I've been searching for a long time. This TV has an amazing contrast ratio.

Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000U9ZCQS/ref=s9_asin_title?ie=UTF8&coliid=I2DULFU65HZY11&colid=QYYE2GAK8LAH&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=right-3&pf_rd_r=12VAFZAHPM5XC8Q3NGEK&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=280762301&pf_rd_i=507846) $1518.98 free shipping but tax for me...
Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889102159) $1499.99 + $99.99 shipping but no tax for me

By the time you find a place to pick it up, you could have over nighted it or three dayed it.

Yeah I know but you need somebody to sign for it and I work all day long...trying to figure out some way to make it work...

You could call the courier company and tell them to place the package on hold for pickup. Then you can go pick it up during lunch or after work. (I think UPS/Fedex usually have will call hours until 7:30ish or so at night). That's almost the same as picking it up from a local store! :)

FTR I have this TV. Aside from occasional stuttering on some sources (esp Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on) with the Auto Motion Plus feature on (makes film look like you're right there watching it be filmed) This TV is amazing! We've had it for two months now, and PQ, contrast and black levels still blow me away for HD content and gaming. Touch sensitive controls FTW!
The best TV out there for the money right now, in my opinion! Good luck!

Thanks Texas. This is the lowest price I have seen it yet. Did you buy it local when you got it? Do you remember how much you paid? Thanks...

We bought it at Fry's in Plano (not local for us in MO, but I was visiting a friend and at the time it was a GREAT price) in late october for 1799 w/12 months no interest to ease the pain. My wife was cautiously optimistic but once we got it home and put Desperate Housewives in HD on, she was as in love as I was.

Keep in mind Samsung customer service is NON-EXISTANT!! I spent 4-5 months just trying to get them to come out and repair or replace my tv... NOTHING, wouldnt even come look at it... I contacted Amazon WAAAY after their 30 day return policy, they replaced the tv in 24 hours. Dont buy Samsung!

Unlike Josh Hazel, I have had very good luck with Samsung products and support (albeit phone support); I frequent AVS forums and I have seen evidence from posters there that Samsung has been pretty good about dispatching on-site service for those that found problems with their products.
When I first got the TV I plugged it into a laptop w/windows vista to test via VGA. At full 1080 it was sharp, crystal clear, and responsive.

I have the LNT-4065. (The older version of this set..) Samsung service has been good to me. I had issues with it and HDMI, so they promptly scheduled me for service. Since I live in Auburn, Al, there wasn't a local center, so they coordinated to have it picked up, and serviced elsewheres. Thanks to the shop being incompetent (ask me in a PM for details), the TV came back worse than it left. A call to Samsung lead to them just writing the whole thing off, and giving me a brand new TV.
I'd call that good service...other than the shop that did the work...
Just my $0.02

this is easily the nicest set you can buy for a 40"

This is a great TV but be forewarned: the AutoMotion Plus feature has serious problems with it, and is all they talk about on the 250+ page thread on avsforum. This feature is intended primarily to reduce motion blur inherent in LCDs but introduces a number of problems that include:
- artifacts from interpolation errors which are weird looking ("TBE")
- inconsistent video smoothing (smooth, then stuttering, then speeds to catch up)
- video stuttering on certain input types, like PC and Xbox. (this may be due to dropped frames or improper interlacing from xbox360).
- adds huge amount of lag (like 50ms), which is a problem for gaming
Ideally, this feature should be fantastic for gaming because of it's motion-smoothing feature, but in practice it's not so great.
Personally, I've been looking at the xx69, which is the xx71 with a semi-matte screen (same as sony xbr4/5).

Just note that the 69 has a 20,000:1 contrast ratio and seems to cost more and the 71 has a 25,000:1 contrast ratio.
Is there a way to turn off this feature?
Yes, it can be set to Low, Medium, High, and Off

What do you think of the xx69's 6ms response time vs the xx71's 8ms.
I'm looking to use this as a gaming pc monitor, wii, and dvd screen and am wondering if the 2ms difference is worth the lower contrast ratio to further reduce possible artifacts.

Official Samsung LNT-xx71f Owners Thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=893827)
This thread may be useful..... or not, considering it's at 420+ pages now. Most of the talk surrounds AMP issues and getting it to behave properly with sources.
What Steve said is right, you can set the 'level' of AMP to minimize artifacts. You can play with it in the store.. .high works ok for movies, but for sports/gaming you'd probably want it on low or off (or better yet, game mode).
