Time to build a new rig, but I'm at a lost for how much power is really needed. When I built my last rig kilowatt PSUs were the rave, but is all that power still needed? Machine will be overclocked

I've recently decided to try a intel chipset for the upgrade in my parents computer. Its the P45 chipset and i'm having some trouble understanding the bios settings. i've never used an Intel chipset before so its always been nvidia 780 or 790i chipsets.
If someone could just tell me what...
to put it simply, if you didn't or dont see an improvement, you did something wrong. Especially if you use apps that support SSE4.1 and are multi threaded.
Anyway
Multithreaded SSE4.1 supporting apps:
All of VSO's software. ConvertxtoDVD, etc
All of TMPEG's software.
and a few others...
higher front side bus and more L2 cache, you'll notice a difference, especially if you encode due to the SSE4.1, also as others have said, the chip overclocks like a dream. Expect 4.0ghz at close to if not stock voltage.
the heat is whats keeping you from being occt stable. Was in the same boat for a while.
anyway, back to OP, the intel northbridge is going to give you the best front side numbers. they are superior to nforce northbridges.
Seriously, stick with a quad, when I take my 9770 out and pop my E8500 in and clock it up to 4.6 I see no difference in games from my 9770 @ 4.2ghz.
That whole dual core is faster then quads is B.S. and I've tested this theory time and time again, i don't care what others say, and I dont...
As its been said before, if your going gaming only, get the best dual core you can buy, (personally a E8500) and a decent air cooler and you should be able to hit around 4.5ghz or 4.6ghz on air.
The only advantage to having a quad core for a gaming rig is if you work with a lot of media or do...
I went intel after I started working for a boutique PC builder. It was around the time intel took off and my opteron 170 at 2.8ghz was starting to feel dated. My first intel cpu was a QX6850. With AMDs performance there is simply no reason to buy amd, even if you are a heavy PC user. Intels just...
