My brother has deleted some part of Java from his Win98se box, and now when he tries to run any kind of Java app, they don't work. We tried to go to add/remove and take out Java completely, and then went to the Sun site and got JRE 1.42.03 and installed it, but it still does not work. How do you install Java, or is it Java Virtual Machine, from the Win98 se disk?

I don't know if you can do it from the SE disc. There was an issue between microsoft and SUN not too long ago. What you can do however is go to java.sun.com and just download the latest version.

You can get the latest JRE from Sun which will work with both versions of 98

http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

or you can start with this link and work your way to the download ;)

Just do a dirty reinstall of 98SE or (and I may be wrong) get the latest update of VM from MS's site

MS no longer supports VM...too bad, I liked it except for the security holes you could drive a 16 wheeler through :p
