This was a mate of mine, who always escalates a "3 person LAN" to about 10 people in 2 rooms and heaps of beer. always get pretty messy. His parents just turn a blind eye and be quiet.

The pics arent up from last weekend yet. There are generally about 40 to 60 people there. Its not a "for profit" lan. Its for a server community. The admission price ($25 last time) goes towards raffle prizes.

I think there are some cases out there that have it built-in.

how do you get sponsors from places like newegg, xoxide, etc?

do you just call them up, tell them about some party and they send you stuff to raffle off like that?

It's not quite that easy for the bigger sponsors.

Some sponsors are easier than others though. It all depends on how prominent they want to be in the community.

For example:

ATI: Has an online form to fill out, the form is VERY detialed, even wanting to know how many systems have ATI cards. We fill the form out every other month, and have yet to get them to send anything.

nVidia: Has an online form, just the basics, and they send stuff almost every time.

Newegg: requires an account with sufficient activity, lots of references, and is easier to just call them up.

Shuttle: Requires each LAN to have X number of guests.

Ideazon: Has an online form, requires a logo to be displayed on the website, etc...

Each sponsor is different, so pay attention to their requirements. Also, some sponsors will sponsor you multiple times if they see your guests buying stuff from them.

and there should be a sticky thread about setting up a lan party, from a basic 5 person one, to tips on running your first big 100 person or 500 or 1000 person party.... I am willing to write up some stuff, as I host parties for anywhere from 10-30 friends regularly (yeah yeah I will post mypics soon! :p..you can see a few I have put up on my gallery at http://images.pyrospheric.net )
