***THIS IS THE SINGLE CORE 3800, NOT THE X2***

I was in the Irving (TX) Fry's today, and couldn't resist. They had Athlon 64 3800s for $10

Mine was new, in the retail box.

Give that aging S939 platform a kick in the pants, or pick one up as a spare.

All the cheap CPUs were already sold out at my local Fry's today. :( I did manage to get 4 good CPU deals earlier in the week: an E6600 for $70, 2 retail boxed Pentium 4 541 CPUs for $10 each and one retail A64 3500+ AM2 for $15.

No offense, if you can don't go for the single core, go for the dual core or X2 upgrade for your 939. While you may have a noticeable difference with the 3800+ you'll really notice it with the X2. My motherboard didn't mention it could support the X2 family of processors, but I took a chance since I was offered a X2 for a steal last year and it turned out better then I could of ever imagined. This was after my initial upgrade from a 3200+ to a 4000+.

I've long since upgraded to dual core, but I thought that someone would like the chance to grab a bargain basement priced upgrade. I bought one strictly as a backup, or in case another 939 motherboard lands in my lap.

I know, it is a good deal. Never hurts to have one as a backup and this is a good price. $10 bucks is great, but for $40 bucks you can get a dual core 3800 or 4200 and you'd be squeezing alot more life outta your (I'm gonna get it for saying this) aging 939 system.

A single core 3800+ is more than adaquate for most people, even for cheapskate gamers.

Fry's in Las Vegas was all sold out.

I picked up a AM2 3500+ for $15 just for kicks though.

I picked up a AM2 3500+ for $15 just for kicks though.I couldn't pass that up either. I also snagged a NF4 AM2 board for $10.

With DDR2 and PCI-E cards so cheap compared to DDR1 and AGP cards, it's hard to fault choosing AM2 over S939.

Just a word of caution, you will have a difficult time finding one of these. The employees knew about it long before you. :p

if I had an old 939 platform kicking around, I'd have loved to grab one of these just to blow up. Mmmmm
