Anyone have any good comparisons of the benchmarks vs. a x1950 pro. I know theres lots of reviews just want a good one.

This goes around head-to-head with an nVidia 7900GT, right?

Maybe even hotter... newegg open box version for $116 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814102022R)
Might come with the cables and cds, or might not. If you're only going to be using it for dvi then you can't really go wrong. Same $6 shipping as the new version.

Yes, not much of a difference between the two cards.

How about compared to an X850XT? I'm looking at this as a possible upgrade to that, would it be a good difference in the box?

it would be a vast improvement over your x850xt!!

Looking at THG VGA charts, the improvement is about 25%. Not bad for $130 I reckon, especially if you go (software) crossfire later and get a second one.

Also the X1950GT is $124 AR @ newegg currently.

Wait, the X1900GT is faster than the X1950GT?

yes it is faster than a x1950gt

Ah, this is crappy rev2 :(

what is wrong w/ Rev 2

caveman-jim
03-19-2007, 09:10 AM
The first revision X1900GT had a higher clock speed, same as an X1950Pro. The revision 2 drops the clock speed down, as does the X1950GT.

Here's a comparison chart I found on BeHardware (http://www.behardware.com/news/8569/radeon-x1950gt-smells-like-x1900le.html) -
As you can see the X1900GT's and X1950GT & Pro all have the same number of shaders/pipes etc but have different cores & clock speeds (core & ram) - and the X1950 cards are 80nm (RV570) instead of 90nm (R580). The X1950GTs have the internal crossfire connector and don't need master card or software crossfire.

In terms of performance the 1900GT rev 1 performs like an X1950Pro, the rev 2 and the X1950GT don't, but not by much. All are way better than X16x0 series cards.

If only there were good linux/bsd drivers I'd be all over this!

so do you guys think this would be a good buy over the $150 Evga 7900gs (I can't seem to find clock speeds for the 1900gt)

caveman-jim
03-19-2007, 09:42 AM
rev1 x1900gt is 575 core 600 mem
rev2 x1900gt is 512 core 660 mem

Looking at THG VGA charts the rev1 is the faster card, but they don't have the revision 2 or x1950gt listed. I would think they would be about the same as the 7900gs. I would go with the x1950gt for $124 AR @ newegg myself, but I'm an ATI fan.

trade up program

mitcity22
03-19-2007, 10:19 AM
yeah that is what I need to decide, is the step up program worth the extra money of the 7900gs, I don't even know if I plan on using it in the 3 months, I will game w/ a 22" WS around 1650x1080 or something, I doubt the 1900gt will be able to play crysis and the other DX10 games a good setting (and it won't be in Dx10 so that sucks), but who knows when they will be released.

Tough decision I have to make, and I want to order today  Anyone else have some input?

Right now I am leaning towards the 7900gs and stepping up in a few months.

You aren't alone. This is a good deal for someone not looking for DX10 etc.

Yeah... I'm looking to upgrade a friend's game machine, which currently has an X800GTO2 (16-pipe unlocked and overclocked, so X850XT), but it just isn't anywhere near cutting it lately. So, if this isn't more than a double-improvement, I think she's going to head up to the 320MB 8800GTS. The "bang for the buck" just isn't there for her here :).

I have this card from 850xt. It's about 33% more frame rate.

You gain a resolution from playability.

850xt is 1280x1024 16xAF. The 1900gt can do 1280x1024 2-4x AA 16xAF or 1600x1200 0-2xAA 16xaf

Not only clocks are different about revisions. Main difference are that rev2 have digital pwm and 3x phase instead of 6x phase power for rev1. Not to mention rev1 have software voltage adjustment. rev2 is much cooler and less power consumptive, but overclock on rev2 sucks.

Yeah, I was looking at benchies when I wanted upgrade from X800XT. X1950pro is about double, X1900XT and X1950XT are more than. 8800GTS is woohoooooo!!! But it can't fold. ;)

Has anyone tried this with STALKER at 1280x1024?

Would it be able to do high details with HDR/dynamic lighting?

With overclocked x1900gt rev1, singlecore opty@3Ghz and 2Gb ram i can play STALKER at 1280x1024, max ingame settings AA6 AF16. Dont even try to play this game if you dont understand russian :D

The only parts in Russian is the idle chatter amongst soldiers/bandits.

The rest of the game is in English and very fun.

You should hear them tho. Atleast bandits. This game must be 18+ imo.
