While the 400GB is a repost, the 500GB isn't and is actually less per GB then the 400GB? (doesn't it usually start to go up by the time you enter that range?!)

$.24 per GB is pretty good on a 500GB HD, IMO. I wonder if it's .10.

Not for me. Seagate = guaranteed 5yr warranty. And I've had far better reliability rates with Maxtor drives.

Maxtor may be owned by Seagate. That doesn't mean I like Maxtor drives any better than when they were not. I consider them average, and in most cases they don't have the warranty of Seagate drives.

I only buy WD anyway. And even if I someday get one that fails on me, I'll still buy them.

I only buy Seagate and WD. From there, it depends on price and usage. I have two Seagates in my main system (see sig), and two in my beta-testing box. When I built a family member's system designed to go overseas and provide reliability in a tropical environment without a lot of support, I used two WD Caviar RE's in a RAID-1, and the system I built for my wife almost three years ago (just prior to getting married) has a Caviar SE that's been perfect as well. I've had the occasional failure, but they've both been better than average for me. Whereas Maxtor has been noisier, and reliability has been average for me, plus they usually have poorer warranties, so I don't buy them.
