Dude, you just saved me 800 bucks. My Q6600 was a no go and was about to buy an extreme edition. I read your response and my situation did a 180. So, I want to say thank you very much, all is well at a modest 3ghz (9x333).
You happen to know what the default voltage is of the VTT? MSI only...
Q6600 owner here - my vid is 1.2625 acording to coretemp. It's a G0 stepping. I've only had it a few days, currently running vcore at 1.32-1.35 to get 3 Ghz (9x333). The overclock didn't budge at all until I upped the vtt voltage to 16% on my P6N diamond.
I have a 680i board (MSI P6N diamond) and I just picked up a G0 stepping 6600. I hadn't realized the issues with 1333 fsb and quad core. I thought I was in the clear since I had an E6700 (2.66) running at 3333 without issue. Well, I was dissappointed when the q6600 didn't want to cooperate with...
That may be, I read a guy had rma'd his board and got it back with 0307, and it was working fine. That is probably the case with vrzone, the configuration of certain machines might have caused problems with the enabling of certain features. I was considering loading that bios, shutting down...
The asus forum for this board reports that bios 0307 is still crummy, I would not recommend using, I'm going with 0401.
Update: I just loaded 0401 without a hitch. When I set the SLI memory setting to expert, it actually uses the SPD and boots at 1000ddr with 5-5-5-15-2t trc 30 timings...
The beauty of the P5N-E SLI is it's price/performance ratio. I have no complaints about the board at all, but that does not make it better than the eVGA 680i board, just less expensive. So it comes down to features really, I think both boards will perform the same. I have no personal experience...
I'll give it a try tomorrow and post some actual scores. Running the FSB at 1333 vs 1066 makes the biggest difference in memory performance. 1000ddr yielded about ~6800mb/s for ALU/FPU in sandra memory bandwith with a 1333fsb. 800ddr yeiled about 6450 in sandra with 1333fsb. Stock bandwith runs...
I've got everything pretty straitened out now as far as settings go so I have no complaints really. My only complaint would be the lack of a bios update, but I doubt it will change performance to any great degree. I'm just curious though about 680i boards, especially the reference design. For...
That's a tough call, since owning a P5N-E SLI I've been keeping an eye on the evga solution. I stopped by compusa and they had a BFG version (reference design) of the same board. It took all my self control to not grab it and give it a go. Thanks for the bios link Pretzel, I'll have to wait till...
I hear what your saying. While I was screwing around with this stuff I noticed that running the memory at "only" 800mhz yielded pretty unnoticeable differences in benchmarks. To tell you the truth, Sandra scored roughly the same at 1000mhz 5-5-5-15 2t (1333fsb) timings and 800mhz 4-4-4-12 2t...
After doing a bit of research, I'm begining to think the LDT can be a factor when overclocking. The default is 5x and I think the NB - SB link is 200mhz giving a 1000mhz HT. I'm not sure what fsb overclocking does to this link, but I'm inclined to think that running at a 1333fsb you need to...
I don't think it's a JDEC standard as of yet, but the board will run your memory at 1066. I was running 1:1 (1066:1066) with some DDR2 8000 (1000mhz). Now I'm running 1333FSB/1000 memory - it's happy that way.
Nice work with the board. I'm thinking of stealing a SB cooler from a discarded a8n-sli. Let us know where that cooler gets you as far as OC's and temps. Dremel tools For the Win!
