I work at Home Depot and I just received about 500 60 watt equivilent , 14 watt draw, compact fluorescents, to give away to customers on a first come, first served, basis with a 50 cent coupon on next purchase. Caa'nt beat free. These are Nvision cfls, and never had any complaints. Some are 9 year warranties and some 7 year warranties, each bulb has a SN.
Hell give em a try, I still have one in my kitchen going strong after 6 years. Normal incandescent lastest me about 6 months.
Every one should be using these, not only to save money, but to cut the power output of fossil fuel power generation to the tune of a whole lot of power plants. Forgot the exact figure, but if every one used these, we could eliminate around 500 to a 1000 power plants.

Pretty neat but not a [H]otDeal, more like a freebie. :) And let's leave politics out of the offerings...

Too bad these arn't the Super bright kind that's usefull for people with Seasonal Affective Disorder (alot more then you would think as normal incandescents help those with minor cases).

I agree about the political implications, but where would i post this, to reply to the loss of jobs, don't want to do it here.
Thought about the free board but there is a 50 cent coupon involved.....lol. You at least have to show up to Home Depot tomorrow to get one, not like it's an internet deal where you sit on your ass and get one for free?

c.d.e what do you consider super bright and why? I don't know if I understand your post. Are super bright more helpful to you?
I switched out all my bulbs in the house with these about a year ago and I actually noticed a savings on my bill. I was a bit surprised. They are super bright for the first couple of days, but will "soften" to normal after that.
Great deal! I'll be there tomorrow. Could always use a spare or so around the house.

I have flourescents in every room of my place, except the bathroom where I have a dimmer.
The lights are super bright, which is really what I wanted. Most of them are mounted in ceiling fans, so that 3-4 lights per room.
I dodn't notice a savings on my bill, but thats because I wasn't looking for one. I wanted them because of the lifespan, ESPECIALLY in a ceiling fan.

It is a hotdeal. It's a free HotDeal. Notice how freebies are part of the hotdeals section? That means they are a sub-set, and therefore, included, in the concept of hotdeals.
The poster is correct, and as it's his post, he can say anything he wants.
If he wants to advocate the use of CFL's to save power consumption, that is his prerogative.
The B.S. about closing plants = lost jobs is irrelevant.
Let's just say you are pro-life (I am not saying either way) but if tomorrow, abortion was made illegal, nobody who is pro-life would be complaining about the loss of employment of all the people who work at "abortion clinics".
I have no qualms about putting people who work in an industry I do not support out of work. I do not support the child porn industry, tobacco industry, or for that matter, the fossil fuel industry. If those businesses went away TODAY, I would be unaffected DIRECTLY, (yet, I know, affected indirectly). My car runs on vegetable oil, so I can still drive everywhere I need to. My clothes are made of CLOTH, not polyester. I don't use vasoline, or power my home from an electric plant that burns oil. So, I'd have electricity, clothing, fuel for my car, and food. The food my be harder to get, and more expensive, but, to not buy 1 ounce of Petroleum Oil.. I could live with that. If de-vesting ourselves of foreign oil is so bad, then why is the UNITED STATES NAVY the # 1 consumer of BIO-DIESEL ?
This is not about "global warming" this is about conservation. I thought that republicans were "conservatives" ? (I mention republicans, cause it only seems that republicans are the ones who object to the concept of reducing dependency on energy, democrats don't seem to have that in their makeup [ask al gore if you don't believe me] ).. If we use less electricity for our products, then we can conserve energy better. I rarely run air conditioning in my home. I have SOLAR POWERED "box fans" that keep my home cool (except in really extreme days). Oh, and I don't do any of this because I'm "poor", in fact, I do this because I can afford to! I've got over 5K invested in solar power. If I wasn't intending to sell my current home, I'd have invested more.
Everyone should do something to reduce power usage, and general waste. Get a low flow toilet, run fans, turn your ac up three degrees (run @ 75 instead of 72, etc..) get a vehicle that is as fuel efficient as possible (i.e. do you really ever go offroading with that hummer? No? then you don't need it. buy a camry) Live alone and have no friends? Then you don't need that 7 seat escalade, either. Keep your tires properly inflated, do your oil changes regularly (use a synthetic), etc.. Gas is probably going to be $4.00 a gallon within a year.

Walk to the local convenience store when you need a loaf of bread, or a gallon of milk. Hell, by a half gallon of skim. That way, you'll weigh less, and you won't be putting out as many BTU's as you did before. (210 lbs of matter at 98.6 degrees produces more heat than 150 lbs of matter @ 98.6 degrees)
I have replaced EVERY crt device in my home & offices with LCD based screens. Our company policy is that all systems (except for our webservers) are part of a 'green' power usage profile that includes standby modes @ 5 minutes. As inconvenient as it is, my personal in-home (minoltaQMS 2300DL) laser printer is set to power itself down at the lowest # of minutes possible. The fact that it takes 5 minutes to warm up is a good counterpart that it isn't running at fullbore all day.
There's so many things we can do to lower our demand.
Make sure your dryer's lint trap and lint-exhaust tube are clean & unobstructed.
Hell.. just turn your tv off when you leave the room, even if you are "coming back in 10 minutes". That'll make a world of difference on your wallet.
Don't run the water when you are brushing your teeth. It takes power to run that public water works plant that is piping that water to you from the city. Hell, I use a less than a cup of water to brush my teeth.
Looking at my sig, you'd say I'm a bad offender. But, those machines are practically OFF when I am away from them ( 1W consumption? ) PSU's and hdd's aren't moving, an odd led might blink, but that's it.

they are of the Home Dept N Vision Brand (Used to be commercial Electric) in fact it was identical to all of the CE ones that I already have in my house. My House is almost all CFL accept for the few odd or impractical where incandescent lamps would not be ideal (Refrig, Oven Lights that are only on for a minute at a time)

Damn, it didn't occur to me that Earth Day was yesterday *doh*
The multi packs are pretty cheap, though (if you do buy some).
