i just got one for my mom.. my sister and I are going halves on it for her christmas / birthday present. i spent the extra $20 for a 19inch widescreen..
watch there be one for less $ tomorrow..
this is really about equal to a few deals that popped up recently.. there was one for $430 with a c2d and 19 inch, and i think dvd burner, but smaller hdd.. then there was a pentium-D with 2gb of ram and 19inch for $420 or so..
if the above link doesn't work, this should get you there:

Looks like a nice deal. Not the biggest fan of dell, but sometimes their prices are hard to beat.
Anyway, does anyone know if the disc drive is just your standard size or is it some sort of special deal because it is a slim tower? I ask because I really can't see spending an extra $70 for a dvd burner, not when I can pick one up for $30 to $40.

I love how XP Home is the default OS, instead of Vista!

That's their Vostro line for ya.
No BS, just straight to business (pun intended).
I've been eyeing their laptops, specifically the Vostro 1400.

Ain't that the truth. ;)

i purchased the vostro 1400 earlier this week for $599. the starting config was pretty much what i would want if i were in the market for a notebook. it has c2d 1.4, 2gb ram, 8400m GS, 120gb hdd, dvd burner, wifi, etc. added built-in webcam and it came out to just under $700 after taxes and free shipping. i wouldn't get the webcam but its not for me, its my gf's christmas present.. shhhhh :D.
my sister also purchased the 1500 two weeks before. i set it up for her and was surprised how little/no bloatware was on it. didn't even have to reformat (she got it with XP). very nice solid feel to it too.

I purchased a Vostro 200 mini tower (not the slim version like the link above) two weeks ago for my Aunt. It has an E4500, 1GB RAM, 19" widescreen, 160GB HD, Vista Basic, KB, mouse... all for 419 bucks. She needed something new and the deal was too good to pass up. I could never have built her one equivalent for the same price.

Shoot, I meant pun unintended. That was cheesy.

i am pretty sure it is full size. the optiplex slim towers have the laptop drives, but this is most likely full sized.

i just got mine and cracked and it open.
full size sata optical
4 sata headers on motherboard (2 spare), no ide, no floppy
1 spare sata power, no molex
2 hdd bays
4 ram slots (2 free)
1 pci-e
2 pci
(low profile)
80mm heatsink fan, very easy to replace, but has 4 wires.. possible easy upgrade to 120mm
80mm slim fan on top of case
the computer overall is bigger than i thought it would be too.. i was thinking it would be the size of the sff optiplexes, its a good 2 inches deeper and taller.. maybe a hare wider

I just built a PC for my mom with old 939 parts and it's giving me trouble. This might be a good idea so I don't have to deal with family tech support.

The Vostro Desktop is nice PC. I grabbed one of these for my sister for Xmas. I got the 419$ one with the C2D 4500 1 GB Ram 160GB Sata. She had a really old PC that she played WoW on and this was a nice upgrade for her.
When I saw that the deal came with a 19 inch LCD thats all it took. I couldnt have built one that cheap, the tower is actually pretty damn nice I was impressed with it. The PC plays WoW pretty decent right out of the box. I had my dad get her 2GB of some Crucial an 8600GT and a 500 watt PSU to throw in later. All in all its a very good deal and great gift.

Ok I bit. Stuck with XP Home, the integrated graphics, 1GB memory and such as it's for mom. 19" widescreen as well. I had her check out my 20" widescreen and the 1680x1050 was too small for her. Total Charges: $528.63
damn tax!

bump cause this is still a live deal and also for a question
Can anyone speak to the quality or lack there of on the 19" analog widescreen?

If the monitor is the 19" widescreen model then it's a TN panel and includes a DVI connector as well (though the onboard video is VGA). Not the best monitor on the planet, but for the price...

Ok cool, I figured it didn't even have DVI, good to know. Now we'll just have to see how mom feels about widescreen :o
