Now I have a working system again!
Took out the P5Q-EM bios chip and popped it in my P5E-VM bios socket and did a hotflash.
I hope I won't have to do this again :)
There must have been something wrong with the bios file I tried to flash with because now my board won't boot. Cleared CMOS, removed the battery, memory etc it's completely dead and to top things off "Asus Crash free bios" does not work :/.
Time for RMA...
With the current bios 0202 it's too early to tell how well the P5Q-EM will overclock since there are quite a lot of things that needs to be improved.
Changing the multipler or anything past the standard values ie FSB etc will cause the system to not boot.
Maybe it's because lack of support...
The current bios of the P5Q-EM seems to have some problems with my QX9650.
When I change vcore to something else than AUTO my system doesn't boot.
Temp shows up wrong in bios etc.
Even at stock speeds my system isn't 100% stable.
I hope they release a more comåatible bios soon ;(.
Asus showed of their latest G45 M-ATX at Computex 2008.
Found an image of the board over at Anandtech.
Would be interesting to know some details, if any of this board ;)
It's been a while since I last posted in this thread...
The last time I reported about my replacement CPU QX9650 that I eventually had to RMA because it had problem with temperature readings, some cores didn't change during idle/load... anyway got a new replacement today and it's a newer batch...
Ok either my MB is screwed or my CPU....
I've disabled speedstep and c1e and tcm or whatever it's called and my CPU still throttles....
I'll try with my new p5e tomorrow to see if it does the same, otherwise I'll RMA my L740 cpu
Tremeloes, you influenced me to change some parts of my W/C setup :)...
I now use the same radiator and tubing as you do, ie MagiCool SLIM DUAL 240 Radiator and Tygon R4300... but with a few different parts...
Blocks:
CPU - EK Water Blocks EK-Supreme Acetal universal
NB - Swiftech MCW30...
I've own both the V300B and V350B and while they have their disadvantages the V350 requires next to no mods to fit your high performance GFX cards and air CPU coolers...
Btw the V350 can fit a 120mm dual rad in the front without it taking too much space...
I had a QX9650 v39 that I had to RMA after 2 weeks and today I got a v40, Batch L740B120. I can boot at 4.8 Ghz at 1.8v but it seems slow at whatever speed I choose.
When comparing my former v39 vs v40 at 4.55 Ghz .. v39 gave me better results in bench apps...
Anyway I've ordered a new P5E...
