Wow thats a great price. Thats what i paid for my Acer 24" a few months ago. Might be time to pick up a 2nd 24" and replace my ailing 20" viewsonic. Anyone know if there are going to be 12% coupons this weekend?

8ms response time....

It's an MVA panel, not TN.

I believe these were also on sale last week for this price, a nice enough looking monitor from what I could tell. But I wanted pivot so I went for a Gateway 2485w for $60 more. They appeared to have similar picture quality with different option choices.

Saw this in BB, but it wasn't on so I couldn't see the quality of it :(

If it was a glossy screen, I'd be all over it.

Good deal and you don't have to deal with newegg's dead/stuck pixel policy.

Whats BB dead pixel policy? Better than the egg?

No height adjustment? That's a notable setback.

Within 14 days you can return it because you thought it smelled funny. They don't really ask a lot of questions.

Why is the MVA panel better?

Better colors and viewing angles than TNs.

heres the rest.

My old viewsonic 20" was only 8ms and it doesnt ghost at all. I think i'm going to pick this up this weekend. You can still get the 10% coupons from the post office right?

GlimmerMan

It used to be that 16ms was good enough for gaming.
My Dell 2001 is 12ms, I don't notice any ghosting.
I would definitely get this over any 2ms TN panel. This is better for HD movies also

So what would be the better deal, this being MVA, or trying for one of the Soyos, which are supposed to be ips.

I guarantee you won't regret it. :)

@Matrices, you can always buy a monitor arm at Geeks.com for $35. That's what I'm going to do.

So what would be the better deal, this being MVA, or trying for one of the Soyos, which are supposed to be ips.

I thought the SOYO was a P-MVA panel?

This, because the Soyo is not IPS. It's either MVA or TN depending on how lucky you are.

Very little if anything. My Dell 2005FPW is 12ms, IIRC, and I surely don't notice any ghosting. A friend's NIC monitor has 16ms and it's just gross.

Picked one up last week for $371 including tax. Excellent screen. Zero dead / stuck pixels, nice colours, so bright it almost burned out my eyes... (Set brightness to ~50%)

Ten times better than the 20" Viewsonic it replaced. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't go to sleep when using HDMI.

EDIT:

I don't see that computer monitors are covered by the Post Office coupon. Can someone confirm if they were successful in using said coupon with this purchase?

I swung by the post office, and its the same coupon i linked a few posts back. Doesnt say monitors, but it says "computer accesories" and doesnt have monitors listed in the excluded section, so at best it works, at worst it doesnt. Cant hurt to try though.

But they always say the coupons are only valid for non-sale items...I have never gotten one to stack on top of an existing sale.

I have this monitor... no buzzing. Plus, for the people who do have buzzing, it normally only bothers them if their PC is absolutely silent (otherwise they can't hear it).

SolidBladez
03-07-2008, 05:14 PM
The buzzing only occurs once you set the brightness below 98. I have mine at around 60 or so but I rarely ever hear the buzzing. It's almost like a faint sound that you really have to focus hard to hear it.

Luckily my basement gets noisy when the heater turns on, so I rarely ever hear it. :)

Just curious, where did you find the 2485w?

It was at Best Buy also. I don't know if it was a good deal or not as it was a floor model on closeout but I managed to get them down to $410. It had the features I was looking for and looks fairly good so far. I'm running it through the paces right now deciding whether or not to keep it. So far no dead pixels but some visible splotchiness in upper right corner when viewed in dark room on black background. I don't much like the tone in Black and White movies, it's a bit too warm for my tastes and I can't adjust it out, but then I'm comparing it to a $2000 Sony 46W. I might be asking too much ;)

Through a TV tuner or cable box? If through a tuner you can use a colorvision spyder to calibrate it.

Sorry for the hijack i'll keep it short.

Sony upconverting DVD player component out. I tried playing directly from computer through DVI and it looked the same. I fear it's just the nature of panel. It isn't horrible it just gives the films a warmer almost sepia look as opposed to the Sony TV which is sharper and colder.

It's at Sam's Club for $330 any day you want it. After tax, its $350ish, so thats a better deal....

And this screen owns. it has a ton of inputs. quality is great, but then again, i've never had 'top of the line'

350 * .9 = 315.00 (+ tax).

If you have a reward zone card and one of th e12% off coupons (my local store literally handed me a photocopied coupon when I walked thorugh the door this afternoon), then it's only 308.00 + tax.

Anyway you look at it, you can currently get it for less at Best Buy.

Tomorrow is a different story ;)

^^ At BB?? I picked one up last night at the $349 price.

So.. overnight use mini-review.. beautiful monitor. Bright crisp colors and no noticable "buzzing" on mine. Stand is plastic.. but holds the weight fine. Has tilt but no height adjustment. Not sure why some were complaining there. You will need a DVI to HDMI converter as it has no DVI input. And if you use the HDMI.. the monitor does not shut off with your computer... blue screen. Gotta use the power button. Played WOW for a few hours... no ghosting to be seen. Thats about it so far.

Picked one up today, gotta say it's a great monitor for the price. Looked a lot better than the TN Samsung they had next to it. Mine has the buzzing too but I did the contrast work around and it works great now. The 10% off wouldn't work at the store I went to so I'm gonna try and go back to a different one to get a price adjustment.

BB i went to friday only had 1 left and it was the display. And it was only on sale for 349 open box. Ended up picking up the Soyo from Officemax for 259 + tax instead as the lack of DVI kind of killed it for me.

If anyone is still after a good 24" you might try Circuit City. I stopped by on the off chance they had the LG around that is the deal of the day. They didn't have any of those left but they did have another Gateway FPD2485w as a floor model. I asked if they wanted to part with it and they said sure. They offered monitor and accompanying sound bar for ~$234. I thought this was a pretty good a deal, at least comparable with the LG, and couldn't pass it up. I now have 3 days to decide if I want to return the 2485w I bought from BB last week for $410 or keep dual 24's. This second one looks at least as nice as the first one and is a March production model with slightly newer Firmware than the BB version which was January. Temptation is an awful thing and it's not going to be easy to go back to 1 screen after 2 days of duallies.
