dude, get the intel SASUC8I
it's 150ish on newegg, this is a rebranded LSI SAS3081E-R (same chipset as the other 2 cards you mention) and it has a normal pci socket, can be flashed with LSI IT firmware.
I have 3 of these.

Or you can do what i did, and set up link aggregation or IPMP
It's REALLY easy to do Link aggregation in OpenSolaris
(disable nwam, plumb your links, then use dladm to set up your aggregation , then set up normal "static" ip stuff.)
I get amazing ZFS CIFS speeds
I'd send it back. I got 2 DOA with this drive....(it was a really big order though) and newegg was kind enough to next day air me 2 drives.
but before you do that, check the cable and the controller.
A bad cable or controller can EASILY cause the same issue
I just built a ZFS system with these drives, i wasn't aware of this utility.
Is it safe/possible to make changes to drives which are already in use or do you need to do this before yu do anything?
thanks
This is the main reason i switched to ZFS. I had a few raid5 issues......with hardware raid it can be much more difficult to recover.
Have you tried emailing the manufacturer of your raid card? sometimes they have suggestions.
I was wondering if anyone has used this, or owns one.
I've seen a few pics on newegg but i'd be interested in knowing how it stacks up against the norco 4220
It's looks REALLY nice.
If anyone owns this could we get some better pics of everything? especially the backpane and drive trays\...
I can tell you for sure the Intel SASUC8i cards work fine in OpenSolaris. These are rebranded LSI 3081E-R cards (even have LSI markings on the board)
I flashed mine with LSI IT firmware.
works very well in OpenSolairs
Just to let people know...i emailed LSI and this card will work in a slot which is ELECTRICALLY pci-e x4
It has to physcially be a pci-e x8 Which is what i need anyways. ( i have a slot which is physically a x8 slot but it is electrically a x4 slot)
I was wondering if these work in a pci-e x4 slot. I really only need 4 sas drives but these are the cheapest i can find. Most of the 4 port sas cards cost a lot more.
I need something which is supported in OpenSolaris.
I know this is normally a pci-e x8 card but since i'm only using half...
I'm looking at the chenbro sas expander ck13601 as an option to expand my current storage system. Right now i have a system with these specs:
SUPERMICRO MBD-X7SBE motherboard
Intel core2quad Q9550 CPU
8 gb ddr2 800 ECC memory
3 AOC-SAT2-MV8 sata controllers (2 on 133Mhz bus 1 on 100 Mhz...
Exactly.
When you are dealing with 10+ drives in large raid arrays it's not a matter of "if my drive will fail" it's a matter of "when my drive will fail"
Hot swap cases do 2 things to aid in this:
1:) The obvious. It's hot swap, so you can swap out the drive without shutting down the...
It's wonslUng not wonslong
and it has nothing to do with asians. It's just my handle. It's my handle everywhere...if you see someone named wonslung anywhere, it's likely me. For better or for worse, I have an unusual internet name.....so i'm sure if you google wonslung you'll see me asking...
I put 3 ssd's on the space inside the server. 2 for rpool (mirror) and 1 for L2ARC
Worksgreat. I can easily fit 3 more 2.5 drives in there. I'm considering building a norco casemod which used 2.5 inch hotswap bays and adding those in, removing the entire area where the cd tray and other...
