Help determining if RDP was compromised

I don't see anything to suggest there was ever a user named "user". Digging into this a little more it sounds like it might always say authentication succeeded if the rdp client used does not have Network Level Authentication. I am about 95% sure that no one has gotten into his system through rdp.

Help determining if RDP was compromised

No there is only his user account. I had wondered if they possibly created a "user" account and removed it but I have not looked into this yet. We awere already in the process of ordering parts for a new system to replace this one and wiping now isn't really an option unless it was an...

Help determining if RDP was compromised

Someone I do some IT work for had their bank account info stolen and whoever did it transferred some money to a PayPal account. Since it was PayPal it sounds like it was recovered fairly easily. But we are trying to figure out how they might have found out the information. He has RDP open up...

Any advice on web hosting for small new business?

So much bad advice posted in this thread... Web Hosting Certainly no reason to go with AWS for something this basic. Grentz suggested a couple of the better shared hosts. BigScoots is also good. Check for coupons on WebHostingTalk forum (scroll down to Advertising Forums -> Web Hosting...

Thrift Store Laptop: Fix, Sell, or Part Out?

Oh forgot one other very important thing. To me it looks like the power jack is missing a part. Like there are two super thin metal rods/wires that look like they would bend eventually if you kept plugging in a charger. I think there must be some kind of plastic cap that is supposed to go...

Thrift Store Laptop: Fix, Sell, or Part Out?

Saw a pretty decent laptop at a thrift store for $30 and decided to take a chance on it. Trying to figure out what to do with it since it is missing parts. Sony Vaio VPC-F115FM Includes: 1.6 GHz Intel Core i7 720QM Motherboard w/ Nvidia GeForce 330M GPU Keyboard in very good condition...

    Beginner VPS Questions

Ubiquity and Digital Ocean are about as cheap as it gets for decent VPS at $4 and $5 month. If you do go above 512mb ram you may find better slightly deals elsewhere though. Rates like EVL Gaming offers really are not sustainable especially when gaming servers are allowed. They may have...

    Beginner VPS Questions

CPU is almost always shared on a VPS and RAM is sometimes shared. Most hosts oversell their servers to provide services at lower cost on the assumption that users aren't going to be using all of their allocated resources all the time. How oversold the servers are depends on the host. Game...

    Beginner VPS Questions

A lot of hosts do not allow Minecraft servers including the two that you mentioned. Always read the Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy (if an AUP exists, some just have TOS). Often a good idea to avoid yearly deals on LEB. There are not that many budget hosts around that I would...

Can't think of anything I really need at the moment other than cash. Sorry. May have a buyer, pending confirmation from him that he still wants it. But if anyone is interested leave a PM and you will be next in line in case he doesn't take it.

Bad SATA Controller - Recovery help

Restore went smoothly enough with the controller card. Sounds like it was working fine for the first day and a half or so. Now we are getting errors with Microsoft office. It is throwing errors related to normal.dotm, normalemail.dotm, and msxml 6.0. Been too busy to look at it yet, but...

Bad SATA Controller - Recovery help

Yes I noticed that heat when I was working on it recently lol. Didn't even have it running long, was just doing some testing to see if I could get it to boot. Sadly whoever assembled the system must have been clueless. The top two places the motherboard screws in did not have spacers. The...
