who makes a USB repeater/access point?

I work in a place with no cell reception or wifi. Yah. Weird eh? There's *one* networked PC. I don't have the freedom to change any of the existing setup as far as a wifi router etc. The only thing I could away with - maybe - is something I could shove in the USB port to act as an access...

Any good mobos with PCI-X ports?

P3 boards with PCI-x should not be too hard to get. I got two from craigslist ads.

Post Your Home File Server Specs

Yep. My ISP blocks port 80. I use port 81 instead. You just need to add ":81" to the end of the URL.

Whatcha gonna do when AVG is no longer free?

    Avira is another free one.

To stay with AGP or to upgrade to PCIe...

Depends on what you are doing, and how much longer you plan to go with your current motherboard. AGP will probably do me fine for another 5 years :D I don't game, and my PC is half what yours is.

    Line quality tests?

Thanks. I did come across that ;) I was hoping there was something 'portable' I could run on my own.

    Line quality tests?

I'm having some connectivity issues that I'd like to blame on the ISP. :p They are gracious enough to ping the connection while I have them on the phone, and the test succeeds, or yields a result after a few attempts. "Seems to be working fine. Is there anything else I can do for you today...

    Good Linksys Router

In light of having great success with a pair of WRT54GL routers and DD-WRT firmware.... I would make sure any of these newer Linksys routers were at least DD-WRT compatible in case I didn't like the factory firmware. ;)

    POE...??

Also consider that there should be some separation from data and AC power cabling. This may not always be convenient. Not only would you have an ugly power cord, but the also the receptacle box, and AC/DC power brick. :(

Expected performance with DGL-4300 in this setup?

I setup my brother with the DGL-4300 last week. XBox Live, and laptop on wireless, plus a wired PC. I *know* I would hear if there was a problem. :D I was worried about the reception also. The Xbox is 20' away on the other side of a closet. The laptop is often used at the other end of the...

    DD-WRT or ???

I need the WAN port for the WAN. ;) Couldn't find the Buffalo locally without a long wait. I didn't mind the $72 (cdn) price I paid yesterday for the WRT54GL... Its the $230 x 2 that I paid for the other flakey junk that's got me choked. I flashed it and deployed it today. Not...

    DD-WRT or ???

I'd like to have similar performance & reliability to a WRT54GL w/DD-WRT in a wired-only package, with VPN tunneling, and has at least 6 LAN ports on it. Does such a thing exist? Or is a WRT54GL with some tweaking and a 10/100 switch still the way to go?
