Or people that have P35 boards and want to use AHCI! :D

I just noticed that all 6 internal SATAs are on the ICH9R chipset, and IIRC AHCI doesn't play nice with SATA burners.

I have 4 different computers running SATA burners in AHCI mode. Not even a hint of a problem.

My BadAxe2 only has one IDE port, which is taken by two of these drives. All my HDD's are SATA. Microcenter has the Samsung drives with the same specs for $30 if you wanna pick them up locally.

See any noticeable difference from IDE mode for your burners?

Are you able to boot from CDs/DVDs? I've had issues booting from Acronis TrueImage rescue disks w/ SATA burners if I'm using AHCI.

Not in my installs. YMMV.

On all 4 machines I installed Vista by booting the DVD and using F6 for the AHCI drivers. Also have booted a CD of memtest without problem. Never tried trueimage.

Who needs IDE any moreThe more advanced users over at CDfreaks (http://club.cdfreaks.com/) till recently still preferred IDE optical drives over the Sata ones. There seems to be less issues overall with IDE from what i've been reading, though i'd bet Sata models are steadily improving and probably would work fine 99% of the time.

But I'm a lucky kinda guy.

This drive is now "deactivated" at Newegg and is utter garbage- Mine's going back in the morning.

DVD extraction is locked at 2x, my two year old NEC 16x drive blows it away.

Firmware 1.03 or 1.05, made no difference.
