So the motherboard is not detecting my cpu (opteron 170). I have 24 pin, fdd and 8pin power plugged-in and 1 stick of memory and still nothing. Is this usually a bad processor? The PSU is a OCZ powerstream and it shows the voltage is fine. Any ideas or should I buy a $100 cpu to test it?

My 9700 Pro lost a heatsink and I am going to redo all the heatsinks with quality thermal goo. How do I remove the adhesive that is already on there? If I shave it off I think I will make the surface uneven. Thanks
