View Full Version : LG L246WP 24" LCD $278 at CC B&M

This is probably the hottest LCD deal this year! This monitor is not a budget monitor like the 24" Acer, Westinghouse, and Soyo. This is a high end monitor with a P-MVA panel and a lot of features from one of the best names in the business.

It's currently selling for $619 at Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005099&Tpk=l246wp), so this is a downright STEAL! I suggest you hurry and get one before they're gone. It was recently discontinued and I assume they put it on clearance to make way for a new model sometime soon.

Mine came to $294.64 after tax.

B&M = Brick & Mortar. Which more than likely means YMMV = "your mileage may vary".

He probably can't link it as it's an in-store clearance type deal. Would've been nice to scan and post the receipt so those who go for it could try to price match if necessary, though.

There's a link to the specs at Newegg in my original post, but no link to Circuit City because they only have it in store, not online.

This is NOT YMMV. As confirmed in the displays forum, this deal is EVERYWHERE (unless they're already out of stock).

This is NOT a floor model.

Lol this deal is so good none of you believe me. I'll try to upload the receipt here soon.

If I had an extra $300 in cash I might run a half hour tomorrow to check it out but unfortunately I don't. Had to buy a new mobo for one of my folding boxen and a heatsink/fan for my main system. Too bad a good chunk of the $150 I got for my old Koolance went for the Ultra 120 extreme. Otherwise, I'd be halfway to another 24" screen. Dual 24"s would look nice on my desk and I could retire another one of the 17" CRTs.

The only reason your local store might not have them is because they already sold out. I have confirmed the deal with two stores in my area and a couple other people in this thread have confirmed the deal as well.

Most of the smaller Best Buys never carried this monitor at all. It was usually only carried in the large metro area stores only. They are a clearance item to make way for the new model. Here's the new one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8739378&type=product&id=1201913868031

Great monitor. I bought one for my son for Christmas and it is very nice.

Hmm... All four Best Buys in my area carried these, but like you said, I'm in a large metro area. All the Circuit Cities in my area seem to carry these too... for the moment.

The funny thing is the "new" one is TN, making it a step backwards in quality compared to this one.

They're probably saying this because the model was just discontinued, which is why they're on clearance now, and they probably won't be stocking any more LGs in the future.

Actually there is a CC in the woodlands. I used to have to drive from huntsville to get to any big box retailer when i lived in texas.

So this doesnt have DVI or does it. The web pages says it has DVI but then mentions hdmi > dvi. I'm confused. Guess its still worth checking if they have one at the local CC on my way home. The only thing i dislike about the soyo is that the stand doesnt adjust. Really would like it to tilt.

The monitor only has HDMI, VGA, and Component.

It comes with a VGA, HDMI, and a DVI to HDMI cable though. Go to the display section of the forum. There is a giant thread about the 245, which is pretty much the 246.

It definitely is worth it from what I've read.

I'd suggest actually going down physically to the stores.

Some people you speak with may not even know what product you're speaking about, even if they're supposed to know, and then give you an incorrect answer. And, sometimes they do know what they're speaking about, but may not even know there are more in the back. It's happened quite a few times to me. Go down, talk to them face to face, and make them check.

When asking CC employees to check if the monitor is in stock you may have to give the model number L246WPBN. I went to two stores and they couldn't find L246WP at either. At the second store one of the guys working knew what I was looking for and he looked it up with the BN model number. Just thought that might help.

called the Circuit City store in Vermont and they said they did not have any LG monitors listed. Had him look up the model number as he offered to order it, and he said there aren't any LG monitors listed there either... Vermont is small potatoes, so maybe that would be why I can never get the in-store deals. Heck, the Best Buy in this area just started selling the 8800gt...

This monitor is HDCP compliant. The new in box ones come with a sticker that says "Windows Vista Ready", and I've seen other places that it has HDCP. Also, someone earlier in the thread has successfully played Blu Rays on it.

Ahh! Thanks for clarifying that. Stupid lying newegg. My monitor did have a sticker that said windows vista ready, but i didn't know that meant HDCP. I thought it just meant that it works in vista haha.

My local store was out but they checked some surrounding stores for me and were able to find one. I bought it at the store near me for pickup at the other store and then went to get it right after. It's now sitting next to my desk, eagerly awaiting unboxing and setup tomorrow. I'm very excited about that. :D

Thank for posting this deal, it really helped me out. Now if I could just find another one.....

The combination of a few 4-midnight shifts in a row working outside, 3 straight nights out drinking with guys from work, a pancake dinner fundraiser with a house full of sorority girls, not bothering to sleep, a computer that only boots when it wants to, and needing to be up at 6AM to head back to my real job in the morning finally did me in. :(

I know, I am weak. ;)

Nope, last one.

Correct.

Yes, my impressions exactly. Once I set it on my desk, I was astounded at how large it looks. Its a very nice panel I have fallen in love with it, I was originally going to sell it for a quick couple hundred dollars profit, but I can't bring myself to take it off my desk.

The stand is GREAT, by far the best LCD stand I have ever come across, which just makes the already great LCD even better. Best $260 I've ever spent in my life.

yeah I really cant justify selling it. Even if I don't make it my primary monitor its well worth the money i spent on it.

I think I found an opened box for $216.xx but they can't find it. I'm going to call them back again today to see if they found it. The sales guy said the warehouse guy hasn't seen an "LG monitor in store for months."

He did say it would still carry the full manufacture warranty as well as CC's standard return policy.

This is true, it will still carry a warranty from CC for i believe 14 days, then you have a 3 year from LG.

I called CC back and was put on hold for 30 minutes. I hung up and called back 15 minutes later. They found their last open box. I drove a little over an hour, ~45 miles away, to go look at it. They didn't have a stand for it! So we took a look at their VESA wall mounts and universal stands but I didn't want to mount it in the wall nor would their universal stands work.

The employee tried to look on LG's website for replacements parts and I called LG. About $85 bucks for the pieces. So it still wasn't took bad of a deal, out the door for $230 plus $85 or so to order the stand.

I thought I wasn't even going to be able to use it until I get the stand but I have an older Dell 18" and its stand works as a temporary solution. I could only mount in two of the bolts but it works for now.

It is gorgeous and such a good deal. You can barely find decent 22" for under $300.

Now its time to start doing more photography work as I have a lot more pixels to view at once!
