Lian Li slide in hard drive mounting - is it safe?

Hi, I wonder if anyone has experience with the Lian Li cases where you slide the hard drive into the 3.5" slots? Like the PC-Q27 (http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-q27 ), see pictures below. Since the hard drives only slide into the 3.5" slots, does it really stay fixed in place...

Setting power save options individually per drive in Windows?

8 to 300 seconds spin down time - isn't that kind of short for a driver that is supposed to be used for NAS / file server duty? Or is the spin up time so short (some 100 milliseconds?) that you will not notice it much when accessing it anyway?

Setting power save options individually per drive in Windows?

Do you know if it is possible to set that spin down time per individual drive on Western Digital Red or Green drives? Yes, and I intend to have an external drive as well that I attach manually and back up to every 3-6 months. But since it's a bit of a hassle having to do that manually every...

Setting power save options individually per drive in Windows?

Hi, I'd like to have the following power save setting in Windows 7: HDD 1: Never turn off drive. HDD 2: Turn off drive after X minutes of inactivity. The reason is that I want instant access to HDD 1 so it should always be turned on. But HDD 2 is only used once a week or month during backups...

    Need advise on backup strategy

Thanks for the feedback! It's borderline too much for me to have 4x the usable storage space for backup (i.e. having 4 HDDs in total, but only 1 HDD worth of actual data). Maybe another solution would be to rotate between HDD-B and External HDD every 3-6 months? I.e. pull out HDD-B and...

    Need advise on backup strategy

Hi, I'm going to setup a backup solution for home usage and I'm looking for some advise. This is the setup I have in mind currently: 1. Desktop PC: * Only has an SSD, that is backed up to HDD-A on Server PC weekly over Gigabit LAN, using Windows Backup. 2. Server PC: * Has SSD for...

Western Digital 3.5" 5 TB Red and Green Hard Drives

Well they keep talking about HAMR as the next big thing. But I've heard very little about when they actually intend to have HDDs based on that technology in the shops and what the initial capacity will be? Also, do you think the 5 TB Red and Green WD HDDs have been canceled, or are they just...

Western Digital 3.5" 5 TB Red and Green Hard Drives

Hi, In 2012 there were several sources mentioning that Western Digital should release 5 TB 3.5" Red and Green Hard Drives by the end of 2013. See for example: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/WD-Green-WD-Red-NAS-Desktop-5TB,19517.html The other info in those slides proved to be...

Does Intel Matrix Storage technology support 2 x Raid 0 arrays?

Hi, I just wonder if the Intel Matrix Storage technology that comes with the standard Intel chipsets (e.g. 8 series chipset for Haswell CPUs) support the following setup: 1. 4x4 TB HDDs in total. 2. The first 2 HDDs form a Raid 0 array @ 8 TB in total. 3. The next 2 HDDs form a separate...
