You make me want one. I do have a modded & balanced Bel Canto DAC2.. Was 1,200 in 01.. Still is a great DAC.. & I have a upgraded Goldpoint amp pro. Best amp I heard for under a grand. Works wonders with my Ortho's & 7 DT48 headphones.

If you want headphones that far exceed their cost I'd look at The AD700 for 80-90 DT48 for 60-125 used K500/501 100-150

If you want accuracy, balance, neutral/nature timbre, I'd get a used DT48e for 60-150 used online.

The more transparent the headphone, the more noticeable the upstreaming of your components will be.. The headphone becomes totally submissive to the components, which can be good or bad.. Not true at all about closed headphones being musically inferior. You have the DT48/900ST/W5000/D2000/D5000/ D7000/R10 'the king'/Victor 1000/Victor 700/E8/E9/Pro 900/780.. Just to name a few....)
