This happened at Best Buy this sunday. They advertised it, and they had at least 100, but probably a lot more, at the one I was at. The doors opened at 11am, everyone buying a wii went to the left, they had all the games and controllers (including guitar hero) and the wiis stacked at each register. I got there at 10:45 and had a Wii with all the accessories I wanted out the door at 11:10. One per customer of course.

lol, there was a stack of them the other day at two Best Buy's I went to. (Westland, MI and Taylor, MI). Nobody was lined up to buy them or anything. This was at 3pm and they still had over a dozen left at each location. Are they really in that high of demand where I should be buying and re-selling? Honestly.. how much more are they selling for?

what time do the stores open?
8am. There will most likely be a line. Sometimes they actually hand out numbers, but it depends on the number of people.

Hot damn. Is that at least in reais? That would be around $700 in USD, which while still absurd, is better than a $1200 USD equivalent.

Last time I checked it broke down like...
Wii 1499 reais = $867
PS3 2199 reais = $1,272
8800 GT 1199 reais = $694
The only reason for this, is the government taxes all game/electronic products an obserd amount. PSX was never officially released in Brasil. Yet everyone has books of PSX CD's. Everything was/is pirated. The situation isnt going to change anytime soon either.

Why even release it there? Not to knock Brazil, but how many people could even afford that if they wanted to?

Cause in 2004 Microsoft had the entire country to itself.
Its still pretty pointless. You wont find games stores anywhere, cause its impossible to make money that way(cause of the taxes). So everyone buys pirated video games from the street vendors and play them on hacked/fake systems. The only time the market was healthy was in the 8-bit - 16-bit era. Nintendo didnt arrive till 93', so SEGA owned Brazil. It was the opposite of what happened here. People know Alex Kid more than Mario. Google/wiki 'Tec toy' if you want to know that story.
PSX killed the market. When Sony decided they werent going to release it, the market became 100% pirated. That killed everything and it has never recovered. And with the taxes, it never will.

Was the market considered healthy in the 8 bit and 16 bit era either? I thought by by Western standards there wasn't much point then either. But then again compared to now it probably makes NO SNESE (SIC) now either.

no it was 1800 reais :(
the 360 was about 2499 reais
the ps3 was 2999 reais.
Eek.
I brought my brother-in-law an xbox for $59 from gamestop, Forza for $4 used, motogp3 used for $15, fifa street for $10 (NEW) and a few other games for sub $10. He went nuts. He doesn't know anyone that has an xbox and thought it was an awesome present.

LOL... first time I have seen them in the wild in quite a while. Funny story, my mom was at a teachers job fair in So.Cal all last week and the other VP that she was with had a daughter in the area. Well they went to the daughters house one night and my mom noticed the Wii (she had never seen one or played it). Well they fired it up and 4hrs later had missed their dinner reservations.
Sunday morning mom is talking to me and my fiancee about it. I tell her "IF you think you want one just go buy it because more than likely they will be sold out pretty quickly." 30mins later we are at Target getting one for them (my rents are in their 60s) at which point 3 others of their remaining 8 were walking out too.
