Outsourcing, layoffs, more outsourcing, depressed salaries.
But CEOs should be worried too.

I will never have the chance to test it with SLI 8800 configs. PCP&C claims that it will deliver 650 watts at peak load which should be plenty for non-RAIDed SLI setups.
$80 shipped.
Works like a champ. This is an ATX-sized power supply with the 24-pin connector.

I live in Palo Alto, CA. If you're within 30miles, we can meet to complete the transaction in person.
This patch is literally a single if-then clause in a low level of the operating system. $4000 is just too much - that's literally all it cost in time and effort for a qualified, well-versed Microsoft programmer in the Windows group to implement on any version of Windows.
PCI Express card, 256MB DDR3, 256-bit bus, dual DVI, VIVO, HDTV ready, part number is PV-T70F-UND7. This is the factory overclocked card (490Mhz engine, 1.3Ghz memory).

No, Apple is trying to be Microsoft. Sadly, they are beginning to succeed. We'll see if Apple can avoid the trappings of power which brought Microsoft down.
Not only is Paul Allen a key benefactor of cnet (which owns gamespot), but Paul Allen also purchased ZDTV from Ziff-Davis. When reading about Zune, xbox, Vista in the "popular" press, follow the money.
Gamespot is part of cnet which was founded by Paul Allen (of Microsoft fame). You do the math.
Microsoft's ties to the mass media run deep and, combined with a huge advertising budget, this is what you get.
I think the added capacity of Blu-ray is a huge advantage for PS3 game developers - assuming they take advantage of that extra disk space for additional levels, better textures, more cutscenes, etc.
With the xbox 360, there's pretty much a built-in limitation for how much storage space is...
Over the past 14-15 months, I have purchased 2 raptor drives, at least 12 sticks of DDR, DDR2 and DDR ECC memory, an Athlon 64 cpu, an Athlon X2 and a higher-end fan from Monarch. I have never experienced any problems with shipping or billing.
One of the DDR2 chips sent was defective and...
It's going to be a while before games perform better on Vista than XP. Older games will probably always perform better on XP than Vista as long as they are DX9-only.
In addition, it's going to be tough to get honest benchmarks about Vista vs. XP because Microsoft has wisely worded the Vista...
Ghosts and Goblins, Gradius, Mega Man series, Ikari Warriors, the 194x series, Raiden, etc. I miss the 2D scrollers. They should be redone for HD with awesome 3D sprites, throbbing backgrounds and updated sound.
There won't be any DX10 exclusive titles for a long, long time. Even Half Life 2 is compatible with DX7.
WinME wasn't that bad on a virgin installation, it just acquired winrot really quickly and became unstable as stuff was installed.
Battlefield 2 is probably my favorite game right now, but I too avoided Battlefield 2142 because of this ad issue. Advertising is getting out of control. 2142 is a PAID product and I paid NOT to have ads. How long before the movie studios start distibuting DVDs with 5-minute breaks for ads...
Well, that's cool. If benchmarks demonstrate that Vista runs DX9 games faster than XP on the same hardware I'll consider an upgrade earlier to Ultimate or Pro early on, but I doubt it will happen. I've tweaked my installation of XP to the point where there aren't a lot of background processes...
FarCry. It's like three games in one: the outdoor levels with human opponents were my favorite, the trigens brought in a factor of fear (I don't like to be scared playing videogames), and the final levels were impossible. I have high hopes for Crysis - at least 1/3 of the levels.;)
I like the...
Vista runs fine, it's just slower than XP. That's not going to change - Windows NT4 is faster than XP on the same hardware, too. Vista does not run DX9 games faster or "better" than XP. It's just a matter of there being a compelling reason for me to run Vista - someday, there will be one...
Most of the B&Ws don't have DVD drives. Borrow an external DVD drive or use another Mac (with a DVD drive) to install OS X on a firewire drive and copy the DVD to it as an image. Then, start up the B&W from the external firewire drive, open the DVD image and install Tiger from there.
I don't think I'll be running Vista any time soon. It's a bit slower than XP, the interface is ugly IMO (when I do run Vista, it will be using the classic windows mode), and it will be at least a year before there are games that look genuinely better in DX10. By then, maybe I will have a new...
I don't see anything more inaccurate about that "fact sheet" than is usual when companies make cost claims about their competitors.
The premium PS3 has a hard drive, does 1080p gaming, includes a high-capacity media drive (which, contrary to reports in the article linked to this thread is NOT...
I've been tempted to get a PSP ever since the Ghouls and Ghosts sequel arrived for it. That and Gradius. But yeah, I don't see myself shelling out $300 for two games and using it on a portable device I wouldn't want to carry around either.
I could be wrong about the San Diego part. Revision E ring a bell? It's definitely a 3800+, purchased ~Sept 2005. PM me if you're interested, I'll send you the serial number and stepping.
FS - AMD Athlon 64 3800+ San Diego comes with unused stock cooler and packaging from Athlon X2 4800
$70 shipped OBO. Will sell it for $50 cash if you can pick it up from me in Palo Alto, CA.
I was going to buy Bf2142 because I enjoyed BFV and played hundreds of hours of BF2 since the second or third day it was available. I too experienced some quirks with BF2 (crashing on launch, unexpected quits and freezes etc) but the good outweighed the bad and the experience was mostly...
