That seems pretty good. Why exactly do you recommend those HDs? Yeah I know RAID is not backup but my Dad is more worried about HD failure than anything as he has had this happen to him a couple times.
Specifically, what prebuilt computer would you recommend? He definitely wants RAID mirroring for reliability, speed is not so important. HD capacity is not important at all as he doesn't nearly fill up the 40GBs he has right now.
If you think I should replace the HDs with SATAs and get a new...
I want to upgrade my Dad's computer:

Web browsing, lots of email, youtube, Word, listening to music
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$250-500
3) Where do you live?
North Carolina
4) What...

Cool, I didn't realize that an i7 build could be so economic. Is that definitely the way to go? What monitor do you guys recommend? If I waited a few months do you think I could afford to get that HP?
I need to build a new computer. This will be my primary computer. I do not plan on gaming much but want something that at least has the power to convert video files and very occasional photoshop. I also want to watch HDTV and will add a Blu Ray later. I already have a decent sound card and...
OK, so I turned on my computer yesterday and it kept telling me that the Windows C://windows/... (can't remember the rest) files were missing or corrupt. So I thought then it had to be the hard drive that had been causing all these problems despite the fact that every time I have scanned it it...
OK, I'm back. I ran DSKCHK and it said that my HD was fine. I am using IDE HDs and DVD drives. My computer is still acting up though. It's really strange, it will boot up completely and then reset five or six times in a row and then work perfectly for the next day. Sometimes it will boot up...
Ran memtest for 36+ hours straight. It ran 44 tests with 0 errors. Now what should I do?
I am going out of town until Saturday for Xmas so it will be a few days before i can reply. Again, thanks for all the help.
Cool, what would that show me?
Also, I assume that I should upgrade my BIOS. I have an old MSI mobo and it seems that I need a floppy to do this but I have no floppy drive in my PC. Is there any other to update the BIOS?
EDIT: DLed MemTest86 but again I have no floppy drive. Is there...
Yes after a clean install. I will try autostreamer. However, I think my computer is dying, after my latest XP install the computer just resets as soon as the desktop finishes loading and does this about 20 times in a row until it will finally boot up and then be usable.
Everytime I reformat my computer and install SP 2 on Windows XP my computer stalls and crashes at the exact same moment and then will not boot any more. I only started having this problem about 4 months ago. Before that I could always install SP2 with no problem when reformatting my computer...
Awesome, I appreciate your help, this looks like an amazing system and is even cheaper than what my friend was considering. He still has about $100 to play with. With this money what would you suggest adding/upgrading/replacing or should he just pocket the money?
