I have migrated hard drives and kept existing RAID sets from ARC-1220 to ARC-1880i before successfully. But I only tried that after Areca support confirmed that would work for those two controllers.
You should to contact Areca support ([email protected]) for answers regarding your RAID...
I recommend you try StableBit DrivePool which I have been using for years without problems.
When using DrivePool, you can copy files directly to the pooled drive or to individual member drives.
DrivePool creates a special directory with GUID name on each member drive for keeping track of...
If need to buy or build servers for production usage, I would choose Xeon based systems.
But these are my personal test/development servers so I'm not going to spend thousands of dollars to build Xeon based systems.
The only reason I suddenly need more RAM is because I need to setup a test...
It looks like it's inconclusive whether 32GB DDR3 will work with Core I7-860.
Since Intel's official site says 16GB is the max memory supported, I am inclined to believe Intel.
I think I will just have to purchase or build a system using 4th gen Core i7 which Intel says supports up to 32GB...
Those are the Intel official web pages I mentioned and I already know those pages said 860 and P55 supports up to 16GB.
What I would like to know if anyone has been able to 32GB DDR3 RAM in their Core i7-860 system.
Thanks.
I need to upgrade DDR3 RAM to 32GB on a test server using Core i7-860 on a P55 chipset motherboard (Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3P).
The official maximum memory size support listed on Intel and Gigabyte web site for Core i7-860 and P55 motherboard is 16GB. But I have heard rumors that Core i7-860 and...
Okay.. It's good to know that you are going to replace that drive soon. :)
From my experience, when a hard drive starts to make unusual clicking sound it probably will not last another six months of daily usage. If it's used in a 24/7 server, it will most likely fail within a couple months.
Are you still using that hard drive which you reported would drop out of an array on cold boot?
And now it's making clicking noises?
I thought you would have that drive replaced by now..
Ship-to-store, eh?
How do you know the UPS driver did not play soccer with your package while on lunch break before he arrived at your local store to gently drop off your package?
Or how do you know if your local TigerDirect staff did not play dodge ball the merchandise you want in the warehouse?
For very large media collection (e.x. Blu-Ray/DVD backups), traditional RAID may no longer be a good choice because when you want to expand your storage space you don't want to go through the process of backing up files, replacing all drives, create new RAID set and restoring files.
If you...
Basically StableBit DrivePool allows you to add bunch of NTFS formatted hard drives into one or more larger pool which can be mapped to available drive letters. The DrivePool dashboard program will show a list of NTFS formatted hard drives on your system and you can select specific hard drives...
I know for certain you can swap drives around in the same SAS expander chasis because i have done that before and the RAID controller recognized the existing RAID set without any problem. (I have emailed Areca support few years ago about this and they said Areca controllers store RAID...
Does the same drive go missing mostly when you cold boot your server or does it also occur when you warm boot
If it happens mostly when you cold boot your server, most likely that drive's motor has trouble spinning up its disks quickly or too slow to respond to the host system when powering up...
If you need real-time RAID which always updates parity data when data are changed, then you are better off using your existing Areca or other hardware RAID controllers. And if you already have Areca, don't even bother with unRaid.
If the data you want to protect consists of mostly media files...
Personally I would only use Hitachi, Toshiba and Seagate hard drives with hardware RAID controllers. (I have had terrible experience with several WD20EARS green drives before). I wouldn't even bother with WD's RAID edition drives since they are way to expensive.
If you are planning to use...
So you have two hard drives failed and you were able to re-activate one of them back as a raid set member?
The log you provided says your hard drive PHY#1 had time-out errors. I don't know what cause your time-out errors but I think it was most likely sector re-allocations because when...
I have been using my U3011 for over a month and I have not noticed any input lag in playing action games such as Super Street Figher 4 AE on my PC. Mouse cursor moves as fast as I move my mouse. No lag at all.
If you have noticeable input lag even when moving mouse cursor, the problem is...
Yeah. After playing with custom color adjustments for an hour yesterday and I got no where near sRGB color level, I agree that I should simply use the sRGB preset and be done with it.
Thanks.
So I have been using my new U3011 for almost a week. So far I am able to select a good color preset and set contrast and bright to my preference when using the monitor for my PC. Basically I picked the standard color and enabled EDID option in my Radeon HD's Catalyst Control Center. This...
My old HP L2335 monitor playback 1080i video without deinterlacing.
The result is not pretty because moving objects (even during slow motion) all show interlacing artifacts (a.k.a combing effects).
I don't know why you would want to see 1080i video without deinterlacing unless you have a CRT...
Okay. I received my new Dell U3011 (rev A03) this past Friday.
After connecting it to my DishNetwork VIP722 DVR, I confirm that U3011 does deinterlace 1080i video nicely. In fact, 1080i video playback on U3011 is slightly better than my old 32" Sharp Aquo TV which is connected to another...
Chris,
Thanks for the info.
My current monitor HP L2335 can also playback 1080i video but without de-interlacing. Its user manual also shows 1080i as an supported input just like the Dell web site. I am afraid to buy a U3011 but only to learn it does not de-interlace 1080i video.
I don't know if this question has been asked before but I am surprised that I cannot find any information on this topic in any U3011 reviews posted online.
Does anyone know if U3011 deinterlace 1080i?
And how well does it display 1080i video?
Thanks.
PiP on my HP L2335 works pretty well for me.
Yes, PiP window blocks part of my desktop but it's a very small space.
Also I can adjust its location using the monitor's OSD control.
Turning PiP window on and off requires just one press of the PiP button. (No need to even go into OSD...
I would get TV if there is space in my room to put one. Unfortunately my bedroom is a bit small (about 10ft by 10ft or even smaller) and also due to the location of the two windows, the door and one big closet, there is only one side of wall where I have enough space put a TV but that is where...
PBP only instead of PIP?
Face palm to myself. It looks like my research of U3011 was a fail.
PBP is of no use to me. I don't have a TV in my room so I have been using HP L2335 as my TV connecting to a Dish Network VIP722 DVR using both HDMI-to-DVI and components cable.. When I need to do...
I have been looking for a 30 inch LCD monitor that is suitable for gaming, has plenty of inputs and picture-in-picture function. After a little research, Dell U3011 looks like the best choice. (U3011 appears to be the only 30 inch monitor that has PIP function).
However, I'm afraid U3011...
I have a few questions about Hitachi's 2TB drives.
Newegg currently has two SKUs listed for Hitachi 2TB drives:

So you are looking for an "audio device" that has digital inputs, , 5.1 analog ouput, can decode DD/DTS and also does not require the use of any computer?
Hmm... Why don't you just buy an A/V receiver from a local Best Buy near you?
My thought exactly. I don't think the Realtek sound unit can mix analog line-in and output sound through SPDIF out. My 5 years old SBLive has no problem doing that so I don't know why this latest Reatek HD audio processor can not do the same thing. Too bad I gave my SBLive away already. Now...
I don't think application and "exclusive mode" has anything to do with the line-in issue.
Even without any desktop applications running, line-in can not be heard through SPDIF output.
Mixer problem? Driver problem? I don't know.
I will probably buy a sound card to end my suffering.
Sigh.. Let me describe my problem again in a different way.
When i want to hear sounds using analog speaker output, I do the following:
-Set "Speakers" as the default device in control panel.
There is NO issues. I can hear the device connected to line-in just fine.
When I want to hear...
Hi all.
I have recently built a new system and I noticed that I cannot hear anything plugged into line-in on the back of the motherboard if I use SPDIF out for sound output. However, I can hear line-in just fine when using analog speaker output.
The motherboard in question is a Gigabyte...
720x480 is the maximum resolution for NTSC video on DVD.
There are DVD players with HDMI connections that can upscale resolution to 720p or 1080i when connected to a HDTV set but you will never get HD quality out of DVD video.
Since you are using a 2407 WFP monitor, I assume your Windows...
Because pixels don't stretch.
If a 100x100 pixel square image is displayed on LCDs using 1024x768 (4:3) native resolution, the square will appear as a square. Similary, if the square image is displayed on LCDs using 1280x1024 (5:4) native resolution, the same square image will also appear as...
If you still can not get the video card to scale image correctly, the only thing I can suggest you to do is to try a different (older) version of video card driver.
My ATI X800 with 6.4 driver does not have problem displaying WS screens lower than 1920x1200. For examle, I can run my Windows...
