Hi!

We wanted to offer [H] readers deals on our luxury performance computers. If you’re not familiar with MAINGEAR, let me recap our experience with [H].

[H] Consumer bought four systems for evaluation, and in 2006 we won Best Boutique Integrator (http://consumer.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTIzNiw1LCxobmV3cw==) and Best Technical Support (http://consumer.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTIzNiwzLCxoY29uc3VtZXI=)awards, besting 26 other boutiques and OEMs. We are grateful to [H] readers for their business and their referrals, and we have come up with some discounts to show our gratitude.

First off – if you’re in the mood to buy a small car but instead would like a gaming machine, we’re offering $1000 off our overclocked (4GHz), watercooled EPHEX SKULLTRAIL (http://www.maingear.com/boutique/pc/configurePrd.asp?idproduct=815) system.

Coupon code: hardskull1000

Next, if you’d rather not spend a small fortune on the bleeding edge, the rest of our EPHEX (http://www.maingear.com/Products/Desktops/Ephex/) systems are $500 off with this coupon:

Coupon code: hardephex500

Finally, if you’d like to take a gander at our more affordable F131 (http://www.maingear.com/Products/Desktops/F131/) line, we’re offering 5% off the configuration of your choice.

Coupon code: hardocp5

And, our Dash Friends and Family PC (http://www.maingear.com/Products/Desktops/Dash/)is $75 off.

All coupons end March 25th.

Thank you so much for your support of MAINGEAR over the years!

Dual QX9775s and dual 3870X2s? that's exactly what'd I'd expect and a hell of a lot cheaper than some chum would pay at dell or alienware and the like for a comparable system (which they probably don't offer) not to mention he's offering $1k off!

Sounds like an opinion. Imagine if you could spend that money on a machine and not bat an eye. The question is, would you then?

Also, I don't think you can "waist money".

It's a luxury item backed by some of the best support in the industry and a first class paint job and is hand made. Like virtually everything else in life that is a luxury, you pay a premium for it.

I was pricing out some systems recently.
A dell xps 720hc, fully loaded was over 7k.
Dell XPS 1730 WoW edition, fully loaded was over 9k.
This being a top of the line system with everything, plus the 1k off, is extremely reasonable for what it is, GL to MG on selling lots of them!

Not that I'm advocating spending this kind of money on a computer...

But look at luxury car leases and figure out how much you're paying a year for something that you don't even own. (hint, 36 month leases for BMWs run $370-$750/month depending on what you're leasing)

It's the same mindset.

Well, I guess with the exception that your computer isn't a status symbol the same way your car is.

CPU: N/A - $1,619.29
CPU2: N/A - $1,619.29
Watercooling: N/A - $500.00
Ram: $316.00 - $304.00
DVD burner: $48.00- $27.00

What memory are you guys using in the Maingear EPHEX system? I know the specs say 800MHz FB-DIMMs, but I've had a hard time finding such modules outside of the Apple X-Serve and Mac Pro modules that have huge ass heatsinks on them.

Holy cow you guys, I can’t believe some of the responses I’m seeing here…I’d hate to go shopping with you guys  It’s like walking into a Chevy / Ford / Dodge dealer and freaking out over the high end cars…totally ignoring the rest of the company’s products.

Why bitch about the $82,000 Corvette Z06 with all the trimmings when you are actually in the market for a $10,000 Chevy Aveo?

Why make a point of comparing a base model Corvette at $46k to a Z06 with every option for $82k…especially when you aren’t even in the market for one?

Anyhow, take a chill, and maybe appreciate the fact MAINGEAR is kicking downs some serious pricebreaks to [H] readers. I know I appreciate them offering you guys 5% - $1,000 off their products.

Indeed.

Though I will admit, I played with how much the maximum, all frills system would be, and I always do, but not so I can feel indignant. Rather, it's like checking out the going rate for a new Lotus Exige or a Porsche 911 GT2. I do it because it's fun to dream about having that sort of money.

Great deals, Maingear, and I love you all the more for it!

It's not something I'd buy, but no matter what, the machine isn't going to be obsolete in a year. I doubt it'd be obsolete in 3 years. You might want a newer machine, but these machines could definitely play games after 3 years....and if you really wanted better graphics, you could replace the video cards.

Too much for me (by a factor of 10, more than likely), but I wouldn't spend tons of cash tricking out a car, but I've had plenty of friends who did.

MG, your products are amazing, but far outside my price range (for now ;) )

I just wanted to say thank you for putting a 3gb max on any system that comes with a 32-bit OS. Too many OEms and even boutiques (like VM) let consumers buy 4.
Props. Mad props for honesty!

To be fair, though, on the 32-bit XP I'm typing this in right now (though I also have Vista 64 and 64-bit Linux), I can still use 3.5GB of the 4GB in my own computer. So you do get extra memory even if not the full 4GB, and with DDR2 being so cheap right now, I really don't see the point of sticking to 3 over 4. Now if the companies were to push 8GB with a 32-bit OS, I could see the complaint...

Both for price reasons and because I like to choose every single component in my system, I'm also not likely to be a customer of Maingear, but props to them for giving good deals to the [H] for those here that are likely to buy from them. :)

Any reason why computers like the maingear DASH don't come with winXP as an option? If I wanted to get a DASH, I'd have to also buy a copy of XP and go to all the trouble of wiping the HD and installing XP. If XP isn't an option, how about an option of shipping it without a OS for a small discount? Or maybe leaving the hard drive out entirely?

Some people find Vista usable, but I gave Vista a good solid 4 month tryout and came to the conclusion that I'd rather use winME than Vista. Not having XP as an option pretty much removes maingear from my list of potential vendors before I even start comparing features, performance, and price. If I have to buy and install XP separately, I might as well build the whole thing from scratch myself.

QX6700's won't fit in a SkullTrail - SkullTrail is socket 771 not Socket 775.

And it comes with 2 Raptors in RAID0.

SkullTrail also uses FB-DIMMS instead of regular DDR2 or DDR3
