged in like this?
The green led means that it's charging.
Also, you have to have the Glacier switched on when using the wall charger.

If you are having problems, take it to the proper forum, this is [H]otDeals, not Diagnostics 101....

anyone purchasing the glacier and palladium, feel free to do a side-by-side comparison review :D
i'm thinking i might go with the palladium, simply because it has a higher res screen, its relatively smaller (buttons on side) and a longer battery life. any reasons why i shouldnt?

Sorry MajorDomo, I think so many people are talking about their issues here, because others may still be interested in the HotDeal.

Anyway! Here's a TOUCHSCREEN mp4 player phone that just got added to their inventory. Someone buy it and lemme know how it goes :p
As for my player, I've now tried 8 different format and it kept restarting anyway. So I took it apart (After trying a low level format and everything.)
That's when I noticed that the connectors on the battery were not aligned. To be exact, all 3 connectors had a different bend. So then I wanted to see if it was these that were the issue, so I held the player, and shook it when it was playing.
Lo and behold it restarted. Put it in my pocket while playing, it restarted. So then I cut 2 very thin pieces of plastic and slid them under the bottom of the battery (I'll take pics if anyone REALLY needs them), and it's on it's third song without skipping.

if that phone supported the 850mhz band i would buy it and give it a try. I am sure I could sell it for more than their asking price on ebay or something

Someone on ebay was selling it as a fake iphone for 500. After more digging, it's only a dual bad phone. Great for europe and asia, but not so great for the states. Most US carriers use 850/1900 and this is 900/1800.

I've seen this same response from Uxcell from others who said they emailed them and got a useless reply.
Basically they either had to reply back to them a couple times before they got anything or else go to www.mympxplayer.org (http://www.mympxplayer.org) and send a PM to Keith. I've seen people have good luck after contacting him.
Was the email you sent to Uxcell to info@uxcell.com?
Ok, so I sent a reply back to info@uxcell.com saying that I have no files loaded on the player and only have 103MB of total storage. Their reply was still telling me to not have over 99 files per directory. Nice.
I also registered at mympxplayer.org in search of Keith to PM, but can not find anyone with that screen name. Did I miss him? I would like to have that 95% or so of memory I paid for back...

Yup, sorry. His screen name is Uxcell. I just assumed it was Keith because that's what everyone was saying.

You should move the majority of this thread to the Computers and Gadgets forum. Then it won't gummy up [H]ot|DEALS anymore.
Great looking little players though. I'm thinking about snagging one of the Black Hawk players or a PSP. :D But the PSP doesn't have video out, or an SD slot, or built in Nintendo ROM playing, or... :p

Good idea moving it to the gadget forum.
I also picked up a PSP, and I have to say that I love the screen on it.
Though I'm curious as to why I see so many for sale on craigslist.

The PSP can play NES (along with just about every other system). :p But lets not get off-topic here.

My glacier started acting up a bit while charging...I read on another forum that if you put a couple pieces of paper under the battery to raise the battery a bit it might fix it.
True tail in my case. The unit works fine again. I was having issues where it would turn off sorta randomly.
All I did was put a post-it note double over under the battery and turned it back on. Also one of my battery pins was bent a bit and I straigtened it out. I still like the unit for the price. Just take note on your glacier the QC might be a little less than desirable in the battery pin department.

Yeah, I cut a sliver from the lid from a Pringles can and put that at the bottom of the battery. Fixed mine.
Looks like Apple paid them, a visit, all of the ipod/shuffle clones are *gone* from their website. Not sold out, all traces removed.

Why? the take downs were for blatant design copies of the ipod, all their other products are still on the site. I am surprised apple was able to exert this pressure on a Chinese site, but that was the cause most likely

It's a serious question I want an MP3 Player bad.
But one thats great and doesnt hurt the pocketbook.
Mainly though, i want to use it for long walks w/ the woman
and early morning runs.

If it looks like an ipod it is gone.
Sounds like the fake ipods weren't the greatest anyways. How is the menu speed on the Glacier?

That i couldnt answer for you. I have 2 UX-Pal and 4 UX-Os models and they rock. Only thing i hate about the UX-Os model is the headphone jack its 2.5 mm. The Speaker on the UX-Pal can be heard 20 feet down the hallway at my work (i work at a hospital) . Im always jamming some techno / Rap / Hard Rock. Its funny to see people look wheres the music coming from:p .

I got one of the 2GB silver "Chipod" 1.8" screen ones a few weeks ago and I love this thing.
I customized a $1 Store silicone Nano case to fit (display is larger and the controls are lower) and slid it in a $1 Store leather case for an Ipod Mini and it works perfect.
Takes about 1 hour for a full charge, lasts about 5 hours constant use when playing mp3's or radio.
The fact that it can recored the FM radio is great when I want to listen to the morning shows and have meetings to go to. Recording does use up the batter quite fast, get about 1.5 hours recorded and the battery is low. The USB cord it comes with my be short but its the same type that my Logitech remote uses and that cord is about 4 feet long.
I did notice if you plug the player in to the USB port or into the wall adapter, you can use it like its on direct power, wont drain the battery, charges up while you use it, great when using the recording function.
The menu may be slow, but for all the extra's it has I really like it.

Glacier should be fine for running since it's flash memory.
If it reboots, then you have one with a loose battery compartment and you need to shim it with a thin piece of plastic like I did. (Pringles can lid. Cut a thin piece and 'viola' you have it.)
