Win8 reload and PC wont shutdown??

So the only way it will power off is it you hold down the power button on the machine? Does the mouse move around the screen, or is the OS frozen up? It sounds like it could be a hardware issue, run a disk check to test.

    Good Anti-Virus for Terrible User

I would recommend setting up an Open DNS account for him and change the IP DNS servers to the openDNS servers. They have good website blocking controls and an easy to use settings menu to configure his account.

Fresh Install. BSOD after long period shutdown??

Check the sata cables that connect the drive to the board, could be a bad cable or connection. Try using a different drive, known good one to install windows. If you get the same bsod it is probably a bad board or video card.

Recommend me a good, cheap mobo

I got a cheap, $119 Asus 970 chipset am3+ board and have not had any problems with it. It will run the latest AMD processors if you ever decide to upgrade yours, and you will save some money since it isn't the 990FX chipset. I don't remember the model # but you can find it by searching the ASUS...

No window 7 drivers on manufacturer website

You can use the Add Legacy Hardware which is accessed under the device manager, while selecting your computer name. Then chose to select from a list and to specify the location where the downloaded driver file is saved.

Driver Issue Not Allowing Computer To Shutdown/Reboot Properly

You may have already tried these steps: run Ccleaner to delete all temp/junk files and the registry cleaner to remove unneeded registry entries. Uninstall the driver and all software, run Ccleaner again, re-install the latest driver. Also, check that the card is seated in the PCI-e slot completely.

    AMD FX 8350 in Q3 2012

Still happy with my FX 6100 processor. I know the benchmarks are not that good compared to Intel comp. but I can't tell any slow down in apps or bottlenecks in real world use.

OS For A Home Server, and How to Setup a Safe Acess Anywhere Connection to a Server

I would recommend WHS. The OS has lots of media sharing capabilities and user friendly menus. I have Ubuntu on a usb drive that I boot to with my laptop sometimes, don't use it too much. I think they should offer more updates to the OS like microsoft does for security and features.

Does Windows 7 hit a point of "no return"?

I didn't see anyone mention this one. Try to increase the page file size from a max of 6 GB to a max of 15 GB, recommended virtual memory is 2.5 times max ram installed. Also be sure to have all the win updates installed for system stability and security. Last, check your AV and firewall...

Microsoft Hotfix For AMD "Bulldozer" Based Processors

I did read that Bulldozer is faster for memory speed because it can take higher clocked memory over DDR3 1600 speed and the benchmarks show an increase versus the Phenom II processors.

    How-to Guide for Virus/Trojan/Malware Removal

Thanks for this thread about malware removal. I downloaded the sysinternals pdf and checked out some of the other great resource links. I have seen these fake AV programs more frequently since late last year. Sometimes they do damage to Windows that requires a clean install to fix. Other times...

Microsoft Hotfix For AMD "Bulldozer" Based Processors

I have an FX 6100 processor and will be installing the patch. I had to enter my e-mail address in the MS kb site to get the file sent. From what I have read, I don't expect much improvement, maybe 1-2%. Also, since my overclock is not the extreme turbo, but the mid overclock to 3.8 Ghz, will...
