Thanks for all the work you did! Can I reasonably assume that if my monitor won't turn on that the problem is the power supply? (i.e. is there any other possible reason it wouldn't turn on? and yes I tried a different power cord and wall socket) My monitor died at the end of March, a mere four...
I have a Kama-meter and one of the probes is located down in the hard drive area. The temps stay around 38C, so I haven't bothered trying to fit a fan in the bottom. The other three fans in the system appear to be taking care of things.
I haven't been around for the past few months, since I've been gaming instead of visiting forums :) But I just wanted to say that I used the EVGA Step-Up program to upgrade my 8800 GTS to a GTX 280. I didn't have any problems with the process, although I did have to wait in a queue (I guess they...
I'm not sure these will do what you want, but at least there are no physical discs/boxes... have you looked at Steam and/or Direct2Drive? Just download a game, and play. I've never used them, since I prefer to have a CD / DVD, but some of my friends like them for their convenience.
I did consider it. However, it's now $150 (for me) to Step-Up vs. $500 - $550 for an HD 4870x2. Based on the games that I play (MMORPGs and turn-based strategy games), a GTX 280 will last me for several years, I think. When it's time to replace the video card, I'll get whatever is best at that time.
It's been a month since I received the computer, and I just wanted to report that everything is working well :) I really enjoy playing Vanguard and Age of Conan on high settings :D I'm seeing things in the games that I never saw before with my old computer, hehe.
I still remember one time...
That's entirely different. Vista 64-bit is not XP 64-bit.
There is no reason, unless you have old hardware that doesn't have drivers, not to get Vista 64-bit now. If you're building/buying a new computer, there won't be any problems.
GPU: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4870 512MB
I recommend a Visiontek instead. Visiontek has a lifetime warranty
RAM: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800
You really should go with 4GB (2 x 2GB).
PSU: CORSAIR 750TX 750W
Probably more than you need, but you can never have TOO much power in a...
Ack :( Well, I'll make a note of what you did, and continue to follow this thread. It is possible that you need to leave Rivatuner running. I've never used it, so don't know much about it.
Oh, I agree. My friend bought it because he had a LOT of discounts from various things, and ended up with like a 30% reduction in price. I tried to tell him price isn't everything...
I think this will be the last Dell he ever gets, though.
