is this really a good deal I should jump on? I plan to build a new comp when prices go down on processors at the end of July.. should I jump on this in advance, or can it only get cheaper rather than getting more expensive? Should I go ahead and wait, or buy now?

Def buy now, supposedly a manufacturer or two has already ceased DDR2 production and prices are already on their way up (ram chips are traded on a spot market so supply and demand is in effect here). Not saying you won't find a better deal on better ram a week or two from now, i just wouldn't count on it.

Edit: Unless of course you plan on building a DDR3 based rig?

Which deal is better: this one or Ballistix ddr-2 1000 mhz for $90 after 40 mir? I plan on building a system around c2d 6600.

I have two pair (4x 1gb) of these that currently sits at 450MHz, 5-5-5-15 @ 2.15v 24/7 but can do 500MHz 5-5-5-15 @ 2.25v stable as well... great ram for a great price!

The ballistics will certainly clock higher overall, but they're also more money and there's the rebate hassle factor.

Otherwise those who aren't looking for monster overclocks, and hate dealing with rebates, are probably better off saving a few dollars with this OCZ deal.

If you look around there are some ddr2 800 ballistix which should cloack similar to the 1000mhz ones.

Always Ballistix FTW!

Well rebate factor will keep my vote on the OCZ side.

if you want the best and are willing to deal with the MIR, then this is the best deal.

After spending a long time agonizing over a couple of decisions:

1. Do I want to deal with MIRs or not?
2. 2gb or 4gb?
3. Crucial or OCZ?

I decided to jump on one set of the OCZs. It would be $10 or $20 savings with the MIR, but would cost about $40 per 2GB set more out of pocket at this point. I'd rather not let $40/$80 sit out there, waiting for a MIR check for 8-12 weeks.

As for 2GB vs 4GB, I figured, I've never seen my RAM usage go above roughly 1.5 gigs yet, and I'm not using Vista, and even when I do, I'm probably going to start with 32 bit version, and if I ever do go with 64 bit version, I could probably buy another 2GB kit at that point, although the mix-matched sticks may limit overclocking.

As for Crucial vs OCZ, I've heard too many stories about bad Ballistix. Maybe it's just cooincidence, but I've owned 2 kits of OCZ RAM, and no problems.

So that's my thought process on this whole memory madness thing, in case anybody cares, which I'm sure you don't :p

I currently have 4x1GB of the ballistix in my main box... I run it 24/7 @ 890 4-4-4-12-2T w/ 2.2v. I also have two OCZ kits that I've run at similar/higher speeds without issues. I'd have no issue buying memory from either company, both have great support and lifetime warranties.

Will this ram work ok in my Dell e521?

Will this ram work ok in my Dell e521?

It should work just fine... it will probably just auto-clock down to 667 speeds. If your Dell truly only supports 667 you could go with cheaper 667 kits if you wanted.

Windows Vista... I cant remember where the article is, but if you search somewhere, you'll definitely find out how Vista has affected RAM prices...

All the RAM manufacturers really ramped up their production in anticipation of eveybody needing to buy more RAM for Vista. However, when Vista sales weren't astronomically high, the RAM companies had extra RAM on their hands.

So now, they dropped prices in order to get rid of it all. In the meantime, we benefit! :)

I'm not sure, but I jumped on these:

http://www.clubit.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=CA4354017

For $60 after rebate with free shipping, it's hard to get much better. Sure you've got to screw around with a rebate, but as long as you're adamant about getting your money back you should be fine.

Gotta be quick though, the rebate expires today, so get that order in ASAP.
