i think this has been the standing price at clubit for a few months now, ever since the gPC's got popular and Via started selling these as development platforms for it.

great deal though, compared to the m-itx boards it's an absolute steal. almost got one myself but settled on an older C3 epia m-itx board

It's been a while but If I remember correctly I purchased a Via 1.2Ghz with 1GB of RAM as an upgrade for a Pentium 2 550mhz with 512mb of RAM for a friend of mine because it was so cheap and I figured it was a slight upgrade for a very aged system......

The Via 1.2 was slower in every benchmark I threw at it through Sisoft Sandra than the old P2.

I would avoid Via unless you can find some reputable things about this chipset -- their processors are slow, their memory controllers are horrible, and their overall system performance is slouchy at best.

It would make a good cheap smoothwall/m0n0wall/ipcop/pfsense router.
Just add a couple of network cards to it.

low power consumption is their main draw

It's been a while but If I remember correctly I purchased a Via 1.2Ghz Maybe it was the VIA "GigaPro 1.2GHz," which was actually an 800MHz CPU. I can vouch for the slowness of that model.

... Pentium 2 550mhz...

Pentium 3? Pentium 2's only went up to 450.

Either way, the Via would use 1/4 of the power of a Pentium 2, easily.
