View Full Version : CompUSA Closing Clearance Deals

I figured i would open this thread up again now that the deals seems to be warming up. I checked out my local CompUSA and although most things are not worth while at this point i did see a few things that are really starting to warm up. For example cell phones were now 40% off. Sure you can get a better deal when you sign up for new service, but this is a [H]ot Deal if you are in contract and want to upgrade.
Lets try to keep things on target with this thread so it doesnt get closed again by only posting the deals that are warming up
DO NOT USE THIS THREAD TO COMPLAIN ABOUT ANY PERCIEVED LACK OF DISCOUNTS. ONLY POST [H]OT DEALS YOU HAVE SEEN AT YOUR LOCAL COMPUSA

Yes you need to log in and have gotten an email invite.
Sorry just noticed that it's for Beta testers or MSDN and by email invite only. I got the email at the beginning of the month and didn't remember, I just book marked the site in case I got to build a Vista machine, which as luck would have happened.

They have some FreeBSD books for 30%
Slingbox Pro $225 -25% = about $180 with GA taxes. Amazon.com has it for $189.

I was in a local store yesterday, and they had bumped software to 15% off. Vista Home Premium 32-bit Upgrade was still $159 - 15%+tax.
Oh, and I asked 1 of the folks if they would price match to any local B&M competitor on in-store/in-stock product? Reply came back as"Nope", which seems odd if they're looking to clear inventory. They stated the intended "doors closing" day will be in the 2nd week of Feb.

While I agree with you to an extent, I was sad to see the other thread go. I really enjoy the up-to-date notifications people provide on discounts and drops at their local stores. Since this is a liquidation, product availability at stores is very different, so creating a single thread for each deal that comes along seems extremely YMMV.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful, I'm just providing a different point of view. :D

See that is a perfect example of YMMV. My local store has quite a few high end blackberry and PDA phones left. I am waiting a bit longer for a nokia e62 since i have heard less than stellar reviews in terms of its performance as a s60 device, and i already have my n95. But it would be nice to have a non camera phone for when i have to go into courthouses for work.

That's not at all what he's saying. He's saying DONT post "Compusa sucks" or "theres no good deals" or "this is 20% off but still costs more money that xxxxxx retailer". He's also saying DO post if you find a good deal. Thus, consolidating into one thread with only good deals posted. Whiny posts, including this one (sorry), are off-topic and will lead to this thread getting trashed.

Today I got an APC SurgeArrest out the door for ~$25--about half of what it is on NewEgg. They had some cool stuff that was cheap, but most of it was overpriced and then discounted. There are still some good deals, just not what you would expect.
I also saw an HP w2207 for $300, but it was an Innolux panel. If it were Samsung, I would have snatched it. They had the HP w2007's for ~180, which is HOT if you ask me. All of their monitors were marked down quite a bit. Be sure to check for pixel problems before you buy, as all sales are final. Just FYI.
The store had been picked pretty clean, and almost no hard drives, video cards, or DIY stuff left.

I checked my store in Jacksonville, FL last night, and toner cartridges are 15% off. I checked what my HP 3800 cartridges would cost as opposed to ordering from Newegg, and they're only $4 more than the Newegg discounted price. If I bought a complete set (Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, Black), it's the same as Newegg with shipping ($12.39 to be exact), so I think that counts as a deal.
If it were 20% or more, obviously it'd be better, but who knows if the cartridges will be there at that point.

Printer ink is a good deal since prices don't range much between retailers/newegg. 20% off at my local one (picked up some more Epson T069 inks since they run out so fast.)
FWIW don't bother going over to the book section. They bought a whole bunch of books from some used bookstore and put new pricetags on it. They didn't take one of the tags off some MS training book - The tag from wherever they bought it said $2 and Compusa was asking $20.

I picked up an Ipod dock for $35. Not exactly smoking, but I thought it a pretty good deal since Apple stuff basically never goes on sale. All the ipod accessories were 30% off. I would have waited it out, but this was the dock at my store.
The only deals that I would call really good are on unlocked cell phones -- 40%.
I don't consider the Sprint/Verizon/Cingular phones hot yet because the 40% is off of the MSRP. Even at 40% most of the prices are still higher than what they cost when you sign a contract. However, if you're looking for an unlocked Nokia or HTC, this is a decent deal.
The only other thing I thought about buying was a store owned item -- a Viewsonic N4 scaler for $20.

Picked up some Sennheiser HD 465's for $33. (Not the greatest cans - but good enough for gaming and movies)
Stopped in tonight. I've been looking at picking up a couple of quad-core desktops for the video microscope and editing station in our lab. I've been keeping an eye on the systems at CompUSA looking to score a deal. As of right now, the CompUSA in Corpus Christi is still only offering a 5% discount on systems. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has seen better deals in their stores.

If anybody can find an ATT Tilt at a CompUSA for 40% off, I'd pay for shipping plus a little extra. I've called every one within 250 miles of me, and none are in stock.
Hope this isn't considered complaining about the lack of deals. My stores have the deals, just no stock.

LOL Yesterday there was a guy standing at the intersection by my house holding a big sign says Up to 30% off whole store at CompUSA. I live about 4 miles from a CompUSA LOL WTF is this guy doing by my house?!?!?
I did go there, was on my way anyway to check for hard drives, they were sold out of pretty much everything, store was packed could barely find a place to park! Best deal is on the used displays and TV's. I was looking at an Apple Cinema display but only 5% off other displays are much better deals at 20% off but not a large selection left. Also there is still huge selection of printer ink for 15% off.
Anyways I think they are at the point of haggling prices as everywhere I went there were sales people and customers doing counter offers back and forth on items. Did not actually try it myself but If your looking for deals I suggest haggling, it seemed to be working well for other people.

That makes sense and I wouldn't be surprised if some dot-com company added compusa.com to their site (even as a wholly-owned subsidiary). Speaking of banners, I wanted to post these pics in that other thread, but didn't get a chance before a moderator closed it. So here it is for all of your viewing pleasure. I took them in them in the Mt. Laurel, NJ store on Fri., 12/21/07.

I just got back from my local CompUSA in upstate NY and they had 15-30% everything in the store. Although most of the items are 15% (up from 10%) I did notice all power supplies were 25% off. There were a lot of "LAST ONE" items on the floor. Most of their remaining TV's were all floor models. My favorite was the Zenith 50" plasma with 3 3 inch rows of what looked like scratches in the screen. Asking price was $1200. I saw a Gateway 22" LCD (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8550579&type=product&id=1188560797509) for $297 (last one) and the 24" Model (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8550588&type=product&id=1188560797577) for $467. I really liked the 24" screen. I will have to monitor the price drop of this monitor :p.
I was going to buy this controller (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826127209) for $39.99 (not including 15% off) but it was the last one and it was only the controller, no USB receiver.
I bought this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826280008) for $18.35.
Quite frankly 15% off isn't that great of a deal.

The store here in Georgia had games 15% off as well. I bought the Dark Messiah game. I could of saved a dollar if I just bought it from Steam when it was on sale for 17.95 a week ago. I have the DVD now and it's attached to steam so I can get the updates. The PC games are dwindling down.
All of the Raptor drives were gone but they had some WD 320GB and 500Gb available at 15% off. I was thinking about getting the Sling Box pro for 225 - 25% off but the percentage will have to be less. By then I am sure it will be purchased.
15% of print cartridges. That's a decent deal. 25% will be even better. The books are still at 15% off so I'll wait until they are 50% to pick up one last book.
I am still waiting for the network gear and webcams to drop in price too. It's still at 15% off. So I may check in on Wed to see how things are doing.

It is the same way in Nashville, TN. I have been driving over to it a couple times a week and have been disappointed that the sales haven't changed in a while. There is a lot of inventory, and I saw even more being put on the shelves today (mainly network gear).
Once they get to 50% (if it happens), I will be more inclined to buy stuff. Right now, it just isn't a big incentive.

Yeah exactly. And I work about 5mins from mine so I plan on taking weekly trips there on lunch to see what is going on. Bought a 34" (why do they make these in such weird increments) SATA cable for $8 after tax, needed it for my rig and didnt feel like ordering it from Monoprice. My roommate runs a video production company, when the Fairfax, VA store closed, he bought out all of the high-grade RCA & S-VIDEO cables they had run between the TVs and such. When he first went in, he talked to some douche bag sales person who said they wanted like $500 for it; he asked to talk to the manager, the sales guy kind of scoffed. He pointed out to the manager that no consumer would buy 150' runs of cable, she agreed, he walked out with 15-20 runs of 50'-150' cables, for $200. All of it was in good shape, since it really hadn't been messed with, since they installed it.
If you want a good deal and the sales guy is being a douche bag, talk to the manager, especially if it is something weird.

I almost bit the bullet on a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L they have for 87.99. Almost. With tax it would have been comparable to the lowest price online plus shipping.
I checked the revision...1.0. I don't know if there is a newer one, but I'd prefer it if there is. Plus, if the board dies, I'd rather be able to go to Newegg or Mwave rather than go straight to Gigabyte.
Also am seriously considering an XBOX 360 Arcade they had for ~$235.

The press release just said 16stores, + the website.
I was kind of hoping for others around the US, since now we have squat where I am (yeah in Downtown SF)
It was nice that this store is only 3blocks from where I live

I think I'll check the one in Westminster, CO to see if there's anything of interest. I lived through the closing of the Henderson, NV store and it was kinda sad. The sales staff didn't know what they could/couldn't negotiate on and so I ended up not buying much in the sale.
Please let us know if you find anything interesting - there's lots of CO folks on these here boards.

I intended to go last night but got stuck working on a design (I work at Xilinx in Longmont) and didn't get to leave work until well after 6:00p. I should be leaving earlier today and I'll stop by and post my findings.

Did you try the one in Franklin?
No, just the one in 100 Oaks.

I went today, and the only difference I saw was that books are now 40% off instead of 30%. I did find out that game guides are not considered books, and their discount is now 30% instead of 15%.

What about monitors? Did they raise the discount today? I was thinking of buying a new monitor but when I stopped in this past Saturday, prices were still too high with the 15% off discount. I was hoping for a drop today.

AcademyGamers.com has a monthly(-ish) free LAN down in CO Springs - it's good stuff. There's one this weekend, check it out!
\on topic: Shame about the one on CO Blvd... is the one in Boulder still open? The manager there was a real PITA when I tried to pricematch Crysis to CC when it first came out, so I'm kinda glad they're getting shut down.

just got back from Westminster, CO. Nothing really of note. Most things are still about 15% off. I didn't notice any items in the upper range of their current discount spread (30%).
BTW, anyone know about this LOKI game for PC? It's an RPG based in Nordic mythology. The story and box pics looked kinda neat. Wanted to know if it is worth it before I invest.

Gamespot Review: 7 / 10 (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/loki/)
Even though the Diablo formula may seem awfully ho-hum these days--especially in this case, since Titan Quest covered the mythological-heroes shtick over a year ago--good mechanics and great atmosphere make up for the lack of innovation.
...
All told, Loki is one of those rare, totally derivative pleasures. A game that will inspire a lot of déjà vu but very little boredom.
Side Note: Thanks for taking the time to go look!

Same at the Goleta, CA store. A couple Corsair 620HX's left and Coolermaster 850/1000W.

Laptops went from 5% to 7% off today... Big Whoop but I saw other things jump from 20% last week to 30% this week so some of you may want to go check what's in store for you :D

The only things that I thought were good deals were the bulk items. At my store they had screen protectors, screen wipes, photo paper, and a few other things for 50 cents to a dollar per pack. I bought several of each.

Applecare is still 20% off if you want to buy an extended warranty for an iPod, etc.
$47.99 and no tax for the iPod Classic. Cheaper than Amazon by $2 and most ebay prices.
Maybe some interest to some..
620HX is marked as ~$118 in the Huntsville store. Somehow my dad got his for 115 a few weeks ago. So I guess don't always trust the tags heh.
Checked in on the Corpus Christ store again today... things other than networking are looking like they are starting to clear out.
Desktops still only 5% off.
620HX was marked at $149 with 15% off. Saw 3 on the shelf.
BFG 8800 GTS 512 (old cooler) was listed at $399 with 15% off. 1 left
BFG 8800 GTS(OC) 640 was listed at $479 . 6 left
Crysis listed at $49.99 and marked 15% off. At least 6 copies left.
+ other assorted stuff

I must have passed you in the aisles! :D
Agreed, not much reason to get out my wallet. :(
I asked about the Boulder store - clerk said it looks about the same as Westminster (I other words, not worth the 20 mile drive).

You very well may have. I was the guy at the service desk getting the run around about a reprinting a receipt. One thing I most certainly will not miss is their incompetence.

I was at the one in West Palm Beach, Florida yesterday. They have cleared much of the store since 2 weeks ago. Any clearance TVs and motherboards up front are gone. The whole apple section and keyboard, mouses are gone from the back left. There are still TVs and some Monitors left along with some keyboards and mice near the games on the left. Not much console games left. Plenty of software and some good PC Games. No Bioshock or UT3 to be found though :(. Crysis, COD4,etc they still have. %15 off PC games %30 off PSUs. Most cases are being marked up and then marked down so no deals there.

I bought a Antec Earthwatts 430Watt PSU for $62.99 + tax yesterday. Seeing as how that's almost what you would pay at Newegg ($2.99 less at the 'egg), that's not too bad a deal. This was in the South Dayton (Miamisburg) store in OH.

As of a few days ago, still very small discounts in the Austin, TX store...I don't recall anything more than 20% off. I marvel at how bad thier prices are. 15-20$ for a 120mm fan? Yikes!

I was at the store in Aurora, CO last night. Saw the power supplies are 30% off. The only PSU that grabbed my attention is the Corsair HX620 and Antec TruePower Quattro 850 . I might get the HX620 but I'm not sure what is the initial price before the 30%, it might be $169 or $179.
I wonder how much lower it's going to go. I wanted a new LCD but when I was there last night almost everything is gone except for a couple of Envision 24" for about $300. I'm trying to do some research right now to see if it's worth getting.
Also, if a monitor is on display with a yellow tag that says 30% off and there's now new model in a box underneath it that mean the display model is for sale and they don't have any new one in the back somewhere right? I saw this Viewsonic 22" that I wanted but there's no new one there and I couldn't find someone to ask if they have any new on in the back somewhere.

At my compusa, the tags state whether or not the LCD/TV on display is the last one or not.

Now that the Systemax purchase is official, anyone know if we'll see the steeper discounts? When the store in Henderson, NV closed the copies of Windows Vista got up to ~25% off. If it gets that steep here then I might take the plunge on Vista.

I went my local CompUSA yesterday (near Mark Meadows Mall) and there wasn't anything good at all.
Actually, I think I would find better priced items if I went to MicroCenter. :/

Was at the area, so I thought I stop by. Interesting that suddenly it has 3 8800GTX for $550. It was sold out like several weeks ago. Also noticed they have more vid cards of other kinds that I never seen. They usually have small selections. Are they adding more into their stocks?
Discounts for vid cards are 15%, PSU 30% at Lexington, KY.

Prices are still around 15% off in my neck of the woods. Almost everything is sold out too, which is surprising.

place is mostly cleaned out (at 30% off still being max deals) in St. Petersburg FL Compusa except printers, AMD 9500's (at $229) and Intel Q6600 (@ $249), these are of course the sale prices. Ink is close to a good deal, but little of the popular ones left.

Another 6 pages of the same 'no decent deals' and 'nothing at my store'. I haven't seen a Hot Deal posted in any of these threads to be noteworthy. Give it a rest and let it die. If something turns up as a killer deal, start a new thread....but it had better be a good one.
