I still have 24 1800's that have gone threw years of abuse in camera's and game boys..

Though I have no need for more AA's I will say NiMH batteries changed my view of rechargables.

I use a Duracell charger on Maxell 1850s. I'm pretty sure these things are standardized...

Thanks - decent reseller rating also!

My family eats batteries-we go through 10-20 AAs a week and around 8 AAAs. This is sure to save us $$$. Rechargeables are cool.

cool, I'm in.

it would take me forever to go through 24 batteries but I'll have no problem in selling some of these for $1.50 each.

From what I've seen and Google'd, NiMH AAs are 1.2V, compared to the 1.5V of common alkalines-does the difference in voltage affect compatiblity?

I've wondered about this in the past, but I've yet to encounter an issue. Does seem a little strange that rechargeables (AA in this case) haven't gotten up to 1.5V... I mean they've be around for what? Nearly 20 years?

I ordered a 24pk... almost ordered two... but figured I'd wait and see how well they work first. Here's to hoping. :)

I could be blowing smoke out my ass but i beleave that rechargeables can hold that 1.2v alot better then alcaline(sp) can at 1.5v. AKA they are at 1.5v till you put a load on them, then they drop, I know c cell nicads dont drop below 1.2v even with a load from a rc car that even pulls enough juice to get them warm/hot.

They will work, but you'll find yourself having to take them out and recharge them every 2 or 3 months (and that's being pretty generous timewise). NiMH rechargeables are meant for high drain situations and do lose their charge just sitting on a shelf or in a low drain device like a remote control or clock. For devices like these it's best to use normal alkaline cells. :)

NiMH cells are awesome for high drain devices like CD players, flashlights, digital cameras, remote control cars (the actual car, not the remote), etc. Anything that eats normal batteries like mad. In these kinds of devices a fully charged NiMH cell will usually last up to twice as long as an ordinary alkaline cell.

If you've got kids that just got a bunch of battery powered toys for christmas, buy a bunch of these NiMH batteries and a good quick charger. Not only will they love you for it but you'll love the money you save on batteries. :)

yup, I'll second that notion.

I gave up on trying to power my remote(s) with my NiMH batteries cuz I was having to recharge them like every other week which was too much work for me. :D

I just use regular Duracells in my remotes and they tend to last me like a good 5 or 6 months.

but for stuff like digi-cams and remote controlled cars and such, the NiMHs would win hands down. like you said above, they are meant for high drain applications where alkalines would take a dump pretty darn quickly.

If you don't need all 24 AAs, you can get 12 (2000mAh) AA and 12 (700mAh) AAA for $5 less:

http://www.batteryspace.com/product.asp?3=414

That's the pack I went with.

Different materials have different potentials.

Zink/carbon 1.5V, alkaline 1.5V, NiMH 1.2V, NiCad 1.2V, Lead/acid 2.0V, Lithium ion 3.6V , lithium 3V, silver oxide 1.6v, etc.

You can play with materials and knock voltage down on some batteries types (ie 1.5v lithiums).

Ordered on 12-31 and they arrived today (1-5) of course it helps that the package never had to leave CA. Don't know if anyone else mentioned this, but the batteries I received are gold colored 2,250mAH instead of the silver/gray 2,000 I ordered - not that I'm complaining. :)

If these things work, I should be set in the AA department for a long time to come.

BTW, from what I've seen w/ my remotes I'm completely inclined to agree that alkaline batteries must be ideal. Some of my remotes are still chugging away with their factory supplied AA's after several YEARS worth of use. Hell even the remote w/ illuminated buttons (for my Toshiba widescreen) is still on it's original set of Panasonic AA's that are 1.5years old. The batteries in my A/V equipment remotes are ~3 years old and still working fine. Silly as it may seem, I'm pretty shocked by this.

Anyway... :p

fastgeek

Alkaline batteries START at 1.5 volts. As they are used more they drop in voltage to finally ending at about 1.0 volts before they go dead. This is an average of 1.25 Volts. NiMH batteries stay at 1.2 volts till just before they go dead. So for the 2nd half of your alkaline battery's life, the NiMH rechargable has greater voltage.

And if you use extreme ammounts of batteries, this (http://www.batteryspace.com/product.asp?0=217&1=285&3=247) may be a better deal for you after using the coupon from the first post.

NiMH rechargable batteries are for power sucking devices like digital cameras and portable dvd players. After some time not being used ( or being used slowly as in the case in remotes and the like) they slowly loose their charge until they are empty. This is why alkaline are better in your remote :D .

Ok new topic. Nicads are good for 2000+ charges and love to be drained dead. Hell i put resistors on my bat packs when they go into storage cuz they love it that much. Now how about the nimh? I know the lithion ones you should treat like a car bat and not let them go totaly dead, or they will die after 100 discharges or so. At least thats what happened to all my note books. Now what about nimh? They dont have memory, but do they like or dislike going dead? How many times can you charge them?

Hehe, a good C cell nicad pack has a mha of 1700, These AA and AAA have even more storage. Wonder how the rc cars would like these. Of course all the bastards went to gas while i was in a coma called high school but hey, im not bitter. Little bastards still have mufflers, cant say that about half the cars in the neghborhood with the bling blings behind me.

As far as I know, no memory, means exactly that, each time you recharge, they should recharge fully, no matter what state they are in, never heard of anyone saying that draining them all the way is bad and can't see a reason myself that it would be bad.

maybe they are trying to get the word out that they are shipping better batteries than people order, and all of a sudden they "fix" it after a bunch of people have placed orders thinking they are getting the 2250mAh for the price of 2000mAh.

but thats just what I would do :D

also, if someone figures out a test, I can compare them to the 2100mAh Rayovacs and the 2250mAh Energizers

These 2250mah Powerizer ones being sent out hold a charge WAY longer than some 2100mah Energizers I bought from wal-mart.
THe energizer ones wouldn't last for more than a day without needing to be recharged. So far, the powerizers have gone for 3 days
(in my Logitech MX700 mouse, of course)

Would this battery charger be good for the 24pack? I want a battery tester that would charge more than 4 batteries but still be high quality.
