UEFI Firmware Update available for "blank screen on boot" for RTX 4080/4090

Try enabling "Compatibility Support Module" in the UEFI. (On mine it enabled itself after a few failed boots.) No issues with blank screen on boot, after that.

4080 Super: New Owners Thread - Share your experience!

Thanks! After building my previous rig to the RGB-1337 spec, I decided to go for the "system I built over 10 years ago" look, this go-around. #nailedit

4080 Super: New Owners Thread - Share your experience!

I did not build this system with a particular eye to esthetics, but that card... still manages to look out of place to me. It, as expected, delivers double the performance of the 3070 Ti it replaced. But I really would have happily grabbed a dual slot 4080 S, even if it meant easing up on the...

    MS ends WMR support/devlopment

Unfortunate, but the writing had been on the wall for some time. The fact that Xbox didn't even attempt to compete with PSVR when so much of the development was already done still baffles me. That was the kind of userbase the platform needed to keep interest alive.

Will you jump on 40xx Super Video cards or would you rather wait for 50xx series to come out?

I held off on the launch cards because of how... uninspiring they are from both a value and VRAM standpoint. I'll keep an open mind and give Nvidia the chance to win me over on the refresh. I'm not expecting the 4080 refresh to be 20 GB, however. (Based on the most recent rumors I've personally...

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Variant Could be Refreshed With AD103 GPU

This strikes me as unlikely. A 4070 refresh with higher core counts than the 4080? Sure, they could kneecap it as a 12GB card and hold the clocks back. But unless it's basically the same price as a 4070 Ti, reviewers will tear them a new one, given the present state of things.

I want a new GPU for VR!

Nvidia apparently invested quite heavily in VR optimizations for their drivers with the 1xxx series; AMD has apparently never put forth more than a token effort. Nvidia will remain the optimal choice for VR at least until AMD makes a real effort.

Bigscreen Beyond - µOLED 2560x2560 per eye - SteamVR Direct HDM

I will for sure be keeping a close eye on this one (kek). Headsets coming down to this size is really getting into the 'dream' territory for what I hoped we would one day see after using the DK2. I will also, however, be waiting to see reviews before I decide whether this is a worthwhile upgrade...

531.18 GeForce graphics driver bug may cause 10%+ CPU usage

Good call out, thanks! I was eager to grab these drivers to try out RTX super resolution. If I hadn't been monitoring to see the utilization, it would have been easy to miss this for much longer. I've seen it eat upwards of 20% on my 5800X3D.

Steam Bucks - Buy Index or wait?

I had my Index packed away for a year, mainly because I was traveling. I just built a new rig and got my VR space set back up; I didn't know how much I missed having it until I had it back. I was originally planning to get a new monitor to accompany the new rig, but it's now apparent that would...

Do any VR headsets support Freesync?

No, VRR is actually not preferred for smoothness in VR. Reprojection accomplishes smoothness when/if your system can't keep up.

Upgrade or wait: mid 2022 edition

Some prices have come down since I pulled the trigger; the SSDs, RAM, and GPU are a bit cheaper, now. But the full build (excluding peripherals) ran me $2250.

    Windows 12

I'm running Windows 11 22H2 on my Surface Go, new gaming desktop, and work laptop. I had the same initial reactions at launch as many of the people in this thread, with the inability to never combine icons and no access to Task Manager from the taskbar being my biggest unresolved gripes. That...
