I gave away my old Dell R610 to some college students about 6 months ago so they could get into IT with something to play with.
I figured the itch was gone. But I picked up a Dell R730 w/ 128gb and 2x E5-2680V4 14core/28thread, has 4 x 960GB SSD's in it.
$1400 or so, seemed to be fairly...
Is there a set markdown for items before they go extinct on the site?
Like, if you see it at 50% its probably the first markdown, because the max markdown goes up to 70%?
Do they do markdowns on set days?
If you're in the market for some NAS or Enterprise SSD's, there's a few WD Red's in 2TB and
some WD Gold's in 2TB for about 50% of market prices floating on the site.
I picked up a monitor a few days ago for $25 (just a vga for servers) and that was a welcome addition, damn kids broke my...
Debating on what direction I want to go.
Considering 2 x HP Microserver Gen10+ units running ESXI, but it appears they are rather limited @ 64GB each.
Or, just getting my big boy pants on, and just grabbing a nice 1u unit with an Epyc 7302 or 7402 and 256GB and a
shit ton of SSD's in it...
Since I just started at a place thats a Fortinet shop, that 80E is a great way for me to learn on the fly without blowing shit up.
1/2 the price of Amazon for the hardware only, the fact you get a year of Fortiguard with it, for that, is stupid, its a better deal than the 50e.
Its for my gf's son, building a PC for him for Xmas, he's on a like 3rd gen Intel laptop I scavanged together for him.
All he does is play Roblox and surf Pornhub, so that might work.
Whatcha want for it?
If you're looking for some funds to upgrade your short term choice of a 3400G.
Let me know what you have, don't need cooler, have one off a 3700x I'll be using.
Appreciate the input on that. I kinda felt that way. I bought a board, and case for my gf's son in prep to upgrade, now I might just hold off till next generation and drop a 3600 in his system once the new chips go on sale.
I mean, I'm doing 150fps in CoDMW, and thats about all I play right...
I caught the start of the presentation, but had to skip out.
Only being a 1080 gamer, is there a reason for me to upgrade? CPU + GPU + Memory is gonna set me back $1200 or so. :-\
If you're wanting to buy cards to churn for coins. Radeon 5700 series are the best bang for the buck.
If you can find a 2070 Super close to their price, it would win on a 1:1 battle, but you can score a 5700 used for probably under $300 USD now.
Yeah thats at least triple the rate I pay, and in 24 hours I net about $2.40.
In other words, its not profitable for you at all, you're better buying and holding
So I have the following for sale.
4 x 4GB Corsair Vengeance 16GB total kit DDR4-2133 (see pics for labels) - $45 for all 4 SOLD to dbwillis, payment accepted, shipment pending, tracking # provided by Paypal
2 x 8GB Mushkin Silverline 16GB total kit DDR4-2133 $40 for both
1 x Ubiquiti USG...
I picked up a fleabay mini tower, dropped a 4 port NIC into it and went with Untangle, swapped out a USG Pro4, very much worth the upgrade. Total cost: $130 with Home Pro license of Untangle.
Within the first 15 minutes of setting it up, I noticed one of the kids was using Bittorrent and...
At this point, I'd have to say the CPU is damaged.
Doh, so the thing works in another board. Ok. This shits just weird.
Nuke it all from orbit, start over :D
If I couldn't see an obvious issue at this point. I'd rip everything out of the case, sit it on the table, and start going part by part
till I could recreate this problem. But I'm old school, and remember a time when you could short out boards with standoffs if you didn't
use them cute paper...
3700x with 32GB, 5700XT, Phantek case all strapped to the Asus x570-P (non pro). I got the 5700xt off Ebay / Newegg refurb, but it was brand new in box, even had the gigabyte security stickers still sealed. So. All in all, I dropped about $1400. If I woulda tested the 5700 further, I mighta...
System is together, did minor tweaking to get the memory inline at 3200 speeds, but otherwise, its cookin with gas.
I have the R5700 still and I might have saved it. I didn't see any scorched spots from the damage, so I dropped it into the system and it powered up.
The funny part was, I...
My board has 24 pin ATX, 4 pin and 8 pin aux connectors for CPU. My 3700x wouldn't boot on my x570 board till I plugged all of them in. It would light the LED and spin the fan for about 5 seconds, then just die out.
So, make sure all your cables are plugged in
There's a subreddit for making your own PC cables, I'll be damned if I can remember what it is, but you're gonna get a much better focused group of answers and
assistance on this one there imo.
Chili Cases was another aluminum case mfg. They made the mini-tower case with a single 5.25 that was 1/4" aluminum panels.
I dunno what I ever did with the one I polished to a mirror finish and then did in red, but I miss that little bastard. I probably took it apart and
tossed it in the trash...
Pretty much my direction at this point.
So far I have the case. Phanteks Enthoo TG series
And I snatched up a x570 Asus Prime-P for the board.
I wasnt looking for a super high end board and its color scheme fit my goal with that also.
I have a complete set of the Razer Stormstroopers items...
There really isn't anything outside of what I detailed there. The 32GB might be overkill, but its what I came from, so to stay within the range of what I worked with previously.
I've always been a build to the longevity. The system in my sig was 6 ish years old and while I was planning on...
So, I had a major fuckup. While cleaning up my PC room to prepare for future job improvements (working from home instead of at office)
I fucked up.
Knocked a cup over, cup went into the top of my case, fans at the top of the case, Radeon 5700 below it...well...the rest is history. It sprayed...
I have the i7 - 1050 version of this, it plays the games I wanna play flawlessly.
This will be a solid laptop, it runs hot tho so get a cooling pad under it. Once I did that, it can run full bore for 10-12 hours nonstop gaming without a hitch
Take it from someone with a vast amount of knowledge on this issue.
Its not easy and it won't be cheap. I sunk probably 35-50k dollars in design and work and still wasn't able to get a product to market.
Just because you think you can, doesn't mean you can. I was making pretty solid money...
