PSA: Corsair Issues Recall for Recent SFX Power Supplies

Well, the sales on the Corsair website has been HUGE lately due to the shortages at Newegg and Amazon. They simply don't have the manpower to process and ship so many orders. I've been told the quantities ordered exceed typical Black Friday - Christmas sales.

PSU buzzing and Black Screen Reboots

Yeah. Been gone pretty much since Kyle changed my title to "Technical Marketing Manager at Corsair Memory" so even stuff I posted BEFORE I worked for Corsair said "Technical Marketing Manager at Corsair Memory". Make me look like a shill no matter who I worked for at the time.

PSU buzzing and Black Screen Reboots

Because it might not be the PSU. If a PSU is overloaded, detects a short, has a voltage drop, etc. it shuts off. It doesn't "make your game go to a black screen". That's why I asked for more information.

PSU buzzing and Black Screen Reboots

Define: Crash You said you get a black screen, but can you still exit to the desktop? Or does the whole PC need a reboot? Which HX? What label color? Is it the newer Platinum HX with the gray label or one of the older ones (Blue and white accents or the really old one with the sails logo...

Seasonic not so good any more?

np... Also, keep in mind that the quote in the OP is completely out of context. I was responding to someone that was making the claim that Seasonic was "the best" and with no data available stated that CWT, Flex, GW, etc. RMA's were much higher. And coil whine RMAs make things worse...

Seasonic not so good any more?

HX650 has never been made by CWT. It's always been Seasonic. Latest "Gold" version: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Corsair-HX650-Gold-Power-Supply-Review/1705/1 An even sprinkling of all of the above. Coil whine and DOA or death within the first year. But to your point, the...

    Corsair CX750 750W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Nope. That's Newegg's wacky pricing formula. The M is supposed to be more than the non-modular, but because of Newegg's algorithm of sell through versus MSRP, they priced the non-modular at a higher price than the modular. Internally, they're both the same. And FYI: I have not been a...

    Corsair HX1000i 1000W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Your statement makes it sound like Corsair just slapped a label on an existing CWT product. That's probably got about a half dozen Corsair engineers red in the face right about now as it's farthest from the truth. In actuality, Corsair engineers, in conjunction with CWT engineers, really did...

Corsair K95 RGB or Logitech Orion Spark

Fortunately, there are actually very few instances of dead LEDs with the Corsair keyboards. The problem is, Cherry can't make the switches fast enough for Corsair and they're perpetually out of stock. This makes it a horrible end user experience for those who do end up with dead LEDs and need...

    good, cheap 19v ac-dc adapter?

The barrel connector is the same used on HP laptops. Just like the days before PSU reviews, there are many adapters that cannot deliver all of their power continuously. Stick with a brand name like Acbel, FSP or Huntkey and you'll do fine. Get a no name and expect the worse. ;-) This one is...

    Corsair CX750M reliability.

Yep. All magnetics have harmonics... it's just a matter of whether or not those harmonics are audible to the human ear and/or there's enough varnish, caulk, etc. to mask the sound. That's your motherboard, not the PSU. Software readings in programs like HWMonitor all come from the monitoring...

Cooler Master GXII 650W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Wow. I don't get it. I generally like Enhance. Seriously. I'm a fan. They make some great stuff for SilverStone. And remember the BFG LX/MX (tooting my own horn here)? Group regulated? Sloppy soldering? And what's with swapping out the FDB fan for a sleeve bearing? It's almost like...

    Bios said my psu surged

No no no.... It's just stupid software. Asus boards always tell people their PSU has "surged". Disable that in the BIOS or ignore it.

    Very Interesting jonnyGURU thread!!

What UL, CB, CE, TÜV, Ecova, etc. when they certify a PSU is the label. Not the box. Not a manual Not marketing, but the label on the unit itself. The label is what they go by. The label is what a reviewer should go by.

    Very Interesting jonnyGURU thread!!

Exactly. We can get "decent" units from manufacturers all day long. The volume is in PSUs like this one because they meet a certain price point at retail where, as you put it, Joe Average might drop in to shop in a pinch.

The scoring shouldn't be the only page read in the review. Irritates the fuck out of me when someone reads the intro and the conclusion and nothing in between, but it happens all the time.

    Is it the PSU???

Which is it? Reboots or shuts down? If it reboots, I seriously doubt it's the PSU. More likely RAM or a problem with the motherboard. Any decent PSU will shut down COMPLETELY (no reboot) if there's a fault detected (drop in voltage, over load, etc.

2 blown PSU in 2 months

Unfortunately, a Kill-A-Watt doesn't have a fast enough sample rate to provide adequate +/- for voltage. But the reasoning behind the problem is sound. It sounds like dirty power.

    Horrible Coil Whine! Need advice

Make sure your PC is properly grounded. Use something like this tester from Home Depot: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Gardner-Bender-120-VAC-GFCI-Outlet-Tester-1-clam-5-clams-master-GFI-3501/202867890 The PC relies on the chassis for a ground, which in turn relies on the PSU for an earth...

OCZ Power Supply Division Sold to Firepower Technology

Yep. Problem is, people don't "expect" high end PSUs to be as expensive as they are. Also, people's standards for PSU performance is much higher than it used to be 5 years ago. The reviewers have been a lot tougher on the manufacturers than they used to be.

OCZ Power Supply Division Sold to Firepower Technology

All old school Topower built units from the early 00's. OCZ had several good units. Also, "Delaware Companies" are common because of the taxes and the fact that ownership of said company, if not publicly traded, does not need to be disclosed (which is why we don't know anything about who's...

    Single rail 1500w PSU suggestions

This. As stated in the article I wrote that was linked above... if the fact that the PSU was multiple +12V rail versus single +12V rail, the PSU would be shutting down. Freezing, artifacts, etc. have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with "how many" +12V rails you have.

    Corsair RM750 750W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Yes... but that also brings up a good point. Huntkey has one of the most advanced PSUs factories I've seen in China. And most of the work is done in house. PCB, SMT, making the cables, housings, etc. They even have all of the EMI and noise testing facilities in house. AND A PING PONG...

    Corsair warranty

Good question since you're not opening the unit or cutting the wires... I would say it wouldn't void your warranty. That said, by pulling the pins out of the connectors to sleeve them, you run the risk of putting the wires back together in the wrong order and cause a short.... so then I would...

    Corsair RM750 750W Power Supply Review @ [H]

FYI: Seasonic is also Chinese. And if something was a "knock off", that would mean someone was copying someone else's design, engineering, specs, etc. Chicony's been around a long time. I'd hardly call them a "Chinese knock off".

    Corsair RM750 750W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Well.. could go either way, right? If the OTP didn't trip and the PSU actually overheated to the point of being critical, that would truly be a "crap out". ;)
  31. jonnyGURU

    Corsair RM750 750W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Warm, but not 45°C, which is the temperature Paul tests at. The PSU is advertised as being rated at 40°C. Also, the PSU doesn't "crap out". The problem would be that the PSU would shut off before the fan turns on, which is a major issue, but is wouldn't be considered "crapping out".

Corsair Announces CS Series Modular PC Power Supplies

Why "WTF GREATWALL?!"? Review samples are floating around. I suspect in two to three weeks we should see some reviews pop up. Right now, our PSU review queue is backed up. Jeremy just finished up doing the RM Series this week while everyone else had their reviews published a month ago. :p

Corsair Announces CS Series Modular PC Power Supplies

It's just not that cost effective to make PSUs that are that low wattage. You essentially end up with a lower wattage for the same cost as the higher wattage unit. As for efficiency at <100W, Ecova is actually certifying PSUs with 10% efficiency as well since 4/2012. Also, a lot of reviewers...

be quiet! Anyone know about this PSU brand?

For the last few years, pretty much all desktop PSUs are made in China. The only exceptions are a couple companies that make server PSUs and medical PSUs. Some of those are made in Taiwan and there's one company in India. But, as far as be Quiet goes, they're based in Germany.

PSU bought the farm, looking for a new one. Seasonic 660w Platinum or Corsair AX850?

More than a couple of months ago. ;-) CX was never Seasonic. VX was discontinued years ago. TX was Seasonic two generations ago (then CWT, then Chicony). And only first generation HX was Seasonic. They're all CWT now (couple years).

I'm familiar with the problem and the cause. And you're correct. YOU have no idea how many are good vs. bad. But my analogy goes for almost anything made/sold on this planet. At any rate, Corsair's engineers have been on top of the problem lately, but I don't know if you'll see them...
