well if you look around you can get a 7800gs agp for $15 more, but the difference in performance might be minor

7800GS is not superior to the 7600GT
... considering 7600gt = 6800gt give or take 5% either way based on game.
the 7800GS gives you a good 10 to 20 FPS more then a 6800gt sometimes more depending on resolution.
7800gs agp > 7600GT
now the x1950pro agp owns them both but costs abit more. also gay ati widescreen issues.

What is with all the thread crapping lately? Calm down people, this is a forum to post good deals, not argue which is better.
Now, I hate to be a hypocrite, but Tzzird, you are wrong, probably because of the misleading info from that site. The 7800GS outperforms the 7600GT. Here is a link from Tom's Hardware: http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html?modelx=33&model1=529&model2=543&chart=196 Also, I went from a PCI-E 7600GT to a 7900GS (very similar to the 7800GS, maybe 5-10 frames difference), and there is no comparison between the 7600 and the 7900. It is DEFINENTLY a faster card, despite what the site you have a link to says.

I guess you missed the "+" next to the card model? That card is not a GS core. it is a GT core on an AGP card. Those benchmarks are not "GS" numbers.

Once again, hate to be a prick, but do some research before you post. The GS+ is NOT the GS (strayshot beat me to it!)

They need to get rid of those charts... they mislead people into thinking some cards are superior to others. If you're going to quote tomshardware, you should at least have supporting evidence from other sites.

review showing it beating a 6800ultra pretty good
http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q1/geforce-7600-7900/index.x?pg=1
review shows a 6800GS ( which is a 6800GT)
just barely behind a 7600gt
and since 6800 ultra > 6800gt
and 6800gt = 7600gt ( very close)
=
7800GS> 7600GT
end of the day the 7800gs is faster overall then a 7600GT
I'm not saying the 7800GS is a better price/performance deal then the somtimes very cheap 7600GT's
but it is faster.

7800GS > 7600GT
Bottom line though, there is NOT much of a difference. If you can get them for the same price, then get the 7800GS, BUT, if one can be had for cheaper than the other, then get the cheaper one. If I was in this situation, I'd pay $15 more and get the 7800GS. Some may not have that opportunity to pay a little more, so the 7600GT will have to due and is STILL a great card.
This is a pretty nice deal for a 7600GT.

A 7800GS and 7900GS are not very similar (the 7900GS has more pipes and much higher clock speeds). The 7900GS is around 30%+ faster.

How do you read the techreport review as the 6800gt being very close to the 7600gt? I see 3150 on 3dmark06 for the 6800GS (which I do agree is a GT when unlocked) and 7600GT at a 4051. That's a 30% gain in 3dmark score.
That being said, I do agree taht the 7600GT and the 7800GS are in the same class. That's why I said earlier:
7800GS is not superior to the 7600GT.

If you look at the actual game tests and not the canned benchmark you see the 6800gs actually beating the 7600gt in some games and always on its tail in the rest.
point is if a 6800GS/GT ( and no u dont have to unlock anything on the gs to perform the same as a GT)
anyways the 6800GT hangs with and beats the 7600 at times... the 7800gs always beats the 6800ultra so you cant say the 7600gt is better when the 7800gs always beats a card that somtimes beats the 7600gt.

I had a 6800GS before that I unlocked to 16 pipes. So prior versions of the 6800GS AGP needed unlocking. Maybe the new ones came with 16.
Recent oblivion benchmark from tomshardware himself comparing 7600GT 7800GS and x1950PRO
http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/02/01/agp-platform-analysis/page10.html
Flip through all the other benchmarks besides oblivion and 3dmark and you'll see that they pretty much run neck to neck.
Stop making indirect comparisons from 6800 GS to GT to ULTRA to 7600GT to 7800GS also.

your obviously unwilling to look at the common sense infront of you.
the comparisons of all cards ive listed show why the 7800gs is obviously better at the end of the day overall then a 7600gt.
anyone who cant see that is being biased to a certain card for some unknown reason.

It's clear that you've addressed the indirect comparisons of these cards. But why haven't you discussed the reviews that DIRECTLY compare the cards? Talk about bias...
In any case, I apologize to everyone reading that this DEAL post has degenerated into an argument over the quality of this card.
I don't feel like I have to say anymore so this will be my last post.

Wow, its getting deep in here, lol.
These cards should be getting cheaper with the 8xxx series midrange just around the corner. But since there AGP, its hard to tell.
Hopefully we will be seeing a sub ~200$ 1950pro AGP soon, :).
Nice find OP
