Guys, I need help with my LCD decision. It's mainly for my computer, PS3 and watching movies as well. I was going for Westy 37w3 at first, but I live Canada, and the stores don't carry it, so I had to look for alternatives. So I found Sharp 32GP1U, and everything looked awesome, and I was gonna go for it. Even if they carried Westy 37'' I might still go for sharp, cuz I might be able to sacrifice 5'' for a better quality. But I saw 42'' westy sitting in Bestbuy charging only $50 more than 32GP1U, so I totally don't know what to do... I mean 10'' makes a huge difference, if it were not for the issues people had with westy(banding, lockup, ps3 compatibility etc), I would not hesitate and would have bought 42'' westinghouse. But with all the quality issues people raised, I really don't know what to do... Can someone help me out over here?

Also, when I was in store looking at the 32 Sharp demo, it seems like the contrast ratio was too high that the dark colors could not distinguish between one and another. Especially black. I saw these bikini girls on the beach, and their backs were facing the sun, so there's this shadow casting on their face, and I could hardly tell their eyes, noses,etc... all I could see was basically a black block, while the TV sitting right next to it, has a lower contrast ratio, and everything was visible under the same condition. But when it displays birght colors, it's so much better than the other ones. Did anyone notice this problem when using it? Thanks in advance

Quite frankly after owning a Sharp 1080p set and returning it for a 47" Westinghouse 1080p set, I really don't buy that Sharp is better quality. IMO it's an LCD, it's like a snowflake. No 2 will be alike and all manufacturers have their issues. Not to mention I found the image on the Sharp to have better blacks, but that was it, the IQ on the Westinghouse was cleaner and just....better. The Sharp HD just looked noisy (blocky even) to me.

The 42" does not have that many issues anyway, slight banding on some sets (also in Sharps) and just use DVI for PS3. Though my 47" Westinghouse has no problems with PS3 over HDMI @ 1080p.

Thanks very much ferris23, it's very good to know ur opinion. It's just that I have seen so bad, negative reviews and opinons regarding westy's poor quality control etc... and not as many for sharp. I guess that's what made me think westinghouse has lots of problems. Hopefully this thread will help me make a decision. Everyone please feel free to drop a line, thank you.

Dude go over to AVS forums and you will read FAR more complaints about Sharp quality control than Westinghouse IMO.
