LG L226WT 22" 3000:1 Contrast

How were the viewing angles?

I purposely moved around the monitor at different angles to see how it looked because of all the negatives I've heard about the TN panels, and it looked pretty good to me. The way my workstation is set up, I can't see the viewing angle being a factor for me at all.

If I decide not to spring for a 24", I'd really like to be able to see the LG side-by-side with the Viewsonic. The Costco and BB are more or less right next to one another, so I guess I could pick them both up, take them home and check them out, and then return the losing monitor. Not sure if that would be cool though. They both have good return policies, especially Costco.

how did the 20" look in comparison to the 22"? (it's too bad the 24" wasnt there because i beleive that's the one with the nice panel in it).

I thought the LG's were the standouts in both their respective sizes, but who knows how they have them set up, or how long each of the display models have been out there. I'm guessing that they don't spend a lot of time configuring the monitors, but I could be wrong.

well sure, considering what the store may have been stocking but i meant in comparison to each other? did they look like they pretty much performed the same in comparison to each other?

of course if so that's why i said i wished the 24" was there, since with it's supposed IPS panel one could see how much more that one stood out.

yeah but was the whole line released? since no one has said anything about seeing a 24", which i think could possibly be the best one.

Here was the announcement regarding the entire new lineup:

LG's got 5 new LCD monitors for you, and you, and you...

More from LG; this time monitors, the LCD flagship kind, dig? Five "Certified for Windows Vista" widescreen LCDs in fact, ranging from 19 to 24-inches and all designed under the governance of Microsoft's Industrial Design Toolkit. Great, that gives an idea of what they might look like but a few pictures not to mention pixel resolutions would have been useful, donchathink LG? Anyway, the 19-inch (L196WTQ-WF), 20-inch (L206WTQ-WF), 22-inch (L226WTQ-WF and L226WA-WF) are all considered top-end LG models so you'll get a 2-ms response, 3000:1 contrast, 170-degree viewing angle, and a DVI input with HDCP for high-def video playback in Vista -- yeah, they include RGB too naturally. They also feature LG's f-ENGINE image processing chip further blurring the lines dividing television v. monitor use for gaming and PCs. In fact, the 22-inch (L226WA-WF) positions itself nicely into the niche by sporting an unspecified range of AV-inputs. The 24-inch FLATRON L246WP goes a step further by offering a 1920x1200 panel resolution, 1000:1 contrast, 8-ms response, HDMI and component inputs. No word on pricing or release date which is right on par for this announcement.

And here is info on each monitor on LG's site.

Now that we have that established, please try to remember this thread is reserved for the LG 226WT and WA models.

Thanks

What about the 226WA?? I think I'm more intrested in the WA vs. the WT.
Anybody know when the WA is comming out?

The WT has a tad bit slower response time which indicates better color accuracy. And as long as they're both below 8ms, they should be perfect.

Come on people, somebody buy this already!

What I'm confused about is the response time for the WT. Some websites claim 5 ms whereas LG claims 2 ms (here). So what is it??

My understanding is the WA is 2ms while the WT is 5ms.

Maybe somewhere along the lines there was a mis-print. It really doesn't matter, though. 3ms isn't much, imo, especially when we're talking less than 8ms.

Maybe 2 ms is just as good as 5 ms for me as you mention, Kilter. I' ve never owned a LCD, thus I don't know. What I know is that in practice the 2 ms 22" monitors are faster that the 5 ms.

PS/ It seems like the warranty is 3 years not the 1 year mentioned by BB.

I called my local best buy. They said they just got 4 in stock today. He said they were too busy and couldn't put one out on display for awhile. Nothing he could do about it. I had my gf call back later and she asked the same guy the same thing. He said he'd put one out on display right away.

I'm gonna go over there later tonight and check it out. I'll of course post my findings.

So if this sucker looks really good, do I get it or do I wait till I can see the Samsung 22'' 226BW? $20 cheaper than the LG at circuit city. These seem to be the first two 2nd gen 22inchers around.

BB has a 14 day return policy, but if it's not defected, you would have to pay a 15% restocking fee (which would be around $60).

So as much as I want to tell you to buy it, bring it home and take picture and do an extensive review ( :p), I think it would be wiser to wait until we can get some reviews on the Samsung 226, as well.

Maybe after BB you can swing to Circuit City and take a look at the Samsung, and then buy whichever one you thought looked the best. Heck, I'd be happy with a review / pictures of either one of them.

while someone did say to keep it on topic to just the 226, i would still be interested as to how the 24" version "compares" to the 226, since the whole line 'appears' to be TN except the 24" and this would likely confirm it (although no one has confirmed that the 24" is being sold anywhere).

Someone should probably create a thread on it.

This thread was created as soon as it was announced last Dec., so it wouldn't be unreasonable to create one on the 24' as well.

This thread was too long for me to read everything but I just picked one of these up (LG L226WT). I was going to get the Samsung but I saw this and couldn't resist. So without even reviewing I picked it up on specs alone and I am impressed. It is incredibly bright, and everythign looks great on it. I use a 2407WFP at work and that is an awe inspiring LCD, but I sure don't mind coming home anymore. I'm just happy I don't have to squint at my Insprion 9400 display anymore.

I live in south Denver, the park meadows BB was sold out, there were 4 left at the Colorado and I-25, it got there last night. So it looks like I wasn't the only one. Except I happened by chance, I didn't even realize it was released. Lucky me

We need pictures! And how's the viewing angles?

No problem ... it does have some back light bleed (like the samsung) but just on the bottom and top, I don't notice it unless its a really dark scene or black pic (duh).

does that help with viewing angle? sorry I suck at takin pics. I honestly could care less about viewing angle, I will always be directly in front of it, basking in it's glow.

LG's site says 2ms response time also? mistype? everywhere else says 5ms

Thanks again for the pics, please try some games or screen timers, all the gamers here want to know about lag (oh and I would like if the monitor buzzes at medium or low brightness)!

Regards

yeah i'm still a little confused as to why the 22" model has two different versions, and apparently with the same type of panel....

I'm confused too ... but hoping that the 2ms is true, idk how to test that

WoW looks awesome ... I just rebuilt windows so its all I have installed right now.

still screwing aroudn with the colors/brightness/contrast as well. the forte manager helps a lot, easier than the OSD

i'm still curious how any of the new LG's, including this one, stack up against others of their respective sizes.

i guess when anyone sees the first review on anywhere put up a link.

backlight bleed? are they using the same crap as everyone else... their 20"has practically no backlight bleed at all...sigh

Well I saw it on the shelves at best buy. I can confirm some top and bottom backlight bleed. Not bad, but I was hoping for none. I compared it side by side with a 22'' Westinghouse and couldnt tell much difference in the 6 picture demo. Man I wish I had that thing hooked up to a pc to test out. I want to know if this is $100 more for better image quality, or for the nifty shiny rotating bezel that I'd never use.

mindaugas, is there any input lag? When you move your mouse around really fast, does it keep up?

@mindaugas
It would be very kind of you if you could take a picture illustrating the pivot.
According to this site it does but I am not sure whether it is a typo or not.

No, it's manufactured by LG. All the others (except for the Samsung) up to this point are either manufactured by Chei or AU Optics (to the best of my knowledge).

I'm going to check out this monitor later today at BB. I'll observe all of these things.

It is manufactured by LG and it is not IPS so it must be a TN. I am going to see if I can talk to my contact over there and find out about this whole 8 bit TN thing.

can you confirm the pivot function
is it available?

it would be great if you could compare the backlight bleed
is it any better than samsung's ?
