I'm way to frugal to blow money for no benefit. I wasn't clear in the top post in that the threadripper system won't be totally scrapped. I'll use it to replace an ancient i3 2105 system that is so painfully slow I'm not sure why I have kept it this long. It's overkill for the applications...
I’m moving from a 1950x 1st gen threadripper to a 5900x on a x570 Asus Crosshair VIII hero. Would I be really gimping the system by trying to recycle my old ram 4x16gb at 3000MHz C15 compared to another kit like 2x32 gb 3600 C16 or 18? Seems like the performance difference might only be a few...
Yes. Tried the beta bios. The new bios they provided is E7B09AMS.1D7 I flashed the system with this one and then installed the 3080. No change. System wouldn't post. Dropped the old card back in, reset CMOS and am back in business. At least MSI is trying. I hope they have a plan B. I...
I updated the latest published beta bios settings to set: PCH Gen Switch from Auto to Gen 3. Then I needed to install the RTX 3080. To verify the card had been working I had just put it into my son's computer. Yes he was thrilled about the upgrade. I had left it in for two weeks. This was...
This is a good idea...and not something I have tried, but was wondering if continuing to leave it on auto was really a good idea in light of all the issues. Will try later tonight when I have time to pull apart the two computers. Fingers crossed (y)
I have also submitted a support ticket with...
Does anyone know if MSI X399 gaming pro carbon AC motherboards and 1st gen threadrippers are compatible with NVIDIA 30 series GPU? So far I haven’t been able to get either a MSI 3090 or Asus 3080 to even post. The motherboard’s error code 00 shows up and a red led for the CPU lights up.
System...
Thanks for the heads up. So how did you know the shuffle was about to start? This was the closest I have got to a new GPU, but of course came up short and got the "You Almost Got It" email. I'm getting ready to give up.
I think the performance is pretty good for 1950X. What is it barely ok in? For video there are applications that don't use all of its threads and on the gaming side even less of those threads are used.
