At this time I'm using their router and the PC I'm testing with is connected to it directly (it's on a table 3 feet away) via cable. I'll have to disable the firewall, AV and other software to see if that makes any difference. thanks for the suggestions.

Well, it ended up being two separate issues. I uninstalled several hinky programs and ran a full MBAM scan and that cleared up the muting issue, but it still didn't work. Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the webcam and after a restart, everything was working as it should. Thanks...
