Yes it needs an external tuner, it does not come with a built in tuner.

I agree. IamSpoli does not own this MONITOR (it's not, technically, a TV folks, since it doesn't have a tuner...heck, it even says monitor right on it)
There are better screens. However, the first screen I would even consider, at this size, that is better is 80% more expensive. (1799 + ship)
This monitor does 1920x1080P, (i don't mean it just accepts those signals. It actually DISPLAYS 1080p) has multiple PC inputs, HDMI, multiple Y Pr Pb, integrated speakers which are decent for basic usage. Will they compare with a logitech 5300 5.1 system, or a klipsch promedia 5.1, or a $2000 home theater setup? NO. But they definately are not

Like those craptastic things.
Personal experience is :
I see NO lag or jaggies in high speed gaming,
I see NO shearing of fast animation (like I did with my samsung 213T which is supposed to be "faster" )
dvd movie watching, HD-DVD watching, Blu-Ray watching, etc..all look great.
There may be "more contrasty" screens, but black looks like black, and grey looks like grey, and white looks like white, and I can easily tell the difference between them.
This screen is more than bright enough, in fact, I had to adjust the brightness DOWN from the stock setting, because at arms length (when I am using it for computering) my eyes were fatiguing from the "bright lights"
This review :
"Cons: Slight tearing/ghosting in Fear Combat but may be due to scaling or vga cable I'm using. Possible eye-strain due to 3-4ft viewing distance (My fault). Manual is very dry and non descriptive for a non techie person."
I have to agree. His tearing is due to a funky cabling issue.
Eye strain cause it's damn bright. Easily remedied by lowering the brightness a tad.
That being said, I got mine for a little over $900 shipped.

^you're right a TV is one WITH a tuner.
but these days most HDTV's are sold minus the tuner.

TELEVISION DEFINED
A television is a viewing device that includes a tuner. A device without a tuner is called a monitor. CNET.com reports that there is a loophole in the FCC measure that allows manufacturers to build TVs without any tuner, which would technically make it a monitor.
That means they aren't HDTV's. They are, in fact, HD-Monitors
My HDTV Toshiba has a Tuner. My Aquos LCD, and Westy LCD do not.
"LVM" = "Lcd Viewing Monitor"

Besides, WHAT exactly are you going to be using a TUNER to watch?
Over the air HD? Yuck outside of a few cities. Regular TV, yuck get a $100 TV.
85% of the US has CABLE or Satelitte TV and as such have NO REASON for the display to have a tuner. Westinghouse/Chimei choose to not bother marketing to the 15% who dont.
Satelitte/Cable/Fiber signal quality is better, and most compnaies now have HD versions of thier boxes.... usually HD Tivo boxes actually. So whats the point of wasting money and adding complexity to the display for an APPENDIX called a tuner?
Meantime, the Westy's 37-42-47 are without question the best BANG for the BUCK out there.

with the 37" lcd I have with the built in tuner that is hanging on the wall in my bedroom it made it MUCH nicer to look at without having to run a seperate box and hide it or have it sitting out somewhere.
Does newegg allow for pickup of the item if you are close to their distribution center?
