Based on current video card statistic, architecture, and market prices. These cards will go down in price drastically in the coming months. Unless it was $150-200, IMO, its not worth it, unless you really need it.

Let me know if anyone actually gets this after ordering... Last thing I bought from Buy.com NEVER even shipped. They charged me the day I ordered, and the item said in stock, will ship in 1-2 business days. I also payed extra for faster shipping. After useless calls to their non-existent support, the item still never shipped. I will never buy from them again if i can help it. I just disputed the charge with my credit card. The day I called it in the woman taking my complaint said I was the third person to call her THAT DAY with a Buy.com problem. Now it's almost a week after I cancelled the order from Buy.com and they still haven't refunded my money. Guess citibank and I will have to pursue this one to the end...
Just buyers beware. If you get one and luck out, good for you!

buy is legit but aren't good on telling when they run out of stock. I bought a book there the other day and it took 2 days for it to arrive. It sometimes take a long time to ship especially on these hot deals which usually wipe out stock and they are terrible at telling when things are shipping. for this i say it'll take a long time for you to receive it.
lol sorry if i rambled on in my post

I bought a box of cables from Buy.com 1 month ago. They still haven't shipped. I've complained a lot and they gave me a $10 credit to my account about a week ago. I'm in the process of canceling my order for the cable. I'll use the gift card and after that, I don't know that I'll be buying anything from Buy.com again.

buy.com is legit and a great site. I have also experienced restocking problems, but they normally only charge you after your order shipped, though dunno if you experienced otherwise.
And my opinion stands, the 38XX series are great, but will drop in price significantly in the coming months. The r700 is being taped out, Nvidia is dominating the market, and if you look at AMD/ATI financials, they will have to either liquidate or attempt to leapfrog Nvidia's performance/value, both will lead to price drops. Right now its the new shiny thing on the block, wait until its in the market for a while, and what will happen. Do your research prior to undermining my first post. If your being sarcastic for me stating the obvious, all things, especially electronics depreciate fast, though based on current statistics, I can make the presumption that this is not a good deal, as theoretically the price will decrease significant and in less than 6 months for sure. Though this is only an educated guess/presumption Thanks

.... but anyone considering buying anything from Buy.com has a right to know the following true story. My first purchase with them went without a hitch, and I'm sure some people get their product just fine. The point of this post is that you're still taking a risk, and I want you as consumers and "hot deal seekers" to be aware of what I'm going through with Buy.com:
Like I said in an earlier post, I had cancelled said order a week ago, still have yet to receive the refund back into my account. If they do return my money, I'll call my credit card and cancel the legal action. If not, they're going to get a letter from my bank. This is the second time I've purchased from Buy.com. I never checked their ratings online, and the first purchase I made with them happened with no problems whatsoever. What scares me is when you get the run around via tech support. Let me be more specific:
when they answered the phone I explained to them that an order I placed on an item that was in stock still hadn't shipped. The customer service rep told me he'd look into it, and then he put me on hold. He came back on about 13 min. later and informed me that the warehouse indeed had the item in stock and that he didn't know why it hadn't shipped yet. This was about a week after I'd placed the order. I said that I paid extra for faster shipping. If I'd known it was going to take this long for the item to ship, I would've just saved the 12 bucks and done the budget free shipping. He said that I could change to the budget free shipping and have the money I paid for shipping refunded. I said that that wasn't necessary, I just wanted my item to ship ASAP. I told him I would be happy as long as I got my merchandise. It was still during business hours when I called him, by the way.
He then told me he couldn't guarantee that the item would ship out that day. Then I suppose I got a little flustered... I said that you KNOW you have the item in stock, and I placed an order a WEEK ago, but you can't guarantee a contract that we had, and that they had ALREADY charged me for according to certain shipping arrangements? I said that this was unacceptable. He said he would "escalate" my order to the "escalation department". I asked him what that meant and he said that he really didn't know but that he thought that they might be able to take care of my problem better. I said, OK, transfer me to them so I can speak to them about it then. He said that he couldn't transfer my call to them. I asked for their number and he said they didn't have one, I would just have to wait for them to contact me.
Two days later they still hadn't contacted me, so I called again. I was informed that the item was still in stock, that my order had been "escalated" already, and that I would have to await a response. I informed them that I was on a time constraint and needed this particular merchandise to complete a project for a client. I again mentioned the extra money I had paid for shipping. I told them that I shouldn't have to pay for shipping if they didn't deliver the product even close to the time promised in our contract of purchase. She said that if I wanted I could get the money back for the shipping, and she would be happy to "downgrade" the shipping to the free budget shipping. I asked what this meant, and she explained that it would take the 7-10 business days instead of the 3 business day shipping I had PAID for. I told her that it was already beyond 7-10 business days, and I didn't think that I should have to wait even longer. Again I was told my order would be escalated. I demanded (but still said please and maintained calm for the most part) to speak with so called escalation department, only to be given the runaround again. By the way, both times she had me on hold during this phone call took 20 min. and 15 min. Thank goodness for toll free... I then told her that if it didn't ship out THAT DAY I would cancel my order. I felt like a contract we had was violated. Many other retailers don't even charge your account until your item ships, or at least until they stamp your name on an actual product.
Needless to say, my order didn't ship out that day or the next. I cancelled it online via Buy.com AND google checkout, sent messages requesting cancellation, and called to verify the order had been cancelled. I was informed that it could take 2-4 business days for the credit to appear. Another week later, no credit. My credit card company has temporarily credited my account upon my filing a claim of a fraudulent charge.
So, to my fellow hot deal seekers ... good luck with Buy.com. If you manage to get your Visiontek HD shipped to you, congrats. I hope for the best, but I will be spending my money elsewhere.

They charged me SECONDS after I placed the order - not just an authorization, an actual charge, and they STILL have my money.
As for the opinion on the 38XX series, I agree. We're about to see some new developments on the horizon. With new tech coming out, the current tech will stabilize, prices will drop, supply and support should increase a tad, too. Hence, I'm waiting for my 8800GT SLI situation to become a bit closer to MSRP ...
Still can't deny the current value of price/performance ratio on the 38XX series cards vs. current nVidia card prices. This is a pretty competitive deal for someone who needs a great midrange card with new technology, or wants to jump into an HDCP hi-def ready system and still be able to game on it. $222 isn't to bad for a card that provides all that, and is actually cooler and less power hungry than the 8800GT/GTS counterparts.

Likewise, good to see others are informed, guess I was a  when my first post here, had a  on what I figured was pretty clear. I suppose I am critical because I like sticking around in one forum, so I want to make sure, the [H] forums is the place for me. Although I own a func pad hehehe ;).
As far as buy.com, I bought alot of stuff from them, I always got my order. The problem I had was more of an annoyance. I bought a product in stock, then its magically wasn't in stock, and got an email saying I would not be charged, and only charged when it shipped. Then I got an email saying it was in stock, but still didn't ship, a month and a half later, my order goes through. Keep in mind this is my bad experience, the other times it was ok. Also Buy.com loves changing prices on demand. I found myself buying products for lower, than they were hours after I bought it. AKA I bought this item, I knew was a good deal for $10, in hours or a day or so, the same item was $12. I don't like that. As it makes me do alot of research prior to making a purchase, and gives me more work. The other time, was an item never came back in stock... To my knowledge, I wasn't charged for what I didn't recieve, but it was an annoyance dealing with it. I don't bother with customer service, so can't voulch for that.
My latest purchase was in Christmas, and it came in fine, and I got my item for the lowest price anywhere. But be prepared to research , look at deals, and pull the trigger.
My final verdict, I would say its safe to order from buy.com, though I feel for you SirKronan, as stuff like that doesn't surprise me, and since they mass sell, the little people get shuffled, and honestly they don't care heh.
Though I wouldn't buy any 38XX series, right now, UNLESS, you really need a graphics card, It won't be a bad purchase, but I personally hate buying a product, and knowing I lost money on that purchase, if I just didn't wait a little. Cost/Benefit * disposable income ;)

damn, this turned into a bash-buy.com-thread. :(
I haven't had any problems with buy.com, spent a few hundred there. This is an awesome price for a great video card. Sure it will go down in price in time, what doesn't? Get the card now if you need it, otherwise you'll just be moaning that you didn't buy it in 2 months when something else comes along.
Thanks for the find, OP!

I had similar issues with buy.com. Last year, I ordered mx revolution as Christmas gift. Ordered at the end of November, giving my self lots of time to be delivered. On December 15th I still did not have the mouse, tracking info said only "billing info received". After multiple calls and lots of BS, I received the mouse after new year.... Since then, I don't buy anything through them I rather pay few extra $ than spending hours on the phone later. It is just not worth it.

BTW, if you see a price other than $233, make sure you're one the page for the Buy.com card and are not looking at one of the "also available from..." pages.

Anyone know about how long the wait would be. I was able to place an order for 212 shipped by getting the buy.com CC. Thinking of just canceling and ordering a 3850 for my brothers build. He doesn't game much so I think it would be good.
How much better is the 3870 over 3850 anyhow?
