No pics and nothing recent. But last year and year before last.
Monitors all working some with cracked cases mostly 15 inch and one 17 inch.
A dozen dead psu good for the fans in them and a few working at psus great for powering extra fans and the like kept 2 gave other 3 or 4 away. % or 6 identical computer case all damaged in dif ways sorry office max you need to do better next time.
Use to love finding 64 pin sims in edo back when it was worth 50 cents to a buck a meg (little more than a year ago) I made alot of money off that old ram. Now with p2s and 3s being converted over to firewall boxes the old 64 pin sims are near worthless o well fun while it lasted. Also not just dumpsters this was road side finds to.
I think the best road side find was at some rich guys house found a 36 inch big screen tv standard crt that was seemingly doa untill i pulled the back off and it had a fuse that was cracked and burnt. Sold the tv for about 350. Should have asked more thing wasnt fun to get home. Imagine this guy rideing on the trunk of a little k car holding on to a big screan tv on the roof going about 10 mph for about 18 miles :\ But wasnt no way we was leaving a big screen tv there.

Just last week I found a Gateway computer with matching 17" monitor next to the dumpster of my apartment complex. The computer is a 1.7GHz Celeron w/256MB RAM and 40GB hard drive. It would not boot into Windows when I retrieved it but a quick session with the recovery console and CHKDSK fixed that problem. The previous owner had left all his data (school reports, pr0n, etc) on it too!
Asides from being stained yellow and smelling of tobacco, the system was perfect. A few minutes with a Mr. Clean magic eraser got rid of the yellow tobacco stains!
Also, the monitor was working perfectly and it's always good to have a spare one lying around.
Besides the computer, the best thing I ever found whilst DD was a woking Panasonic VCR.

1 PowerMac 7100 upgraded to G3/240 and 136mb, after 3 months of use needs new HDD (I'll get to it someday)

Thought I hit the jackpot today....but no. I found a shitload of Windows XP cd's and boxs that look like they were used to install on machines in the store....but the fuckers didn't even give whoever they're selling these computers to the cd's, they just used snippers or something to cut one side so they are unusable and then threw everything in the trash  The foldouts even have the product keys and everything still on them, not blanked out. I checked but try as I might I couldn't find a cd that wasn't destroyed :( I did find some plastic wire shrouding (usefull for engine bay stuff) and a sample pack of hp photo paper though, so it wasn't a complete waste.

This is what my uncle found. He found it a local Game Crazy gaming store. I don't understand why anyone would trow away such a good xbox with Halo, a control, a demo disk , and all of the cords. As you can see the controller has a broken Joy stick and for some reason while I am trying to play Halo the guy dose not stop jumping. Other than that all it needs is a new controller.
Oh by the way, instead of throwing away the controller I am willing to give it away. Sorry but I will only give you the controller and not the other cable that connects to the xbox (I promised that to a good friend). 1st PM gets the controller.
Sorry, It's been taken.

7x17" CRT Monitors (working)
2x Oki Laser printers (one has bad drum, other works fine)
1x HP Ink-jet
I ended up giving it all away to friends as I didn't have a use for any of it. Someone swipped the 19" CRT I had hidden away for myself :(

What he means is that he can take apart his tablet pc so the the back light is gone and just the lcd can be seen from both sides, lay it over the overhead and voila an easy 3000+ lumons projector...
There was a guide to doing it properly on tom's hardware, basically use blocks to keep the screen from touching anything and place a fan to blow air between the overhead glass and lcd, otherwise the heat from the overhead would ruin the lcd.

Wow, I don't think he's going to take apart a tablet PC for this...
I think the "LCD Tablet" he's referring to is actually called a Transparecy Panel like those listed HERE (http://www.rentcom.com/catalog/LCD_Transparency_Panels.html)
He's not going to get the best performance out of the display, but it is cheap.

I'll have to post a pic later and someone might be able to help me with that. I'll have to make a venture out when it gets a little warmer, like above freezing.

Roar. I was at circuit city so I decided to check the dumpster. Well, I peeked in and found a 19" color TV that still works and a working scanner, Some BIG aluminium posters, and a PS/2 mouse. Pretty good for my second time dumpster diving. :p

After reading this thread I was inspired to do this myself, only place I could find was a staples but I eneded up finding 4 dvd-rws, a nice leather organizer, a few other things and two office chairs (one with massager) that I regretably had to leave behind since i was in my moms car. The chairs were slashed on the seat but other than that were in perfect shape! I should be going again very soon...

Haha that's awesome. I actually got a nice stack of porn mags from the hastings around here a couple years ago. :D Haven't come across any since, though. :( About a month ago they started putting a bar across the dumpster lids and locking it, but it seems they have since given up on that.
Anyway, to keep this post on topic, here are a few of the things I've found recently:
4 book MCSE training guides
MCSE networking essentials book
couple random cables
That's about it for the last couple weeks. Nothing good lately. My roommate just sold some piece of shit old keyboard he found on the side of the road for $120 on ebay! Crazy shit.

Beats the hell out of me. It was sitting at $.99 with 0 bids up until just before the auction ended. I've sold a few items I've found for > $100, but never anything as shitty as an old keyboard. Here it is:

At my apartment (didn't have to dive, I was taking out the trash already! :p ):
Sony Trinitron 17" CRT. Made in 1994 but works great! Some of the anti-glare is rubbed off but once I figure out how I'll just take the rest of it off.
Yamaha MIDI Keyboard - Saw one on eBay with missing battery cover go for >$100, so I'll probably try to clean it up and sell it.
PS2 Keyboard/Mouse - Ended up throwing these back away as I seem to have too many and didn't want to take the effort to clean them up.
2 Power Cables - Regular PC power cables. They're not worth much, but it's always nice to have a spare. These were brand new in baggies.
Nice finds for no effort. Turns out someone was moving so they were clearing stuff out that they didn't want to move.

I found that 3' x 3' Playstation Sign behind an Orland Park Gamestop peeping out of the dumpster!!!!
I literally STUFFED it in my Prelude and got it home.
The other side says "Nintendo 64"
Luckily I have a drop ceiling otherwise I would not know how to hang it. I would say it weighs a solid 50 pounds!!!!

PSYKOMANTIS, don't sh*t where you eat. If you go to a convention, which you enjoy, why would you steal something? The convention has the privledge of paying for what you stole, so the money, which you paid them to attend was paid back to the hotel for some stupid prank you pulled. Sure that plant probably seemed like a cheap POS, but the hotel probably charged the convention at least $50 for it.
Very uncool!

Hi Nash,
We are always bummed to see people stealing our stuff
at the events. That banner cost us $100. I know that it was just a party
favor to this guy but $100 is real money to a small company and it can
really add up. Even more than the money it is the insult that hurts. I
hope he didn't win any of the prizes we were dishing out, that would sting
extra hard.
If you have a chance pass along my comments, let him
know that this is totally not cool.
Regards,
Alan Payne

I was not the one who physically "lifted" the item.
It was given to me by a friend months after the trip. (whom mind you got me kicked out of my hotel in QC 04)
This is good because I will personally ship the item back to Gear Grip because you guys clearly pointed it out to me that it is wrong to have this.
Thanks for the heads up, and in no way did I mean to piss anybody off. :D

I don't consider myself a Dumpster Diver but.......
~20 years ago: Complete Honda 850cc Motorcycle. Required complete teardown and rebuild, but.... (Ditched and abandoned in a National Parkland... park ranger gave me permission to take it). Eventually sold it for ~$1200, but there was a lot of sweat equity put into it (and some real repair parts).
~15 years ago, but FOR WORK: Scrounged three working 286 machines, COMPLETE, out of castoffs from the base I worked on; computerized our entire office to prove WHY we needed them to buy us some REAL computers (about 1 year later). Boss told me to find 'em, so I did..... These were abandoned OUTSIDE in the weather, beside the trash, but I >DID< get a property pass to take them to our area. Don't know if this one counts....
~12 years ago: Garden Rake, Shovel (Neighborhood Garbage).
~11 years ago: Coffee table... needed some repairs, but only finally fell apart last year.
~10 years ago: Complete Craftsman Tool set of deep sockets, ~10 screwdrivers, driver, a few odd other sockets, one monkey wrench. (Neighborhood garbage). Nice, nice score, since Craftsman handtools are warrented forever.
~10 years ago: 3 bar stools (behind bar). Needed to be shimmed and tightened, one needed reglueing.
~6 years ago: Working Fan, Desklamp. (Behind office).
~5 years ago: "Cats and Dogs" poster (Regal Cinema).
~5 years ago: NEARLY perfect hardwood oak chair (missing one slat, but otherwise not a scratch)... VERY comfortable, use it for one of my computers (in family room). (Neighborhood garbage)
~4 years ago: SGI IRIX Minicomputer... not functional, but one HELL of a place to put a drink, and a nice end table for a Techno-Geek family... it's one of those heirloom pieces, I guess... this is the same kind that was used to make Jurassic Park. (Military Garbage).
~3 years ago: "The Blue Bomber", giant wooden desk, slightly damaged, ugly as sin, but works well for holding my son's computer, while giving him enough space to do homework, too (don't know WHERE my wife found that... she brought that home).
~3 years ago: Cat, female, mixed breed (American Longhair/Himilayan mix, we think), nearly newborn, abandoned. She's the stangest one of our animals, and was NOT weaned when we found her, but her mom was long gone. We had to feed her with an eyedropper for the first week. Good mouser, loves to live dangerous (she's small, we have two BIG dogs.... she likes to jump onto the bed off their backs at night, using the claws for "extra leverage"). Well beloved family pet, now neutered.
~2 years ago: Long bedroom dresser w/Mirror, mint condition. Tall Boy dresser, matches, mint condition. Two end table/night stands, match, mint condition. Head Board for King Size bed... was taking it away, guy came out of house (he was a cop). Asked ME if he could help me take it away, rather than have to call to have it towed away. Couldn't fit it in my car, so he >LOADED IT INTO HIS SUBURBAN AND BROUGHT IT TO MY HOUSE!<, free. Two weeks later, picked up a nice lamp, and nice trash can (small, blue), from his house, too. (Neighborhood Garbage). My 15 year old son's bedroom suite. Major score, obviously.
~2 years ago: One Dozen Compaq 486-PII machines (various, but the 486s were upgraded with Overdrive chips). Almost all were working, all COULD work, but some were missing harddrives. Harddrives ranged up to 20Gb. The best was a PIII-500 with a 256Mb of Ram and the 20GB HDD, two CDRWs and a CD (and Win98 still on the HDD... they didn't wipe these guys!). It's my 4 year olds computer, works fine with, but I'm going to add more memory, and a better Vidcard (I've got both). It's hooked into our wireless network, and sits in our Family room (see the wooden chair mentioned earlier....) Office Garbage. Oh, and we found a fully functional 486 Compaq Laptop, complete with docking station in that mix, too.
~1 year ago: Nearly perfect Barbie Dolllhouse (missing one piece of furniture, but sells for ~$100). My 4 year old daughter loves this.
While I look at this (which is only partial, as I'm not mentioning all the Bikes, card tables, etc.), I don't see but a few big "Scores", yet I realize I've done well, considering I don't "Dumpster Dive".... BTW, I passed up diving on some computers just last week (three, including monitors, printers, etc) as my wife was saying "No More old computers!)"
Went behind a Staples not expecting much. It was daylight and everything. But hey, I actually DID find something when I wasn't really looking.

Not exactly dumpster diving, but about three years ago I found roughly 30 P233-MMX machines, plus a few other machines, at a scrap metal recycler. Apparantly, the University HSC in Lubbock, TX decided to throw away a few of their old warehoused office computers. I wound up trading a few hundred pounds of scrap steel for them, as they were in the "tin" pile (which usually consists of bicycles, old appliances, sheet metal, water heaters, and whatever else that the scrap yard had decided wasn't worth salvaging for worthwhile metals).
I found enough good parts to build ten machines that I sold for roughly $125 apiece to locals who wanted a cheap machine for internet use. I also found enough parts to build my old machine (old BX mobo, P3 Katmai 450, 128mb PC100, Intel i740 video, although it didn't stick to those specs for long).
The three best places I've found to get hardware - maybe not worth much in a new machine, but good enough to use in an older machine you'd sell on the cheap, or fold with, or give to your grandparents - are school sales, scrap metal yards, and, suprisingly, your local Goodwill or Salvation Army. My current 22" CRT I bought from the Goodwill in Lawton, OK. All it needed was the focus and brightness gain adjusted a hair to make it look clear again, and a good wax job on the screen to fill in a few small scratches.

This one's not dumpster diving either, but just today I managed to come up with a free HP Deskjet 970Cxi printer from a garage sale, and I did need to get a cable and replace the color ink cartridge on it (fortunately, it uses the same 45/78 combination as my other one) but it so far appears to be perfectly functional. Not bad for free, especially because I've been having trouble finding a new HP with a duplexer on the current models.

Last night a friend and I hit the jackpot. We found a perfectly functional Epson Stylus Color 3000. This printer is HUGE. All I had to do is run the head cleaning utility like 9 times to get them working properly. Now I've got a $1000 printer going up on amazon.com and ebay shortly :)

In Japan after New Years alot of older electronic devices get tossed for newer stuff they get. People then set these things out on the curb or outside apartment doors for the trashman to pickup (with stickers sometimes for scheduled pickups-they're trash nazi's..)
Things I have picked up for free:
Pannasonic Rice Cooker (missing pot to cook-bought one for 1500yen~$14)
Sega Saturn (no accessories or controllers-worked)
Japanese Comic Books (these get thrown out all the time, good to catch before it rains lol)
Vacuum (broken hose-duct taped it good)
Back Massager (worked fine, rubber massager thing was scuffed, so now i just use with a socker over it)
Onkyo MD Stereo (no speakers, just used to play it on my own speakers, was nice when I had a NetMD portable)
Huge Red Lantern (no lightbulb, the mounting circle at top was broke, so I replaced with a small metal bar painted black)

Yeah, its good stuff, if you ever go overseas lookout for nice things you can grab!

Now you know it would look better if you just open the shredder and soldered the connections on the inside. or atleast place the splice inside the case.

My contribution to the thread..Found a couple of old ass desktops, one Dell, one Compaq sitting out on the street for garbage day tomorrow...No HDD's in either one :(. So, I'd have to find one of those CD based Linux distros or something to see if any of this stuff works.
The group of goodies scavenged from the 2 boxes so far... Not including a CDRom and combo CD/DVD reader (one of them being some LG model), floppies, cables and perhaps a few other goodies that I havent pulled yet. Clockwise from top-left..
1) Adaptec UW SCSI card #AHA-2940W/2940UW
2) 2x64MB EDO sticks #SEC KMM374F803AK-6U (for/from the dell)
3) AMD K6 266 #A 9819BPBW
4) P2/300 SL2HA
5) SB Live! 5.1 card - maybe this can go in my backup box?...pos Philips I have in it now has never really worked due to useless drivers that barely even worked with Win2K, let alone XP.
6) ATI PCI Mach 64 VT
7) JMC/DA-TECH 80x25mm fan #0825-12HBTL (has thermo sensor)

I'm thinking of maybe drilling a couple holes and slapping it on my NB - assuming it clears board mounted ICs/etc..I figure it must cool better than the Vantec Iceberq (copper) Ive got on it now, or a spare Zalaman NB32J that used to be superglued/AS5'd to the SB..Plenty of airflow in the area due to the overhang from my SLK900A..

Just last night some friends and I got a tip to check out the local ACE hardware store, turned out to be a ton of floor lamps, mostly broken/torn apart, but buried behind it all I found a still shrink-wrapped new one, gave it to one of the guys.
I also found a variable foot pedal switch, perfect item for one of the guys.
One other guy found a nice toolbox that didnt have anything wrong with it, and a whole strip (15') of velcro.

Just kidding.
Last week I read all of the DD threads, (took quite a while, you guys and gals are insane!!).
On Thursday, I left for work a little late and while driving past my apt. complex dumpster, I spy a computer sitting there.
Hmmm, says I. Snagged it and put it in my backseat thinking I might have struck gold!!! At work, I take a look and it is labeled as a UNIX server. Awesome, I think, there's gotta be some hd's in there.
Get home, looked it over and opened her up.
It turns out it was an AOpen server case (big and kinda nice) but inside was an old AOpen MB (almost as big as half the case) with a PII still attached. It came with a floppy and cd rom installed (both old). Inside was an Adaptec SCSI card and an old Trident video card. There were a couple of decent IDE cables also. Finally, there was a 300w power supply.
No hard drives, no high end video cards, no Opterons.
So, all in all, not much there, but, I think I am going to experiment with some case modding and possibly use it for a future build.

I dont know about the desk yet, if the parts are all there but I'll check it out later. My chair on the other hand was brand new 'Lane" genuine leather chair with everything. Here is a pic.

Ok, my biggest dumpster diving find, about 2 yrs ago, (well it was "side of the road")
52 inch projection TV with JVC surround cabinet.
It was like 4feet high, and nearly six feet across.
I got it down the back entry into my basement apartment by myself.
The coaxial F connecter input was Shot. It had 2 sets of RCA inputs & they worked fine. I connected it to my surround sound amp & it was Home theatre luving for the next 6 month's. Abso-freakinlutly the greatest find ever.
Then the Guns died.
I pulled the electronics out of it, then broke the cabinet to pieces. I use the old mirror in my room now though.
May it rest in Peace.. it was an awsome FIND...

In the last month.... at my apartment complex... I've scored a 17" E-Machines (KDS) monitor (newer than the same one I had by over a year). A 27-inch black Panasonic Television with one shiny wear spot on the top. And just now less than 15 minutes ago a 22 inch black samsung tv. So now I contemplate what to do with these this new tv. I already had two including the one I scored earlier this month. And I live in a one bedroom apartment. My girlfriend said to put it in the bathroom in front of the toilet... I love her :)

And they never put the good stuff in there anyways. It gets put on a pallet wrapped and sent back to the warehouse for disposal. Actually I think they sell the stuff to people or companies who in turn resell it on Ebay. If you were even able to get into a BB compactor and found anything of value in it. Then someone in that store is scamming them.

I don't know if you would call this dumpster diving, as I snagged stuff BEFORE it hit the dumpster. My company moved offices. All the old furniture was headed for the dumpster, so I snagged a desk for my daughter, with a pc, 3 17-inch monitors and 1 19-inch monitor.
I'm not sure how to attach pics, but it was all in great shape. the 19 inch monitor was the one I had been using in the office, so I know it was well taken care of.

Me and a friend went Dumpster Diving today. Greatest trip yet. Found a 27 inch TV and 2 stereo systems without speakers. I let my friend have the TV and i took the stereos. TV ended up being broken, stereos ended up working fine, so we took the speakers out of the TV, assembled them onto a cardboard box and saudered it to fit into the back of the stereo. It's beautiful, funny, and might i say rather sexy. The volume button got smashed in, but you can still adjust it. It works great, the speakers are actually decent, and for about 30 minutes of work i got myself a brand new stereo system. Here's a pic of my glorious find/build.

My local Wal-Mart had a "computer recycle day" (TOTAL BULLSHIT-- the workers there would not let me take a monitor, found out later that they sell everything they get to either recyclers or companies). After they turned me away from the semitruck-trailers I went back at 2am, when no one was there. The parking lot has cameras, so I drove in, headlights off, in my black car, at an angle the cameras were blocked from (by the trailers, there were at least 5 of them). The trailers were not fully loaded. I filled my car, with mostly old Dells and such, but I got a TON of decent stuff. Several working monitors, a bunch of P2/P3s and one P4. Also salvaged an AMD 2000 system and removed an AMD 1400+ from another computer. I threw away all the P2s and P3s, after taking all the parts worth anything (most of the computers had dead mobos, or were too old for me to care about). Now I have a shelf full of small hard drives, cd drives, TONS of floppy drives (threw out all but 10, no one needs like 50 floppy drives), fans, a few decent PSUs, etc from the whole incident. Since the AMD 1400+ system was entirely toasted, I will probably be ordering a new mobo for it to use with a GeForce4 TNT2 that I had lying around. Next time they have one of these, I am renting a van and parking nearby. I think I will also go sooner, as I think most of the good systems were already taken (or maybe locked up). It is amazing how many computers soccer moms in a rich area will throw away...

I've often browsed this forum but until recently didn't have a chance to post.
I've gotten two big hauls in my time.
1st I went to ABC warehouse and got probably 100 or so 25 foot RCA cables all brand new as well as a monitor. Next door at a gaming spot I tracked down several gameboys, cases and games as well as an old nintendo gameshark all in great condition. There was more but I had to stop when the cops were called... yikes.
Last week I had an amazing haul while diving at a local university's dumpsters. Behind the science building I found all sorts of nifty glassware, new glass vials (in an unopened box), brand new electronic pH meters (each had a connection broken inside which took seconds to fix), 2 electronic precision balances (worth several thousand each) and a 50 ft roll of metal screen (which replaced my broken window screen this afternoon).

First dive was tonight. Went to a small PC repair shop. There were about 8+ monitors out back, so we did what anyone would do - Grab the biggest one! :p 21" NEC Multisync 6FGp. Sucker is HUGE! Only thing, damn thing doesnt work
Also grabbed a nice HP printer, Photosmart 940 i think, its still in my car. There were quite a few PC's still lying around, but we couldnt fit any morein the car with that huge monitor. Not bad for a first dive, too bad the monitor doesnt work tho.

The office occasionally does massive tosses of old computer stuff.
I mostly stay away (wicked old servers, 15" monitors, other miscellaneous crap), but I do poke around and see if there are any gems hidden among the wreckage.
Besides the occasional small accessory (MS Intellimouse, Dell keyboards, USB Cables, etc.) here and there, sometimes I hit the motherload.
#1 best pickup was an Infocus LCD projector (800x600), only problem with it was the multi-input dongle that went to a little pod that allowed hookup of a PC, mouse/pointer, and audio was busted.
The other inputs (the non-multi) worked fine, (Audio, S-Video, Composite), and the projector bulb had plenty of life, so I just went to Infocus's website and ordered a $9 cable that was the multi-input on one end, and VGA on the other. Worked like a charm; up until I bought my 37" LCD and X360 this past winter, the projector served me well as a giant 480p setup for my original Xbox.
Now it's going to serve a new role as a D&D map projector (http://www.d20srd.org/extras/mapProjection.htm).

So I came across this section of the site just a couple of hours ago and I thought, why not go diving - tonite! So i got my brother and we went to a bunch of stores. First place we hit up was Sports Authority. It a big find, for our first time. Peeked into the dumpster and whaddya know, A brand New Bike (still with tags and warranty :D), a slightly used Trampoline and a crap load of socks and some magnetic massage gloves. The other stores we went to (comper, staps, the city ) were either locked or were compacters. No luck there. So for the last place, we went to Peir Uno and found some very nice candle/speaker stands. I will post pictures below of the finds.

At Sears(where I work) they keep alot of bigger "trash" items that they can't compact outside until they can be taken to the junkyard. You can find tv's(can't compact due to some poisonous gas), appliances and some excercise equipment(just too big for the compactor). I picked myself up a 32" Sony Trinitron television w/ remote, made in 1995. This thing is a beast, 180lbs. It was missing a 3"x8" piece of plastic casing near the speaker, otherwise was in perfect shape. It has picture-in-picture, 2 tuner, and everything else that makes Sony the best in televisions.
I keep my eyes open for other items. I'm waiting for them to trash a 27" Sony Trinitron next. It's been sitting in their back room just collecting dust, so I'm sure they will get rid of it soon.
Many times they will trash water heaters and refrigerators if they are dented and in 1 case they trashed a returned side-by-side fridge with nothing wrong just because it stunk of rotting fish, lol.
Some of my friends in college actually make some money once or twice a year dumpster diving. Yo'd be amazed what students (especially freshmen) will throw out at the end of the semester, just because they don't want to take it home. For our yard sale this weekend, we have a small stack of tvs, half a dozen dvd players, a futon, three or four mini fridges, several tables, and a bunch of smaller stuff. Not counting stuff we're keeping ourselves, like a handful of window fans, a beer pong table, a couple table lamps, or my new 5.1 surround system. All of it in near-new condition. And all this is at a small school, maybe 3k students in the dorms.
Anyone with a college in the area letting out this week, it's worth a look.

found these art posters
The Monet and Munch ones are framed and huge! They're probably about 3.5'x5' or so (can't find my tape measure). The MC Escheresque one is about 2'x3'.
Monet and Munch found by apt dumpster down the street; MC wannabe found 2 houses down at the curb.

one day couple of friends and i are walking around in out local mall. we started to walk towards the exit when the mall was about to close. on out way we passed this verizon cell phone dealership and they were giving out free frisbee the whole day. when we went past there, the dude just handed us the whole bag. it was literally a huge black trash full of frisbees. we counted about 150+ frisbees!!! the next day we had a really good time at the shooting range.

Stale-ples throws out alot of stuff. Always see complete chair kits and file cabinets, sometimes full size bookcases (Don't need another one [yet]). Lately, I found a half size, stackable, foldable bookcase. Nice cherry red finish. No assemblly needed. Best part of all was that the thing was still SEALED IN ITS BOX. Looks like someone in the back spilt some coffee on it and out it went. Too bad they didn't spill coffee on both things. All in all a nice 49.99 (0.00) bookcase :D

I guess u would call this a trash find. Decided to walk in another direction to the store and found a hp photosmart p1000 w/ black ink cartridge. The color cartridge was empty. And its still working. Find it earlier this yr and just gave to the kids. I already have a P1115 but stopped using it and used the P1000 instead. Also someone on craigslist mailed to me free 4 hp ink cartridges-2 blk/2 color. Now that is really a find considering how much the ink is costing now.

Not bad. Don't forget that Office Depot and Staples will give you $3 coupons for each ink cartridge.

Staples around me tend to throw those empty ink tanks you take to them other then use the free recycling program that is already postage paid for them... Find them along with the rest of their stuff in their dumpster, even in the recycling baggies.

i was at the local dump a while back throwing out construction debris with a friend and I see a 2x10 sub box sitting in the pile. I pulled it out. It's fine with the exception of some of the rug pealing off. I went back the next week and I see a samsung dvd/vcr sitting on the top and my friends like it's broken just leave it. Well I took it home and it plays both dvds and vhs tapes just fine. will add pics tonight

I found a bunch of brand new carpet remnents at a construction site, It is a neutral color and great for using to make my cats scratching posts and "jungle gyms".
My dad once found a socket set on the side of the road, it had apparently fallen off a truck and scatered all over the road, but he managed to gather up all the sockets and wrenches.
I also found a brand new air nailer, probably a finishing nailer once when i was going with my mom and uncle to buy my mom a new car. But my uncle claimed that, and I havn't seen it since then.

I have been going out for a few months now and last night was an AWESOME score!
Staples:
This chair:
http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StaplesProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10051&partNumber=615402
It was thrown out because it was "missing bolts" everything was still new in packaging just didn't have the bolts. $2.17 at the hardware store fixed that issue.
This really ugly laptop bag, brand new I don't know why they chucked it other than the fact its hideous.
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h242/equate975/800x600_IMG_0958.jpg
And this which works fine (its just really stupid over USB):
http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StaplesProductDisplay?prodCatType=1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&productId=151316&cmArea=SEARCH
We also got tons of new pens in boxes (nice for school), New desk lamp, New leather PDA case, Leather laptop case (slashed on the front from a box cutter I'm assuming), Automatic stapler, 50pk of DVD+R, 50pk CD-R, and an "OPEN" sign.
From Office Max:
My prize!
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h242/equate975/800x600_IMG_0957.jpg
$200 Epson photo printer! It said "broken" and I guess by being "broken" they ment that someone didn't push the ink cartridge lock thing down all the way... I pushed it down all the way and it works perfectly fine!
1 brand new paper shredder, thrown for "missing UPC"
1 Paper shredder that "does't stay on" haven't tested it yet.
There was a ton more stuff but it wasn't that great, our car was full so we called it a night.
DD FTW!!
wow thats a sweet printer, your lucky :p

This is my first DD post. I've read this thread many months ago and wished I was lucky enough to find some of this good loot I've been reading about . Well yesterday I looked down the drive at my apartment complex and noticed a computer chair sitting by the trash along with some other junk. As I got closer, I saw that the chair was missing a wheel but decided to go further and examine everything. Lo and behold, there was a HP 7850 desktop computer. P3 933mhz, 1 stick 128 mb pc100 and 40 gig drive according to the stickers on the case.
I took it home and plugged it in and it said "no operating system found."
I took the drive out of the case and saw that it was in fact a 80gb WD drive. I put it in my machine, the bios recognized it but windows would not. I downloaded some diagnostic tool from western digital website and ran it and now I have an 80gb drive whereas previously I only had a 30gb drive. Not to mention the other working parts.
I was freaking out happy. I had been wanting a new hard drive for months but im poor.

76 pages of credit card numbers, gift card numbers, checking account numbers... at CompUSA
They don't have the CSV codes. I threw them back in the dumpster once I actually read them. Someone should get fired. They weren't even shredded!
Aside from that I found 2 large printers (don't look too old, Epson) and like every single cable you could ever need for a computer.
