The movie was bad, they tried to fit too many story arcs in one movie. Plus there wasen't enough venom badassery!

I love how so many people are complaining about this movie, but yet it has beat the all time revenue intake for an opening night showing. what was it something like $59M or something?
gee, I guess it can't be all that bad considering it's top-dog on the all time high list.

Considering you couldn't take a shit in a public bathroom without seeing an advertisement for the movie it's no doubt they made a ton of cash the first day.
Seriously, are you equating the opening night show receipts with being a good movie? *sigh*

lol nah it was just a tongue-in-cheek rebuttal. I really did enjoy the movie. I thought they did an amazing job with only 2 hours and 20 minutes considering how many things were going on. I really enjoyed it, and I feel sorry for the people that weren't able to for whatever reason.

Oh damn! I bought the game last night for $20!! Heh, at least now I can get $10 of my money back cause this game really isn't that great. :o
This version seems "broken" in that the game wouldn't load when the disc was in my SATA drive. It kept giving me a DVD-ROM not recognized error message! Once I switched it over to my PATA drive it finally loaded... and loaded right into the game! Meaning after I sat through all the company intros and advertisements for the various developers, publishers, rights owners, etc. it didn't even give me the choice of seeing the main menu to configure the game - I was automatically loaded right into the game! The controls and camera angles are also very clunky making it hard to see enemies at times. I tried using my Xbox 360 controller and found that the automatic configuration was all botched up. In trying to reconfigure the controller the game ended up freezing on me!
I honestly tried liking the game but it isn't worth the time and effort. I just hope that the developers put forth the effort to putting together a patch because it seems very obvious that they just kicked this game out the door to meet a deadline when it clearly wasn't ready.

I was just making the point that just because something is popular and accepted by the general public doesn't make it good.Anyways, I'm going to see the flick tommarow maybe and I'll probably pick up the game on the way.

All versions of the game are just as broken from all the reviews I have read Treyarch really dropped the ball on this one after nailing the first 2 Spidey games.

since when was your example either popular or accepted by the general public? .. being subdued by a mad-man's vision into giving up your neighbors or being dragged away in the middle of the night yourself does not make something popular nor accepted by anyone, even the executioners.
On a brighter note... the game is actualy good. Been playing it and thuroughly enjoying everything from learning how to swing, to picking up the best combos. However I cannot imagine how hard this game would be to play on a keyboard + mouse, as I gave that up for my logitech rumblepad. (and you'll be delighted to know that the rumble feature of this device is supported by the game designers)
From what it looks like, this game is WELL polished... and any litterary inconsistencies can be easily overlooked.

okay, I'll buy that.
on the other hand, let's see what the numbers are (in the millions and millions and millions of course) are next week and then we'll see what happens.
let me guess? it still won't be a good movie even though it raked in $100M to $200M because most of those people were brain washed in to going, right?

Well, wouldn't that be because the preview was good and the movie before it was good? Opening day is the worst thing to base the story on. I haven't watched it either, mind you.. but Opening day shouldn't be something you based on something like that on. Since its the reason people watch it is because of preview or hype or satisfaction with the previous installment.
For me I wouldn't even based it on how ever many days, since Titanic made people see it 7 times or so, and I personally thought it was a POS.

Well if it continues to rake in tons of money, then yeah I'll concede quite a few people think it's a good movie, opening night though doesn't mean squat to me. The reason I brought up the advertising points is that we see a LOT of movies make seriously large amounts of money on opening weekend, many of which totally suck. The advertising dollars go for a good investment on a return for movies.

Precisely. The hype sold the tickets. One of my fellow screenwriting/movie buff friends from college said it was horrible. That's good enough for me.

THe movie is ok, the worst in the series so far, but still ok. I'd give it 2.5 out of 4 stars.
It dragged on compared to the other two, with some really corny scenes(like 'bad ass' peter parker).

For those of us that "know" the story of Spider-man.. .All three movies sucked...... Peter first Girlfriend was Betty (J.J.'s Secretary) and then Gwen Stacey (Who was the one actually thrown from the bridge by the Green Goblin)... M.J. came along later when Aunt May pimped her ;) ...
Thanks OP for the deal... I picked up the game for my kids.

Hype, lack of competition and opening in many places in the entire world.
1) Hype - it's been covered.
2) Lack of competition - I think Disterbia came in #2, that opened up what? 3 weeks ago? So nothing to see in the theaters This weekend, don't think there's anything else, the week after.. Shrek the Third (if it makes more than that, maybe they have a chance to say it was a good movie), the week after Pirates 3.. Spiderman won't be a memory in 3 weeks time.
3) Openings - Didn't this also set a record for number of theaters it opened in? All over the world? Did they take into account the added revenue from all these other theaters? Seems kind of short sighted just to look at one number and declare victory. The world record for opening day got set with Pirates 2 came out a year prior, I'm telling you the advertising behemoths will continue to help trump those records.

Any Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com/) fans?
http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2007/20070509.jpg
For the record, I'll see the movie after the initial furor dies down and I can get into a theatre that isn't packed to the gills. I don't really care if it's bad; as long as it's not Catwoman bad, it'll be somewhat enjoyable just by nature of being a comic book movie. I go to movies because they look like amusing ways to spend a couple hours. Why does there need to be more to it than that?
EDIT: Oops, wrong picture. Heh heh heh
My 13 y/o son and his friends loved the movie, but wanted more venom and less Peter Parker.
Just ordered the game as a birthday present. Thanks saved alot of $$ not having to buy the Xbox 360 version .
might be worth seeing @ the local Imax :D
Eh, I bit. Ordered a copy for my daughter who is a big spidey fan. Thanks to the OP.

Personally I thought the movie was decent, but I agree that it wasn't without its problems. The most obvious was simply that there were too damn many plot threads going on and not nearly enough time to wrap them up. As a result the entire movie felt rushed and a little forced. Raimi is such a great director though (adn the cast so good, except for Dunst, who's ass-ugly face has never looked like Mary Jane to me) that he manages to make it watchable with excellent cinematography, superlative editing and a fantastic sense of style.
Think about it though: You had Spidey-Symbiote as internal conflict, Sandman, Eddie Brock, Venom/Brock, plus the Goblin character, effectively giving you 5ish "villains" for the hero to overcome. I guess regular Eddie isn't so much a villain as a minor adversary, but still, the point remains that you ahve way too much crap going on.
I liked that the ending felt like an ending rather than a teaser for the next movie, which is unique to this Spiderman movie among the others. Hopefully this really *is* the end, but I somehow doubt it. If there's one thing a film studio can be counted on to do, it's to run a successful franchise face-first into the mud. Just look at the last iteration of the Batman series: Nice start, dog-ugly finish. Same with Superman.

Top 5 movies for QUALITY based on user ratings, on imdb.
1. 9.1 The Godfather (1972) 212,082
2. 9.1 The Shawshank Redemption (1994) 253,285
3. 8.9 The Godfather: Part II (1974) 120,325
4. 8.8 Buono, il brutto, il cattivo, Il (1966) 63,017 (The good, the bad & the ugly)
5. 8.8 Pulp Fiction (1994)
Top 5 movies for BOX-OFFICE RECEIPTS, worldwide, per imdb.
1. Titanic (1997) $1,835,300,000
2. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) $1,129,219,252
3. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) $1,060,332,628
4. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) $968,657,891
5. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Notice the discrepency? Popular films don't mean GOOD.
Good films don't mean popular.
The #1 "best film" of all time (The godfather) ranks #224 on the "top selling"
The #2 film, (shawshank) didn't even make the top 250
Interesting things of note.
Dances with Wolves
"Wild Hogs" (travolta, macy, lawrence) (5.7/10)
Ghost Rider (5.3/10)
Austin Powers in Goldmember
The Blair witch project
All of these movies SUCK. Yet, they are all in the top selling movies of ALL TIME, WORLDWIDE.
Good Will Hunting is only 4 spots higher than Ghost Rider, and is below Bean, 2 fast 2 furious, Brother Bear, Crocodile Dundee 2, You've got mail, Charlies Angels: Full Throttle in rankings.
Casino Royale (the remake) places #33 of ALL TIME, and it SUCKED.

Like a bad movie never won any awards... Did you see "the departed" ? Was there even a plot?
Well if you need to know anything about CyberDeus, he's a bit conceited.
And you are the paragon of humility?
Sure, I am *conceited*. (I tend to think of myself as very confident). I made myself what I am based on the belief system that I am right more often than not, and that I should trust MY OWN opinion more than I should trust the opinions of others. That's why I build my own web-servers, because I can do so and make them more reliable, for less money, than say, dell can. Isn't one of the main points of this site that we are a bunch of computer nerds who know what we are doing more-so than "Brand X" or "Brand Y" big-box vendor?
Wouldn't that be arrogant conceit?
My father did not agree with this concept (about me being right more often than not), which was why I was homeless right out of highschool (i.e., he kicked me out) My father also, as I predicted, was dead (& broke) before he made it to 55, because of something I TOLD HIM he should do to change his life.
I am now a multimillionaire (who was homeless 16 years ago) completely based on the ideology that *I* more often than not, am correct in what I believe. I made my $ without taking ONE single loan, without going into debt, and without needing any sort of "outside" aid whatsoever.
So, when I say I am right, the evidence backs it up. I'm not saying I'm never wrong.. far from it..unlike someone we know.
Dances with Wolves gets a 7.8 out of 10. It is not on the top 250 movies list. So, that means people tend to think there are MANY better movies out there.
